The Lego Movie builds on success at UK box office

The Lego Movie has topped the UK box office for the second consecutive weekend.

Warner Bros’ 3D animated adventure took home £5.9 million to hold off competition from Mr Peabody & Sherman to retain first place.

The half-term holidays resulted in a bumper weekend for animated movies, with Tinker Bell and The Pirate Fairy moving up into third spot and Frozen re-entering the chart at number ten.

Disney’s Oscar-nominated musical has now earned £38.5 million after three months on release in the UK.

Elsewhere in the chart, George Clooney’s Monuments Men fell down to number four and RoboCop completes the top five.

LEGO Movie Video Game retains all-format lead

The LEGO Movie Video Game has topped the all-format weekly chart for a second week running.

Enjoying a 7% increase in sales, The LEGO Movie Video Game charts ahead of FIFA 14 and Call of Duty: Ghosts in second and third.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is this week’s highest new entry at nine, one place ahead of Rayman Legends, which climbs 23 places after launching on Xbox One and PS4.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII drops out of the top ten after just one week, while Rambo: The Video Game narrowly misses out on the top 20, charting at 21.

Sam Smith wins first solo UK number one

Sam Smith has scored his first solo UK number one single with ‘Money on My Mind’.

‘Money on My Mind’ becomes the fastest-selling debut single from a Brits Critics’ Choice winner, as well as the first debut single from a Critic’s Choice’ winner to go straight to number one.

Smith’s track ends Clean Bandit’s four-week stint at the top of the charts after selling 108,000 copies in its first seven days on sale.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com about the success of ‘Money on My Mind’, Smith said: “It feels unbelievable, man! It’s completely overwhelming and I don’t actually know what to do with myself! It feels amazing.”

It is Smith’s second number one in the UK following the success of Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’, on which he featured last year.

“When La La La went to Number 1, I wrote quite a lot of that song and it was kind of just as much mine as it was Naughty Boy’s, but having my own song at Number 1 is just absolutely incredible,” he added.

Pharrell Williams is at number two with ‘Happy’ following his show-closing performance of the the song at the Brit Awards earlier this week.

Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne are down to number three with ‘Rather Be’, while Christina Aguilera wins her 24th hit on the UK Top 40 with her collaboration on A Great Big World’s ‘Say Something’.

Zedd and Paramore’s Hayley Williams complete this week’s top five with ‘Stay The Night’.

Katy Perry is at six with ‘Dark Horse’ after her Egyptian-themed performance of the track at the Brits, while David Guetta and Skylar Grey are at seven with ‘Shot Me Down’.

Pitbull and Ke$ha’s ‘Timber’ and Katy B’s ‘Crying For No Reason’ both spend another week in the Top 10, at eight and nine respectively.

DJ Fresh, Jay Fay and Ms Dynamite complete this week’s top ten with ‘Dibby Dibby Sound’.

Tegan and Sara make their UK Top 40 debut with ‘Everything Is Awesome’ from The Lego Movie, which is this week’s number 17.

Bastille and Rudimental’s Brit Awards performance of ‘Pompeii’ and ‘Waiting All Night’ is a new entry at number 21 after just three days on sale.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé climbs 26 places to number 23 with ‘XO’ following her performance at the ceremony.

Best British Female winner Ellie Goulding has three songs in the Top 40 this week. ‘How Long Will I Love You’ and ‘Goodness Gracious’ are at 25 and 26 respectively, while ‘Burn’ re-enters the chart at number 35.

The Lego Movie beats Monuments Men at UK box office

The Lego Movie has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

Warner Bros animated adventure, based on the Danish-produced toy line, posted the highest box office debut of 2014 so far to see off competition from George Clooney’s The Monuments Men.

The Lego Movie‘s £8 million opening haul easily outpaces that of The Wolf of Wall Street, which earned £4.6 million in January.

RoboCop slips down to number three, while last week’s number one movie Mr Peabody & Sherman is at number four. The Wolf of Wall Street rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, new releases Tinker Bell and The Pirate Fairy, Cuban Fury and Endless Love debuts at numbers six, seven and eight respectively.

The LEGO Movie Videogame tops all-formats chart

The LEGO Movie Videogame has debuted at the top of the all-format chart.

The new multi-platform release sold 15,000 more copies than a price-promoted Call of Duty: Ghosts in second position.

New entry Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was in third, followed by last week’s number one FIFA 14.

Elsewhere, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Grand Theft Auto 5 saw sales boosts due to price promotions.

Meanwhile, one eighth of all top 40 chart games are LEGO branded, with LEGO Batman 2 in 19th and LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Lord of the Rings outside the top 20.

Clean Bandit score fourth week at UK No.1

Clean Bandit have scored a fourth week at UK number one with their single ‘Rather Be’.

The song, which features vocals from Jess Glynne, held on to the top slot despite strong competition.

Although ‘Stay The Night’ by Zedd and Hayley Williams was in at Number 1 on the midweek charts, Clean Bandit managed to overtake them, selling 8,000 more copies.

Elsewhere, Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ falls one place to Number 3, while David Guetta and Skylar Grey enter at Number 4 with ‘Shot Me Down’ – the second highest-charting new entry of the week.

Katy B’s song ‘Crying For No Reason’ also rises two places, making it into the Top Five, as her second longplayer Little Red tops the Official UK Album Chart.

Meanwhile, Californian producer Le Youth and American rapper and model Dominique Young Unique have gained their first UK Top 20 hit. ‘Dance With Me’, which features a sample of TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’, makes it into the standings at number 11.

Another artist making his chart debut this week is Vine star Dapper Laughs, who enters at Number 15 with ‘Proper Moist’.

Mr Peabody & Sherman beats RoboCop at UK box office

Mr Peabody & Sherman has beaten RoboCop to win the UK box office over the weekend.

The kids’ animated movie earned £3.9 million to edge out the ’80s remake and secure first place on its debut weekend on release.

The Wolf of Wall Street‘s three-week run at the top of the chart ended with the Martin Scorsese film dropping to third place.

Dallas Buyers Club, the AIDS drama that has won Oscar nominations for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, is a new entry at number four. 12 Years a Slave completes the top five and has now earned more than £15 million from UK cinemas alone.

Elsewhere, the chart sees the Met Opera’s live broadcast of Rusalka debuting at number ten.

FIFA 14 tops all-format chart for 10th week

FIFA 14 has reclaimed its place at the top of the all-format chart.

EA’s football sim, which charts ahead of Call of Duty: Ghosts in second, is only the 11th game to top the all-format gaming chart for a combined total of 10 weeks.

Fable Anniversary is this week’s only new entry in third, charting above Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition in fourth and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in fifth.

Following last week’s Super Bowl, Madden NFL 25 climbs 13 places to re-enter the chart at 14, above NBA 2K14 and WWE 2K14.

Bombay Bicycle Club win first UK number one album

Bombay Bicycle Club have topped the UK Album Chart for the first time with So Long, See You Tomorrow.

The London-based band’s fourth full-length album topped this week’s countdown after outselling Avicii’s True by 6,000 copies.

So Long, See You Tomorrow becomes their third album to reach the top ten, following 2010’s Flaws and 2011’s A Different Kind Of Fix, which peaked at eight and six respectively.

Ellie Goulding’s chart-topping album Halcyon slips one place to number three, while London Grammar are up three places to number four with their debut album If You Wait.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s self-titled fifth studio album completes this week’s top five.

Within Temptation have claimed their highest charting album to date in the UK with Hydra, which debuts at number six.

“This is our highest chart entry in the UK so far,” frontwoman Sharon den Adel told OfficialCharts.com. “The reactions are overwhelming. We just want to thank our fans for continuing to champion us so strongly!

“We really can’t wait to come over and play for everyone in April, and when we play Wembley Arena on that tour, it’ll also be our biggest UK show yet too!”

Maximo Park are a new entry at number seven with Too Much Information. It becomes the Newcastle-based band’s third top ten album to date.

Further down the chart, Tina Turner’s Love Songs retrospective is a new entry at number 32, while Andre Rieu & The Johann Strauss Orchestra’s Love Letters enters at 35.

The Wolf of Wall Street holds firm at UK box office

The Wolf of Wall Street has topped the UK box office for the third weekend running.

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s fifth collaboration earned £2.3 million to hold off competition from 12 Years a Slave and Zac Efron’s new release That Awkward Moment at the chart summit.

The Wolf of Wall Street has now grossed nearly £15 million, making it Scorsese’s most successful film in the UK ahead of Gangs of New York and The Departed.

I, Frankenstein, Aaron Eckhart’s critically-panned modern reworking of Mary Shelley’s classic story, landed at number four with £811,365 in box office takings.

Frozen, which will be re-released in a new sing-along version next month, is still performing strongly at number five with £36 million earned in total from UK cinemas.

Elsewhere, Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor entered the chart at number six with £751,564.
