Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello make it five weeks at Number 1

Friday, August 16th, 2019

Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello’s reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart with Senorita extends to a fifth total week, leading previous chart-topper Ed Sheeran & Khalid’s Beautiful People (2) by 6,200 combined sales.

Three singles reach the Top 5 for the first time: 3 Nights by Dominic Fike climbs three places to 3, just ahead of Manchester rapper Aitch at 4 with Taste (Make It Shake), climbing four slots.

With the most digital downloads of the week, Kygo & Whitney Houston climb four to Number 5 with Higher Love, Kygo’s highest ever charting track. It’s Whitney’s first Top 5 hit since 2009’s Million Dollar Bill, bringing her total to fourteen. See Whitney’s full Official Charts history here.

Crash Team Racing returns to the top of the UK gaming charts

Monday, August 12th, 2019

With all due respect to all the passionate and talented developers out there, we didn’t see any highly-anticipated or major releases hit retailers last week. That’s why Activision’s remake of Crash Team Racing put its foot on the gas again.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled made its way back to the top of the UK sales chart after placing third in last week’s update. It’s not the only game that gained some extra traction due to last week’s lack of new AAA-releases either, as Super Mario Maker 2 jumped from fourth to second, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shows that kart games are all the rage these days by driving from seventh to third, while Red Dead Redemption 2 decided it was sad to see Grand Theft Auto V as the only Rockstar game amongst the top ten so it placed eighth after ending up in fifteenth last time.

It’s not all good news for games on the list though, as last week’s number one, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, hit the fire alarm at school and took a nosedive down to seventh place. That leaves us with this top ten looking like this:

1. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled / Activision
2. Super Mario Maker 2 / Nintendo
3. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe / Nintendo
4. FIFA 19 / EA
5. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
6. F1 2019 / Codemasters
7. Fire Emblem: Three Houses / Nintendo
8. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Take-Two
9. Minecraft / Microsoft
10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate / Nintendo

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Senorita scores fourth week at Number 1

Friday, August 9th, 2019

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Senorita claims a fourth stint at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, while Ariana Grande and Social House score the week’s highest new entry with Boyfriend.

Senorita notched up 59,000 chart sales to keep its place at the summit, made up of 6.6 million streams and 7,000 downloads. Social House worked on Ariana’s recent chart-toppers 7 Rings and Thank U, Next.

Meanwhile, Ariana and Social House’s Boyfriend is new at Number 4, earning Ariana her 14th Top 10 and the pop duo their first UK chart entry.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Dominic Fike’s 3 Nights lifts two places to a new peak at Number 6, and Manchester rapper Aitch scores a Top 10 debut with his new track Taste (Make It Shake) – his first chart entry as a headliner following his feature on Young T and Bugsey’s Top 20 hit Strike A Pose. One place behind are Kygo and Whitney Houston; Higher Love hops one spot to Number 9.

Further down, Krept & Konan, Headie One and K-Trap’s I Spy rebounds 15 places to Number 22 following the release of a remix featuring Bugzy Malone, RV, SL, Abra Cadabra, Morrison and Snap Capone. British DJ/producer Joel Corry cracks the Top 20 with Sorry, up two to Number 19.

Finally, two songs make their Top 40 debut this week: Jax Jones & Bebe Rexha’s Harder climbs nine places to Number 36, earning Jax his ninth and Bebe her seventh Top 40 single, and Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy  claims his first UK Top 40 with Outnumbered, up two to 39.

Fire Emblem has another week at the top spot

Monday, August 5th, 2019

Intelligent Systems’ Fire Emblem: Three Houses was released towards the end of July, and it already seems to have made a mark, as it hit the top of the UK physical game charts on its first week, and now GamesIndustry.biz reports that it has achieved a second week at the top spot.

The Nintendo Switch title even had a 60% drop in sales, which reflects the growing trend for the whole games market, with physical games down 15% compared to this time last year. It did almost double the sales of 2013’s Fire Emblem: Awakening though, so it’s certainly been a return to form for the franchise, as reflected in our review.

FIFA 19 was just behind Three Houses too, with only 66 unit sales between them. Wolfenstein: Youngblood falls to eight with a 61% decline in sales, however, while Madden NFL 20 is a new entry at number five.

For the full top 10 look down below. Are you surprised to see Three Houses get a second week at number one?

1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses / Nintendo
2. FIFA 19 / EA
3. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled / Activision
4. Super Mario Maker 2 / Nintendo
5. Madden NFL 20 / EA
6. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
8. Wolfenstein: Youngblood / Bethesda
9. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate / Nintendo
10. Minecraft / Microsoft
