God of War stands firm at the top of the gaming charts

Sony’s God of War had an incredibly strong debut in the UK charts, as well as elsewhere for that matter, and now Kratos has taken the top spot again in this week’s charts, having dipped only 35% in terms of sales week-on-week, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

Yakuza 6, however, plummeted from number three to 39, having an 85% decline in sales, while Far Cry 5 has been much more consistent, remaining just behind God of War in second place. Replacing Yakuza at number three, however, is the new entry of Nintendo Labo: Variety Pack, with the Robot pack falling to number 20.

One Kiss holds Ariana Grande off Number 1

Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s One Kiss holds on to Number 1 for a second week on the Official Singles Chart after a bumper week of streams.

The track was played 8.7 million times across all streaming services this week, the highest one-week tally since last June, when Luis Fonsi’s Despacito logged 8.8 million streams in its fifth week at the top.

Landing straight in at Number 2 this week is Ariana Grande’s No Tears Left To Cry, the lead single from her upcoming fourth album. The track was streamed 7.3 million times this week and earns the US star her sixth UK Top 10 single.

New entries and high climbers

Elsewhere in this week’s Top 10, production duo Banx & Ranx along with Ella Eyre and Yxng Bane surge 11 places to Number 7 with Answerphone, Anne-Marie’s new single 2002 – co-written by Ed Sheeran – is new at 8, and Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey’s The Middle rebounds three places to Number 9.

Khalid & Normani’s Love Lies edges closer to the Top 10, up four places to 12, and three tracks from J Cole’s new album KOD land inside the Top 40: KOD at 17, ATM at 28 and Photograph at 30. The entries lift the rapper’s tally of Top 40s from one to four.

Further down, David Guetta, Martin Garrix and Brooks’ Like I Do zooms eight places to 32, Liam Payne & J Balvin’s Familiar is new at 34, and rapper Nines rebounds six spots to 40 with I See You Shining.

Two Avicii songs finish inside this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40 following his tragic death last week. Million selling chart-topper Wake Me Up returns at 26, while his breakthrough hit Levels re-enters at 36. 2013 hit Hey Brother finishes just outside the Top 40 at 43.

Gaming charts: God of War is the biggest launch of the series

This week’s GfK Chart-Track top ten sees God of War taking the top spot at UK retail. The PlayStation 4 exclusive is the fastest selling title in the franchise’s history (retail only), with the game shifting 35% more physical units in its first week than the previous best, God of War III in 2010. It has already sold better than Sony’s other big exclusive of the year, Shadow of the Colossus.

Far Cry 5 has thus been knocked down into second place. Another new release takes third position, namely Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, which is also the biggest launch for a Yakuza game. You can see the full top ten below:

Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa score biggest Number 1 of 2018

Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa have scored the biggest Number 1 tally of 2018 to secure this week’s Official Singles Chart crown.

One Kiss, which climbs 3 to 1 this week, amassing a combined total of over 70,000 units (comprising 7.1 million streams and 22,000 downloads) to claim the top spot. It earns Calvin Harris his ninth UK Number 1, while Dua Lipa nets her second chart-topper, following 2017 smash hit New Rules.

Calvin Harris now joins the likes of ABBA, Spice Girls and Rihanna to become only the 11th act in chart history to notch up nine or more chart-topping singles.

Drake’s Nice For What – the most-streamed song of the week with 7.9 million plays – drops one place to Number 2, while Lil Dicky’s former Number 1 Freaky Friday with Chris Brown slips to Number 3.

New entries and high climbers

Sigala and Paloma Faith reach a new peak of Number 7 this week with Lullaby, up two, while Banx & Ranx net their first UK Top 20 hit; Answerphone, the Canadian duo’s collaboration with Ella Eyre and Yxng Bane lifts seven to Number 18.

Zayn secures this week’s highest new entry with Let Me at Number 20, his 7th Top 40 hit, while Cardi B’s I Like It featuring Bad Bunny & J Balvin rockets 17 positions to Number 23. Sean Paul, David Guetta and Becky G are also big climbers, rising 14 to Number 25 with Mad Love.

Nicki Minaj’s two comeback singles Chun-Li and Barbie Tingz both impact the Top 40 at Numbers 26 and 31 respectively, with EO sandwiched in the middle; his breakthrough single German is a new entry at Number 30.

Finally, there are two new entries for David Guetta this week, taking his all-time Top 40 tally to 36 singles. Flames with Sia scales 19 placings to Number 37, and Like I Do, his collab with Martin Garrix and Brooks, hikes 25 to this week’s Number 40.

Gaming charts: Far Cry 5 is still top despite slow week for sales

This week the GfK Chart-Track top ten is a rather static affair, this following a slow week for UK retailers which saw no new games debut in this week’s top ten. Far Cry 5 is once again the most popular cult in town, and that’s despite a 45% drop when compared to last week. FIFA 18 stays second in the league, again despite a 7% drop in sales. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe zoomed into this week’s top three, once again despite a drop in sales (in this case, it was a 17% slump). According to Games Industry, a game would have had to have sold just 3,500 copies to make it into this week’s top ten, which you can see in full below.

Drake’s Nice For What makes last-minute grab for Number 1

Drake has made a last-minute grab to claim this week’s Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

The Canadian rapper’s latest track Nice For What – surprised released last Saturday (April 7) – has been scaling the Top 40 all week and narrowly edges out last week’s chart-topper, Lil Dicky and Chris Brown’s Freaky Friday (2), to bag the top spot.

Nice For What is Drake’s fourth Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart and second this year, following What’s My Name (with Rihanna, 2010), One Dance (2016) and God’s Plan (2018).

Drake also holds off strong competition from Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, whose new single One Kiss lands at Number 3, earning Calvin his 24th Top 10 and Dua her fifth.

It was a close finish at the top, with just 2,096 combined sales separating this week’s Top 3.

New entries and high climbers

UK rapper B Young reaches a new peak with his breakthrough hit Jumanji, up one place to 13, while this year’s winner of The Voice UK, Ruti, debuts at 14 with her winner’s single, a cover of The Cranberries’ 1993 hit Dreams. It’s the second-highest placing for a Voice winner’s single on the Official Chart, behind Stevie McCrorie’s Lost Stars, which reached Number 6 in 2015.

Elsewhere, Banx & Ranx, Ella Eyre and Yxng Bane’s Answerphone zooms 24 spots to Number 25, Cardi B’s Be Careful vaults 45 spots to Number 27, and Nines debuts at 37 with I See You Shining – the North London rapper’s first Top 40 hit.

Further down, Kylie Minogue scores her 51st Top 40 hit with Dancing at 38, Sean Paul’s Mad Love ft. David Guetta and Becky G lifts five places to enter the Top 40 at 39, and Cardi B makes a second entry with I Like It ft. Bad Bunny and J Balvin at 40.

Far Cry 5 is still top of the UK gaming charts

Far Cry 5 is once again the best-selling game in the UK at retailers up and down the country, and it held on to top spot despite a 69% drop in week-on-week sales. In fact, the top ten is largely the same as it was this time last week, with FIFA 18 and Sea of Thieves retaining their podium finishes. The most significant change is Forza Motorsport 7’s rise into the top five, its resurgence at retail driven by promotional price cuts. Here’s the GfK Chart-Track top ten in full:

Lil Dicky and Chris Brown’s Freaky Friday claims Number 1

Congratulations to Lil Dicky, who scores his first Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart today with Freaky Friday (April 6).

The comic rapper’s track, which features Chris Brown, climbs from 5 to 1, overtaking mid-week leader This Is Me by Keala Settle/Greatest Showman Cast to take the top spot, with 4.6 million streams logged this week.

Freaky Friday first entered at Number 16 three weeks ago and has zoomed up the Official Singles Chart thanks in part to its viral music video, which sees the pair trading lives like the coming of age cult classic film of the same name.

Lil Dicky is the first comedian to top the Official Singles Chart in almost nine years; the last was Peter Kay and his animated All Star Band for Children In Need in 2009. Meanwhile, Chris Brown claims his second UK Number 1 single, after Turn Up The Music reached the top spot in 2012.

Freaky Friday pushes last week’s Number 1, Rudimental’s These Days, down to Number 2 after one week at the top, and This Is Me rebounds five places to Number 3.

New entries and high climbers

This week’s highest new entry goes to The Weeknd who, following the surprise release of his new album My Dear Melancholy, sees three of its tracks land inside the Top 40: Call Out My Name at Number 7, Try Me at 17 and Wasted Times at 18.

Further down, Yxng Bane’s Vroom lifts four places to 36, and two songs return to the Top 40: Dua Lipa’s New Rules 37, and Jason Derulo’s Tip Toes ft. French Montana at 40.

Far Cry 5 tops the UK gaming charts

Far Cry 5 has marched straight to the top of the UK charts after the strongest launch in the history of the series (in the UK, at least). Taking advantage of a relatively meager lineup of new titles during the springtime, Ubisoft’s game has enjoyed a strong critical and commercial release, so much so that the fifth core entry in the series is the best-selling launch in ‘week 13’ ever, displacing previous record holder Bioshock: Infinite. Not bad going.

Further down the charts we see a little movement, with Xbox (and Windows 10 PC) exclusive Sea of Thieves sinking down to third, while A Way Out is stuck in the top ten, albeit it down to seventh thanks to a 61% drop in sales. Detective Pikachu enjoyed a much stronger second week according to Games Industry, although not strong enough for a top ten finish (it’s up to 15th from 23rd).

In general, the top ten this week sees strong sales for a number of big IPs that were discounted in time for the Easter holidays:
