‘The Hangover 3’ beats ‘Fast & Furious 6’ at UK box office

The Hangover Part III has topped the box office on its first weekend on release.

The comedy franchise’s final instalment pulled in £5.9 million to beat Fast & Furious 6 and secure first place in the UK chart.

The Hangover swan song’s opening haul is significantly down from the £10 million earnings of its predecessor in 2011. The third film’s total, however, is more than the £3.1 million debut gross for The Hangover in 2009.

Elsewhere in this week’s chart, 3D animated movie Epic is a new entry at number three and horror The Moth Diaries bows at number seven.

Oz the Great and Powerful experienced a huge surge in ticket sales to re-enter the chart at number ten.

Resident Evil Revelations tops game charts

Resident Evil: Revelations is the brand new all-format number one.

Capcom’s latest survival horror sequel, which first appeared on the 3DS in 2012, is the company’s second all-format number one of 2013, after DmC: Devil May Cry.

It knocks Metro: Last Light down to third, between FIFA 13 in second and Dead Island: Riptide in fourth.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is this week’s second highest new entry at five, while Activision’s Fast and the Furious: Showdown debuts at 14.

Daft Punk score first UK No.1 album

Daft Punk have scored their first UK number one album with Random Access Memories.

The French duo’s fourth studio album is the fastest-selling LP of 2013 so far, shifting over 165,000 copies in its first week on sale.

Rod Stewart drops one place to two with Time, selling a further 52,000 copies.

The National earn their second top five album in a row, with Trouble Will Find Me landing at three.

Texas return to the album chart after nearly eight years with The Conversation at four.

30 Seconds to Mars score their highest-charting album in the UK so far at five with Lust Love Faith + Dreams.

Demi Lovato has her highest-charting UK album to date, with her fourth studio LP Demi entering at ten.

Jamie Cullum debuts at 20 with his sixth studio album Momentum. Australian band Airbourne land at 22 with Black Dog Barking.

Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart enter at 27 with their collaborative effort Seesaw.

Emeli Sandé also leaves the UK Top 10 for the first time after 66 weeks with her huge debut LP Our Version of Events, falling from eight to 15.

‘Fast & Furious 6’ beats ‘Great Gatsby’ at UK box office

Fast & Furious 6 has topped the box office on its first weekend on release.

Vin Diesel’s blockbuster sequel earned more than £8.7 million to race past The Great Gatsby and secure top spot at UK cinemas.

Fast 6‘s three-day opening haul is a record for studio Universal (beating Les Misérables) and the largest ever debut for a Fast & Furious film in the UK. The movie will open in US cinemas this Friday (May 24).

Diesel revealed plans for Fast & Furious 7 last week, saying that the sequel will take place in LA, Tokyo and the Middle East.

The Great Gatsby also opened impressively in the UK with ticket sales of more than £4 million, while Star Trek Into Darkness – last week’s chart-topper – fell to third spot with £3.6 million.

Metro: Last Light tops all-format games chart

Metro: Last Light has ended Dead Island: Riptide‘s three-week all-format chart reign.

Despite achieving fewer week-one sales than its predecessor, Metro: Last Light knocks Dead Island down to second, while FIFA 13 climbs to third.

Just outside of the top three, Nintendo 3DS exclusive Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon makes its debut in fourth, ahead of Black Ops 2, Tomb Raider and an increasingly popular Walking Dead.

At the tail-end of the chart, Skylanders Giants re-enters at 19, between Grand Theft Auto 4 and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Rod Stewart scores UK number one album

Rod Stewart has scored his first UK number one album since 1979 with Time.

The LP is Stewart’s first collection of self-penned material in over two decades, and is the first to top the chart since 1979’s Greatest Hits Volume 1. His last studio album to hit number one was 1976’s A Night on the Town.

He told The Official Charts Company: “Well, knock me down with a feather. Just goes to show there’s still plenty of songs left in the old violin. Thank you!”

Gabrielle Aplin lands at two with her debut LP English Rain, finishing 20,000 copies behind Stewart.

Vampire Weekend match the success of their previous albums by entering at three with Modern Vampires of the City.

Caro Emerald drops three from last week’s summit to four with The Shocking Miss Emerald, followed by Rudimental’s Home at five.

ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog achieves the highest-charting solo album of her career, with A landing at six.

Primal Scream enter at 12 with their tenth album More Light, while The Fall’s 30th studio album Re-Mit is a new entry at 30.

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ topples ‘Iron Man 3’

Star Trek Into Darkness has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

JJ Abrams’ sci-fi blockbuster pulled in £8.4 million to secure first place ahead of Marvel’s Iron Man 3. Into Darkness‘s opening haul is up from the £5.9 million debut for the 2009 Star Trek reboot.

Iron Man 3 still has the biggest UK opening weekend of 2013, with its £13.7 million bow outpacing Into Darkness and musical Les Misérables (£8.1 million).

Elsewhere, the only other new release to make it into the top 10 is Matthew McConaughey drama Mud at number seven.

Bollywood zombie movie Go Goa Gone and The Reluctant Fundamentalist land just outside at numbers 14 and 15 respectively.

Dead Island: Riptide continues gaming chart reign

Dead Island: Riptide is the all-format number one for the third week running.

Only the second game in 2013 to achieve three weeks at the top, Dead Island retains its position, despite a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sales surge.

Elsewhere, the retail release of Telltale’s The Walking Dead series makes its debut at nine, above Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and fellow new release Persona 4: Arena.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen drops eight places down to 13, above God of War: Ascension and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

Caro Emerald wins first UK No.1 album

Caro Emerald has won her first UK number one with The Shocking Miss Emerald.

Following her 2010 top five album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, the singer beat last week’s chart-topper Home by Rudimental by less than 3,000 copies.

Emerald told The Official Charts Company: “I’m humbled by this exciting news. It’s such a huge recognition for the hard work we’ve put in to this record. I want to give a big thank you to all the fans and everybody who has supported us over the last few years. Thank you!”

Hugh Laurie scores his second UK top three album, as Didn’t It Rain lands at number three.

Alison Moyet earns her first top five solo album in 26 years, with the minutes arriving at five, her highest-charting LP since 1987’s Raindancing.

Lady Antebellum secure a Top 10 album at seven with Golden, while Noah and the Whale are new at 13 with Heart of Nowhere.

Savages’ debut album Silence Yourself is a new entry at 19, followed by London duo Public Service Broadcasting at 21 with Inform, Educate, Entertain.

Armin van Buuren follows his Top 10 singles success with new album Intense at 37, followed by Thea Gilmore’s Regardless at 39.

‘Iron Man 3′ holds off ’21 & Over’

Iron Man 3 has topped the UK box office for the second weekend running.

The Robert Downey Jr-led superhero blockbuster earned £6.3 million to hold off competition from new college comedy 21 & Over.

Olympus Has Fallen, last week’s chart runner-up, slipped down to number three with £672,755. Family film All Stars debuts at four, while the Tom Cruise sci-fi Oblivion completes the top five.

Elsewhere, the chart also sees new entries from Pedro Almodóvar’s I’m So Excited at number seven and Dead Man Down at eight.
