Battlefield V struggles at launch

Wednesday, November 28th, 2018

The UK retail charts were late this week, presumably, cause there was a lot to tally up after Black weekend. In fact, a report on GamesIndustry.biz indicate that around 300,000 consoles were sold with PlayStation 4 leading the pack ahead of Xbox One and Switch in what was an even race. The massive amount of punters in stores also made for a bit of a switch up at the top of the charts where FIFA 19 took over from Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The big new release this week, Battlefield V, struggled to live up to the sales of previous entries in the series and was down 63% compared to Battlefield 1 in its first week. While an argument could be made that some of that could be compensated by digital sales, it’s still a massive drop.

All Formats:
1. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 / Activision
3. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
4. Battlefield V / EA Games
5. Forza Horizon 4 / Microsoft
6. Spider-Man / Sony
7. Fallout 76 / Bethesda
8. Pokémon Let’s Go / Nintendo
9. Spyro Reignited Trilogy / Activision
10. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe

Gaming charts: Spyro stands tall above fierce competition

Monday, November 19th, 2018

Last week was a pretty hectic week for the world of video games, as there were plenty of new releases to enjoy, and now GamesIndustry.biz has provided us with the UK charts, showing that Spyro’s Reignited Trilogy is the winner of the battle for supremacy, sitting at the number one spot.

Pokémon Let’s Go also launched last week, with Pikachu in at four and Eevee in at six, but stock issues in the UK meant that less units came in from Nintendo’s European warehouse than anticipated. Also, download sales aren’t included in these figures, and if you bundle both Pokémon Let’s Go games together, they’d be top of the charts.

With regards to Spyro, 75% of sales came on PS4, and some might be surprised to see Fallout 76 as high as it is (number three) since there has been a lot of criticism leveled against it. Sales are indeed down 82.4% when compared to Fallout 4, but it actually generated the most revenue in UK retail last week, since Spyro had a lower price.

For the full top 10 list check down below:

1. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy / Activision
2. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
3. Fallout 76 / Bethesda
4. Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu / Nintendo
5. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
6. Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee / Nintendo
7, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 / Activision
8. Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle / Epic Games
9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
10. Hitman 2 / IO Interactive

Ariana Grande debuts at Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart with her break-up anthem thank u, next.

The single – released last Saturday night – has amassed an impressive 73,000 combined sales in six days, including 6.7 million streams. It finishes over 26,000 combined sales ahead of its closest competitor, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s Shallow (2).

The song notably premiered just moments before Grande’s ex-fiancé, Pete Davidson, was due to appear on Saturday Night Live; previews had shown him referring to their break-up in sketches on the programme.

Grande is only the fourth single to debut at Number 1 this year following Drake’s Nice For What and God’s Plan, and Dave & Fredo’s Funky Friday. The last female artist to do it was Taylor Swift with Look What You Made Me Do in August 2017.
