Rod Stewart scores UK number one album

Rod Stewart has scored his first UK number one album since 1979 with Time.

The LP is Stewart’s first collection of self-penned material in over two decades, and is the first to top the chart since 1979’s Greatest Hits Volume 1. His last studio album to hit number one was 1976’s A Night on the Town.

He told The Official Charts Company: “Well, knock me down with a feather. Just goes to show there’s still plenty of songs left in the old violin. Thank you!”

Gabrielle Aplin lands at two with her debut LP English Rain, finishing 20,000 copies behind Stewart.

Vampire Weekend match the success of their previous albums by entering at three with Modern Vampires of the City.

Caro Emerald drops three from last week’s summit to four with The Shocking Miss Emerald, followed by Rudimental’s Home at five.

ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog achieves the highest-charting solo album of her career, with A landing at six.

Primal Scream enter at 12 with their tenth album More Light, while The Fall’s 30th studio album Re-Mit is a new entry at 30.
