Everest tops UK box office for a second week

Everest has climbed to the top of the UK box office for a second weekend running.

The disaster drama, based on true events and starring Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin, took £2m to bring its running total to £6.8m.

Tom Hardy’s Legend remains in second place, ahead of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Miss You Already starring Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette is the highest new entry at number four, while Pixar’s Inside Out rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, Solace lands at number six, and Pixels re-enters at number nine.

FIFA 16 easily beats Skylander to top gaming chart

FIFA 16 has soared to the top of the all-format gaming chart, despite a 7% drop in week-one sales.

EA’s latest football release sold 7% fewer copies than FIFA 15, and experienced a 4% drop in revenue.

Approximately 45% of all copies were purchased on PS4, compared to 36% on Xbox One and a combined 19% on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Destiny: The Taken King drops down to second, Forza Motorsport 6 falls to third, while Skylanders Superchargers enters the chart at four.

Metal Gear 5, PES 2016, Mad Max, GTA 5, Call of Duty: Ghosts and LEGO Jurassic World also appear in the top ten.

Elsewhere, Blood Bowl 2 enters the chart at 15, while Rugby World Cup 2015 makes an appearance at 18.

Justin Bieber remains top of the UK singles chart

Justin Bieber’s comeback track ‘What Do You Mean?’ has topped the UK singles chart for the third non-consecutive week.

The Canadian popstar’s first-ever UK number one single is also the week’s most-streamed track, with over 3.2 million listens overall.

Coming in once again at number two this week is Sigala’s ‘Easy Love’, which briefly unseated Bieber before falling back to second.

R City and Adam Levine’s ‘Locked Away’ leaps 13 places up to number 3, while Calvin Harris and Disciples’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ slips one spot to 4.

Finishing out the top five this week is ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ by The Weeknd for its eighth week in the top ten.

Other major debuts include Ellie Goulding’s confessional ‘On My Mind’ at 7, Naughty Boy, Beyoncé and Arrow Benjamin’s ‘Runnin’ (Lose It All)’ at 11 and Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ at 17.

One Direction’s ‘Infinity’ gives the group their 16th top 40 single, coming in at 36 this week.

Everest climbs to summit of UK box office

Everest has climbed to the summit of the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

The mountain drama, about a 1996 expedition devastated by severe weather conditions, ended Tom Hardy’s brief reign atop the charts with Legend.

Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin lead the cast of the film, which took in £3.1 million to claim first place at UK cinemas.

Legend slips down to second place, while Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is at number three on its second weekend on release.

M Night Shyamalan’s The Visit and Inside Out round out the top five.

Elsewhere, the chart sees new entries from Robert Redford’s A Walk in the Woods, the Battle of Britain at 75 live concert broadcast and children’s comedy Bill.

Destiny: The Taken King beats Forza 6 and PES 2016

Destiny: The Taken King has topped the all-format gaming chart ahead of Forza Motorsport 6 and PES 2016.

Selling 57% on PS4, compared to 34% on Xbox One, 7% on Xbox 360 and 2% on PS3, it’s Activision’s first number one since last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

However, despite the chart success, launch sales of The Taken King represent only 16% of the original’s debut.

It’s followed by the aforementioned Forza 6 and PES 2016 in second and third, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain at four and Mad Max at five.

Super Mario Maker, GTA 5, Disney Infinity 3.0, Rugby League Live 3 and LEGO Jurassic World also appear in the top 10.

Call of Duty: Ghosts makes a surprise appearance at 14, followed by NHL 16 at 15.

Justin Bieber reclaims No.1 spot

Justin Bieber has reclaimed the number one spot with ‘What Do You Mean?’

The singer has forced Sigala’s ‘Easy Love’ back down to two, after overtaking the Jackson 5-sampling track by over 15,000 chart sales.

‘What Do You Mean?’ is the most streamed track of the week after racking up over 3.62 million plays.

Elsewhere Calvin Harris and Disciples hop a place to number three with ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, which boasts 2.1 million listens this week.

Jess Glynne’s ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ slithers a place to number four while The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ rounds off the Top 5.

R. City and Adam Levine shoot 23 places to number 16 with ‘Locked Away’ while Stormzy celebrates his first Top 40 hit with ‘Wickedskengman4’ in at 18.

Finally, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s ‘Downtown’ climbs ten places to 21 as Nero enter at 27 with ‘Two Minds’.

Kray twins film tops UK box-office

Tom Hardy’s Legend has shot straight to the top of the UK box office.

The Kray twins biopic fought off competition from Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails to take the box office in its first weekend.

Legend is now the UK’s biggest September release and has also achieved the biggest ever opening for a British-made film with an 18 certificate.

Meanwhile, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails is at two with £2.8m, while horror film The Visit in at 3 with £1m.

Straight Outta Compton is at four with £630,325, Inside Out is at five with £608,638 and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation is at six with £302,316.

Pixels is at seven with £272,539 and No Escape is at eight with £254,383.

Finally, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Secret Cinema 2015) is at nine and Irrational Man rounds out the top ten with 197,188.

Metal Gear Solid 5 charts ahead of Super Mario Maker

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has held on to the all-format top spot, despite competition from Super Mario Maker.

Sales for The Phantom Pain dropped by a whopping 78% during its second week, which is above the average 67% drop experienced by the year’s other biggest-sellers.

Super Mario Maker had to settle for second, above Mad Max in third and Disney Infinity 3.0 in fourth.

Until Dawn, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Grand Theft Auto 5 follow at five, six and seven, while LEGO Jurassic World and a Minecraft double header close out the top ten.

Elsewhere, Elder Scrolls Online re-enters at 11, while Skylanders Trap Team charts at 18.

Sigala scores first UK number one

Sigala has scored his first UK number one with ‘Easy Love’.

The single, which samples the Jackson 5’s ‘ABC’, climbed an enormous 71 places in its second week to top the UK singles charts, knocking Justin Bieber off the top spot.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Sigala said: “This is so amazing. I had no idea this would ever be a number 1 record.

“I wrote this song in my bedroom on a Sunday evening after a couple of beers. I had no idea it would go to the top of the charts!”

Elsewhere, Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’ is at two, while Jess Glynne’s ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ is at three.

Calvin Harris & Disciples are at 4 with ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, while The Weeknd rounds out the top five with ‘Can’t Feel My Face’.

Meanwhile, Ella Henderson’s Kygo collaboration ‘Here for You’ enters at 18, while R City’s track with Adam Levine, ‘Locked Away’, is new at 39.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain tops the gaming chart

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has infiltrated the top of the all-format gaming chart.

It’s the third biggest launch of the year so far – behind Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3 – and the biggest Metal Gear game in terms of week-one sales, beating Guns of Liberty by nearly 37%.

The Phantom Pain, which made 72% of sales on PS4, compared to 22% on Xbox One, is also the first Metal Gear game to top the chart since 2008’s Guns of the Patriots.

Fellow new entry Mad Max has to settle for second, ahead of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which drops to third.

Elsewhere, Until Dawn drops two places to four, above Disney Infinity 3.0, GTA 5 and LEGO Jurassic World.

A Minecraft double-header and Batman: Arkham Knight complete the top ten.
