Ariana Grande’s One Last Time reaches new Official Chart peak following the Manchester attack

Friday, May 26th, 2017

Ariana Grande’s One Last Time has re-entered the Top 40 on this week’s Official Singles Chart as the UK remembers the victims of the attack at her Manchester concert.

The song launches back in at Number 11 today, sending it to a new chart peak.

One Last Time was a single from Ariana’s second album My Everything and originally peaked at Number 24 in June 2015.

Ariana’s latest album Dangerous Woman also climbs back up the Official Albums Chart, rising 32 places to Number 30.

Six dates from Ariana’s Dangerous Woman tour have been cancelled following the attack, including her two dates at London’s O2 Arena on May 25 and 26.

A statement from her team said time is needed to “assess the situation and pay our proper respects to those lost.” It is hoped she will resume the tour in early June.

Despite some strong competition from Liam Payne, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s Despacito remix ft. Justin Bieber has held on to claim a third week at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

Meanwhile, DJ Khaled’s I’m The One ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne holds at 2 for a third week, and former One Direction star Liam Payne enters at Number 3 with his debut single Strip That Down ft. Quavo.

Charlie Puth earns his third UK Top 10 with his latest single Attention, which lifts from 12 to 9. Jonas Blue’s Mama ft. William Singe leaps ten places to 12, and two songs crack the Top 20: Pretty Girl by rising star Maggie Lindemann jumps up four spots to 17, and Cheat Codes’ No Promises ft. Demi Lovato climbs seven places to Number 18.

Further down, Selena Gomez lands her tenth UK Top 40 hit with Bad Liar (35), and two new Katy Perry tracks close out this week’s Top 40: Bon Appetit rebounds eight places to 37, and Swish Swish ft. Nicki Minaj debuts at 40.

Injustice 2 takes first ahead of Farpoint

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

It should come as no major surprise that Netherrealm’s Injustice 2 took home first place in this week’s UK retail charts. Great pre-launch hype, paired with strong reviews, and a popular license, made short work of the competition.

Interestingly, Farpoint, the PSVR exclusive shooter captured second place, registering the best chart position for a VR only game as it beat PlayStation VR Worlds (7th spot during the week PSVR launched). Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia faired a little worse as the new release on 3DS came in fifth place, while Focus Home Interactive’s The Surge only managed the tenth spot in its first week. Last week’s number one, Prey, fell to fourth as GTA V climbed above it.

Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber’s Despacito claims a second week at singles top spot

Friday, May 19th, 2017

Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber will be celebrating again tonight as Despacito logs a second week as the UK’s Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

Despacito, which translates to ‘Slowly’, won’t be budged from Number 1 quickly, and is the first Number 1 of the last five to hold onto the top spot for more than one week. The Spanglish track enjoyed its strongest week yet to hold the top spot, downloaded 42,000 times while accumulating 7.9 million streams.

Justin Bieber also holds firms at Number 2 with I’m The One, his collaboration with DJ Khaled, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne, meaning it’ll be the 11th time in Bieber’s career that he’s held both the Number 1 and 2 position at the same time, tying with Ed Sheeran.

The Top 5 is completed by Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson’s Symphony at 3, Shawn Mendes’ There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back at 4 (a new peak for the song), and Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You at Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

J Hus enters the Official Singles Chart Top 10 for the first time; Did You See has climbed the chart for an eighth straight week and hits a new peak of Number 9. Miley Cyrus’ comeback track Malibu debuts at 11, ahead of Charlie Puth’s Attention, up four to Number 12.

Disciples’ On My Mind rises eight spots to make its first appearance in the Top 20 at Number 15, while up and coming US star Maggie Lindemann jumps a huge 37 ranks to 21 with her breakthrough hit Pretty Girl.

Jonas Blue’s latest single Mama ft. William Singe is also on the rise, lifting seven placings to Number 22. There are also leaps for Kyle and Lil Yachty’s iSpy, which propels seven to Number 33, and Paramore’s Hard Times, a re-entry into the Top 40 that matches its previous peak position of Number 34.

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s Despacito remix with Justin Bieber is this week’s UK Number 1 single

Friday, May 12th, 2017

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee secure their first UK Number 1 single today with a little help from Justin Bieber.

Luis Fonsi told OfficialCharts.com: “It’s amazing, I’m honoured. It’s my first Number 1 in the UK so it’s definitely a special one. I released the original song earlier this year and it’s slowly found its way to the top of the charts around the world. I’m so happy this song has connected with people even if they don’t necessarily understand the lyrics – it’s great to see people enjoying the vibe and feel of it.

“Thank you to Daddy Yankee who is a great artist and a good friend, and now Justin Bieber for jumping on the song simply because he loved the record. Let me tell you, Latino girls are loving Bieber’s Spanish right now!”

Justin also features on I’m The One, last week’s Number 1 single which drops one place to the runner-up slot (2). The DJ Khaled track also includes Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne. This marks the second time that Justin has knocked himself from Number 1. In November 2015, Love Yourself toppled Sorry from the helm of the Official Singles Chart.

Shawn Mendes rises two spots with There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back to Number 5 this week, which becomes his second UK Top 5 hit in the process. French Montana and Swae Lee’s Unforgettable also makes strides, hopping four rungs to Number 8.

There are more climbs for J Hus’ Did You See which catapults five to Number 12, and Charlie Puth’s Attention, the highest climber within the Top 40 that has risen 15 positions to Number 16.

Finally, there are three new entries that impact the Top 40: Niall Horan’s Slow Hands massages the Number 25 position, Jonas Blue’s collab with William Singe named Mama debuts at Number 29, and Kyle & Lil Yachty’s iSpy bounces one place to Number 40.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe beats out Prey

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Last week, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe broke a curse that has seen Nintendo going without a number one game in the UK retail charts for six years, and would you believe, in spite of facing fierce competition from Bethesda’s Prey it managed to stay in number one for the second week running. Apparently it was a very close race, presumably Mario Kart 8 Deluxe won it on the finish line with a well-placed shell. Last week’s new entries and top five finishers, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 and Little Nightmares fell from 2nd to 13th and 4th to 12th, respectively. Ghost Recon: Wildlands also fell out of the top ten for the first time since its release.

Further down the charts, Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy came in at number 31 in the all formats chart. Persona 5 re-entered the chart at number 35, proving that new stock was in place.

All Formats:

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo

DJ Khaled secures his first Official UK Number 1 single

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Congratulations to DJ Khaled, who lands straight in at Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart with I’m The One.

The track, which features Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne, debuts at Number 1 with 5.1 million streams and 23,000 downloads sold this week.

I’m The One is Khaled’s first UK chart-topper; his previous chart peak was at 25 with last summer’s For Free ft. Drake. The track also gives guests Lil Wayne, Chance The Rapper and Quavo (from hip hop group Migos) their first UK Number 1, while Justin earns his fifth.

Miami-based Khaled – a DJ, producer and Snapchat extraordinaire – is the first international artist to top the Official Singles Chart in seventh months. Since last September, the top spot has been occupied exclusively by UK acts.

Meanwhile, I’m The One pushes last week’s chart-topper, Clean Bandit’s Symphony ft. Zara Larsson, down to 2 after one week at the top.

New entries and high climbers

Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi vaults 18 places to Number 4 with Despacito (which translates to ‘Slowly’) following the release of a new mix featuring Justin Bieber. The original version has been a hit across the world since its release back in January, topping the charts in over 20 countries.

Hip-hop star French Montana makes a big climb with Unforgettable ft. Swae Lee, up 12 spots to 12 and Cheat Codes’ No Promises ft. Demi Lovato jumps 13 to a new peak at 26.

Further down, three songs make their Top 40 debut this week: Charlie Puth’s Attention zooms from 50 to 31, Kygo’s new Ellie Goulding collaboration First Time is new at 34, and Katy Perry’s brand new track Bon Appetite ft. Migos bows at 40.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe races to number one in the gaming charts

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017

It’s been a while since Nintendo had a UK retail number one game, but the re-issued Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch succeeded where so many other Nintendo releases have failed and score the company’s first chart-topper since Pokémon White in week 9 of 2011. Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that this marks the first number for Nintendo’s tireless plumber since Mario Kart Wii in week 34 of 2008. In other positive Nintendo news, renewed stock of Switch consoles (no doubt to coincide with the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe release), saw Breath of the Wild climb back up to number 5.

There was a lot of new release towards the top of the charts as CI Games’ Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 came in second and Bandai Namco’s creepy platformer Little Nightmares scored a surprise fourth spot. Down in 14th was the retail release of Outlast Trinity and the brilliant puzzle game Puyo Puyo Tetris came in at 18.

All Formats:

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo (new)
2. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 / CI Games (new)
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
4. Little Nightmares / Bandai Namco (new)
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
6. Lego Worlds / Warner Bros.
7. Ghost Recon: Wildlands / Ubisoft
8. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare / Activision
9. FIFA 17 / EA Sports
10. Horizon: Zero Dawn / Sony

Individual Formats (units):

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Switch (new)
2. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 / PS4 (new)
3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Switch
4. Horizon: Zero Dawn / PS4
5. Little Nightmares / PS4 (new)
6. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4
