‘FIFA 14’ returns to top of games chart

FIFA 14 has returned to the all-format weekly chart thanks to the launch of the Xbox One.

Bundled with certain Day One editions of Microsoft’s new games console, the EA Sports football simulation is the highest-selling Xbox One game at launch.

With next-gen versions launching earlier this month, Call of Duty: Ghosts drops to second, above Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4, both of which benefit from the release of Xbox One in third and fourth.

Forza Motorsport 5 is the highest-selling Xbox One exclusive at five, above Dead Rising 3 at seven and Ryse: Son of Rome at ten.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds makes its debut at nine, while PlayStation Vita exclusive Tearaway fails to make the Top 20, charting at 26.

Robbie Williams’ ‘Swings Both Ways’ is UK’s 1000th number one album

Robbie Williams has won the UK’s 1000th number one album with his new LP Swings Both Ways.

The singer sold almost 109,000 copies of his latest swing record during its first week on sale.

Williams has scored the landmark number one 57-and-a-half years after Frank Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers became the UK’s first ever number one album.

Meanwhile, Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 remains in second spot for another week, while Jake Bugg’s second studio album Shangri La is a new entry at number three.

Celine Dion falls one place from three to four with her latest album Loved Me Back To Life. The record is Dion’s highest-charting LP since 2002’s A New Day Has Come.

Elvis Presley retrospective The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs holds at number five and JLS’s Goodbye – The Greatest Hits enters the chart at number six.

Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP drops eight places from number one to nine on this week’s countdown, while Little Mix’s Salute falls four places to eight.

Michael Bublé’s Christmas LP rises 23 places to number 14 as we draw closer to the festive period.

The other new entries in this week’s chart are choirmaster Gareth Malone’s Voices at number 23 and Gabrielle’s Now And Always – 20 Years of Dreaming at 38.

‘Gravity’ retains UK box office top spot

Gravity has topped the UK box office for the second consecutive weekend.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney’s space-set thriller earned £4.8 million to hold off competition from Thor: The Dark World for the second consecutive weekend.

Philomena continued its impressive box office run, retaining its position at number three with £1 million in ticket sales. The Steve Coogan and Judi Dench drama has so far grossed more than £7 million in the UK.

New releases The Counsellor and The Butler debut at numbers four and five respectively, while Bollywood movie Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela landed at ten with £348,574 from its 85 locations nationwide.

Elsewhere, both Don Jon and Dom Hemingway landed outside the top ten at 11 and 12.

‘Call of Duty’ charts above LEGO Marvel

Call of Duty: Ghosts has retained its place at the top of the all-format games chart.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, which is second only to LEGO Indiana Jones in terms of week-one series sales, is bettered by Call of Duty: Ghosts, despite weekly sales of Activision’s shooter dropping by 76%.

Elsewhere, FIFA 14 and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag swap places at three and four, while Battlefield 4 drops to fifth.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask makes a reappearance at 20, above new releases such as Ratchet & Clank Nexus and XCOM: Enemy Within at 21 and 25.

Lady Gaga earns third UK No.1 album with ‘ARTPOP’

Lady Gaga has secured her third UK number one album with ARTPOP.

The ‘Applause’ singer knocked Eminem off the top spot, with his album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 slipping to second place.

Meanwhile, Celine Dion – whose new single debuted at 14 in the singles chart – reaches number three with album Loved Me Back To Life, making it her highest-charting LP since 2002’s A New Day Has Come.

Little Mix’s Salute comes in at number four, while compilation album The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs rounds out the top five.

There are seven other new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart. The Killers’ best of collection Direct Hits makes it to number six, while Sir Cliff Richard’s The Fabulous Rock ‘N’ Roll Songbook is in at seven.

The presence of both Elvis and Richard marks the first time in 36 years that they have been in the same Top 10 album chart.

‘Gravity’ tops UK box office with stratospheric opening weekend

Gravity has topped the UK box office following its opening weekend.

Alfonso Cuarón’s space-set drama, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts on a deep space mission that goes badly awry, opened with £6.2 million.

In addition, 89% of Gravity‘s takings were from 3D, the biggest 3D share of any 2013 blockbuster.

“The techniques in Gravity are groundbreaking and were created by world-renowned craftspeople many of whom are based here in the UK,” said Josh Berger, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros UK and Ireland

“We are thrilled that audiences are flocking to see the film in 3D and IMAX where the cinematic experience can be fully appreciated.”

Thor: The Dark World fell to second place after debuting in the number one spot last week, earning $2.9 million.

Meanwhile, Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan’s Philomena climbed up the charts to number three with a strong second week earning of £1.4 million.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has third biggest launch of year after GTA 5, FIFA 14

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the brand new all-format number one.

Activision’s first-person shooter enjoys the third biggest launch of the year, behind Grand Theft Auto 5 and FIFA 14.

Battlefield 4 remains second, selling 6,000 more copies than Assassin’s Creed 4, which drops to third.

Elsewhere, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy makes its debut at 13, charting above fellow 3DS titles Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

Eminem lands seventh UK No.1 album

Eminem has landed his seventh UK number one album with The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

The rapper becomes the first American to score seven consecutive number one albums in the UK, equalling the feat achieved by The Beatles. Led Zeppelin and ABBA hold the overall record with eight number ones.

Selling over 143,000 copies, it is the third-fastest selling studio album of 2013, behind Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys.

James Arthur enters at two with his self-titled debut album, followed by Tinie Tempah’s second LP Demonstration at three.

Andre Rieu and Johann Strauss Orchestra’s Music of the Night is a new entry at four, while The Overtones enter at five with Saturday Night at the Movies.

Elvis Presley compilation The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs lands at seven, to tie in with the ITV show of the same name.

The Wanted achieve their third Top 10 album at ten with Word of Mouth.

Avril Lavigne’s self-titled fifth album is new at 14, followed by husband Chad Kroeger’s band Nickelback with their Best Of at 15.

Bob Dylan’s Very Best Of compilation lands at 16. Midlake’s latest LP Antiphon sneaks in at 39.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ hammers competition at UK box office

Thor: The Dark World has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The Marvel sequel, starring Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, earned £8.6 million to easily beat surge past last week’s chart topper Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and secure first place.

The Dark World‘s total easily surpasses that of its superhero predecessor, which £5.45 million when it opened in April 2011.

Captain Phillips slips down a place to number three, while Judi Dench and Steve Coogan’s Philomena is a new entry at number four.

Dreamworks’s animated snail-racer Turbo, featuring the voice talents of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson, rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, Bollywood film Krrish 3 is a new entry at number eight, earning £408,624 from 95 locations.

‘Assassin’s Creed 4’ beats ‘Battlefield 4’ to top all-formats chart

Assassin’s Creed 4 has outperformed Battlefield 4 at the top of the all-format weekly chart.

Despite charting at one and two respectively, Black Flag and Battlefield sales are down on their predecessors, which enjoyed the highest week-one sales in their respective franchises.

Elsewhere, FIFA 14 remains third, Grand Theft Auto 5 falls to fourth, while a 56% drop in sales sees Batman: Arkham Origins chart at fifth.

Football Manager 2014 and WWE 2K14 debut at six and seven, above the likes of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition, Skylanders: Swap Force and Pokemon Y.

At the tail-end of the chart, Tomb Raider re-enters at 17, above Splinter Cell Blacklist and fellow re-entry Saints Row 4.
