Fifty Shades dominates UK box office for a second week

Fifty Shades of Grey has topped the UK box office for a second consecutive week.

The big-screen adaptation of EL James’s best-selling erotic novel pulled in nearly £4.6 million to stay ahead of Big Hero 6.

Fifty Shades, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, has now grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office. It is the number one movie in the US.

Shaun the Sheep Movie and Kingsman: The Secret Service remain in third and fourth spots respectively.

Kevin Hart romantic comedy The Wedding Ringer enters the chart at number five, with Michael Bay’s Project Almanac at number six.

The Order 1886 tops the all-format gaming chart

The Order 1886 tops this week’s all-format gaming chart.

Ready at Dawn’s cover-based shooter is the first Sony exclusive to top the chart since The Last of Us Remastered last August.

It is followed by Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in second, while Evolve drops from first to third.

Far Cry 4, GTA 5 and FIFA 15 follow at four, five and six, while Minecraft for Xbox and PlayStation chart at seven and nine.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask falls six places to eight, and Destiny rounds off this week’s top-ten at ten.

Elsewhere, Total War: Attila narrowly misses out on a top-20 spot at 21, while Dead or Alive 5: Last Round debuts at 27.

‘Love Me Like You Do’ spends third week as No.1 single

Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ remains the UK’s number one single.

This is the third week at the top for the Fifty Shades of Grey track, which also broke a worldwide streaming record earlier this week.

In addition, the single had over 2.58 million listens in the UK during the last week, beating previous record holder Mark Ronson with ‘Uptown Funk’ (2.56 million).

Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’ claims the second spot, while ‘Uptown Funk’ by Ronson and Bruno Mars takes number three.

‘Earned It’ by The Weeknd climbs to number four, while ‘FourFiveSeconds’ by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney remains at number five.

LuvBug claim their second top 20 single with ‘Revive (Say Something)’ at number 17, while Taylor Swift’s ‘Style’ debuts at 36.

Florence + The Machine’s ‘What Kind of Man’ climbs 20 places to number 37, while David Guetta and Emeli Sandé’s ‘What I Did for Love’ re-enters the chart at number 24.

‘What I Did for Love’ featured in Friday’s (February 20) EastEnders live closing scene, which saw the track’s popularity boosted on iTunes.

Fifty Shades of Grey whips UK box office into a frenzy

Fifty Shades of Grey has shattered box office records in the UK.

The big-screen adaptation of EL James’s best-selling erotic novel earned £13.5 million to take home top spot in the UK ahead of Big Hero 6 and the Shaun the Sheep Movie.

Fifty Shades is the UK and Ireland’s biggest ever 18 certificate and non-franchise/sequel opening, as well as the largest February and Valentine’s Day debut. The film also has the biggest opening weekend bow of 2015 so far.

Sam Taylor-Johnson’s movie, which stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, has so far grossed more than $260 million at the worldwide box office and is the number one movie in the US.

Elsewhere in the week’s UK chart, the only other new release to make a dent in the top ten is Peppa Pig: The Golden Boots. The family film earned £687,417 on its debut weekend on release.

Evolve tops the all-format gaming chart

Evolve has made its debut at the top of the all-format weekly chart.

2K’s team-based shooter sold nearly 400 more copies on Xbox One than PS4. Only 3% of its boxed sales were made on PC.

It is followed in second by The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, which is the biggest-selling single format game of the week.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare drops to third, while Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate charts at four.

Monster Hunter 4‘s week one sales are up by 95% on its predecessor. It charts above heavyweights such as GTA 5 in fifth and FIFA 15 in sixth.

Far Cry 4, Minecraft: Xbox Edition, Assassin’s Creed Unity and Destiny make up the remainder of the top ten.

Ellie Goulding remains top of UK singles chart

Ellie Goulding remains at the top of the UK singles chart for the second week running.

‘Love Me Like You Do’, taken from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, racked up chart sales of 118,000 and 2.25 million audio streams to remain in the top spot.

Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’ claims number two, while ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars takes third place.

‘Uptown Funk’ also becomes one of the biggest-selling UK singles of all time, after reaching one million sales.

“I can’t believe it, it’s insane.” Ronson said. “It’s definitely an amazing milestone to be in this club with all these massive superstars.”

DJ Fresh and Ella Eyre’s ‘Gravity’ debuts in the chart at number four, as ‘FourFiveSeconds’ by Rihanna, Paul McCartney and Kanye West takes number five.

Chris Brown and Tyga’s ‘Ayo’ enters at number six, and ‘Doing It’ by Charli XCX and Rita Ora debuts at number eight.

The Weeknd climbs eight places to number ten with ‘Earned It’, while Ne-Yo’s ‘Coming With You’ takes 14.

Dutch producer Bakermat enters the chart at number 22 with ‘Teach Me’, as Imagine Dragons land their sixth UK top 40 single with ‘I Bet My Life’ at number 27.

Big Hero 6 tops UK box office for second week

Big Hero 6 has topped the UK box office for the second consecutive weekend.

The Disney animation, inspired by characters appearing in Marvel Comics, took its running total in the UK to £7.4 million after two weeks on release.

In second place is Kingsman: The Secret Service with a strong showing of just over £2 million, with Shaun the Sheep The Movie charting close behind at number three.

New release Jupiter Ascending is at number four ahead of American Sniper.

Elsewhere, the chart also sees new entries for Oscar-nominated Civil Rights drama Selma at number six and controversial comedy The Interview. The latter’s belated UK debut saw it net just £283,811 to enter at number ten.

Advanced Warfare equals FIFA 15’s chart record

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has retained its place at the top of the all-format sales chart.

Activision’s shooter celebrates its eighth week at the top of the chart, bringing it level with FIFA 15.

It is once again followed by GTA 5 in second and the aforementioned FIFA 15 in third.

After a retailer price promotion on PS4, Assassin’s Creed Unity sales increase by 25%, boosting its chart position from eight to four.

It is followed by a Minecraft double-header at five and six, Destiny at seven and Call of Duty: Ghosts at eight.

Elsewhere, Forza Horizon 2 re-enters at 19, sandwiched between Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Ellie Goulding takes No.1 single spot from Mark Ronson

Ellie Goulding has scored the UK’s fastest-selling single of 2015 with ‘Love Me Like You Do’.

The Fifty Shades of Grey track earned combined sales of more than 172,000, giving Goulding her second UK number one single after 2013’s ‘Burn’.

‘Love Me Like You Do’ ends the seven-week reign of Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’, which moves into second place.

Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’ takes number three, while ‘FourFiveSeconds’ by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney moves up to number four.

Meghan Trainor’s ‘Lips Are Movin’ completes the top five selling tracks of the week.

DJ Mike Mago and Dragonette debut at number eight with ‘Outlines’, while The Weeknd’s Fifty Shades of Grey track ‘Earned It’ climbs 15 places to 18.

John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ is at 24, and Kodaline enter the chart at 39 with ‘Honest’.

Big Hero 6 narrowly beats Kingsman at the UK box office

Big Hero 6 has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

Disney’s latest animation earned £4,293,286 to take the top spot ahead of Colin Firth’s spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service. The victory was a narrow one, with Kingsman trailing behind with a £4,241,292 opening.

American Sniper, last week’s number one movie, slips down to number three, with The Theory of Everything and Taken 3 rounding out the top five.

Elsewhere, the chart sees new entries from Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and the Met Opera’s screening of Les Contes D’Hoffmann.
