Tom Odell earns debut number one album

Tom Odell has scored a number one album with his debut release Long Way Down.

The BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner landed straight at the top of the chart, outselling number two LP Time by Rod Stewart by over two copies to one.

Passenger climbs two places to three with All the Little Lights, while Michael Bublé rises ten spots to four with former number one To Be Loved.

Glastonbury performer Jake Bugg soars back up 22 places to five with his self-titled debut LP.

Kanye West slips five places from last week’s number one to six with Yeezus.

Empire of the Sun achieve their second UK Top 40 album, with Ice on the Dune entering at 24.

Glastonbury headliners Arctic Monkeys leap a huge 148 places to 32 with their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. Mumford & Sons also re-enter at 37 with Sigh No More, while their second LP Babel climbs eight to 16.

‘Man of Steel’ beats ‘World War Z’ at UK box office

Man of Steel has held off competition from World War Z to spend its second weekend at the top of the UK box office.

The Henry Cavill-led Superman reboot saw a 55% drop in ticket sales, but its £5 million total was still enough to beat the £4.5 million total for Brad Pitt’s zombie apocalypse epic.

Will Smith and Jaden Smith’s science fiction film After Earth lands in third place after experiencing a 65% dip in attendance, while Behind the Candelabra charts at number four. The Hangover Part III, now in its fifth week on release, completes the top five.

Elsewhere, the chart sees new releases Snitch and Before Midnight chart at numbers six and eight respectively.

Fast & Furious 6, which now sits at number nine, is the highest-earning movie overall in the top ten with £24.8 million since its release on May 17.

‘The Last of Us’ remains top of all-formats chart…

The Last of Us tops the all-format weekly chart for a second week running, despite a 48% drop in sales.

Sony’s highly-rated action game is once again followed by Animal Crossing: New Leaf in second, while FIFA 13 climbs two places to capture third.

A recent Max Payne 3 price promotion has seen Rockstar’s shooter re-enter the top five, charting above Black Ops 2, Far Cry 3 and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

MotoGP 13 is this week’s highest new entry at 15, below Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dead Island: Riptide.

Kanye West scores second UK number one album

Kanye West has scored his second UK number one album with Yeezus.

The US rapper landed straight at the top of the chart with his sixth studio album, his first number one since 2007’s Graduation.

Black Sabbath drop to two with last week’s number one 13.

Kodaline enter at three with their debut release In a Perfect World, having been at the top of the chart in the midweeks.

Rod Stewart drops one place to four with Time, while Passenger climbs three to five with All the Little Lights. Daft Punk slip two to six with Random Access Memories.

J Cole scores his highest-charting album to date, landing at seven with Born Sinner. Olly Murs climbs up four to eight with Right Place Right Time.

Sigur Rós achieve their third UK Top 10 album, entering at nine with Kveikur. Disclosure drop five to ten with Settle.

Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack to Man of Steel is a new entry at 20.

Hayley Westenra’s collection of lullabies and traditional songs Hushabye lands at 35.

‘Man of Steel’ has second-biggest opening of 2013

Man of Steel has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

The Henry Cavill-led Superman reboot grossed £11.2 million, making it the second-biggest opening bow of 2013 behind Iron Man 3. Its opening day takings on June 14 were the biggest of the year so far.

“We’re thrilled at the tremendous response we’ve seen from audiences to Zack Snyder’s exciting new vision of the iconic superhero,” said Josh Berger, president and managing director, Warner Bros UK and Ireland.

Man of Steel has proven to be the must-see film of the summer.”

Man of Steel‘s total easily outpaces the opening for the franchise’s previous instalment Superman Returns, which bowed to £4.34 million in 2006.

‘The Last of Us’ grosses more than ‘Man of Steel’ in opening weekend

The Last of Us has ended GRID 2‘s reign on the all-format chart.

The PS3 exclusive is the highest-selling new property since L.A. Noire, and the first Sony number one since Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

Not only is it the third-biggest game of the year, it is believed to have grossed more than Man of Steel over the weekend.

While numbers can’t be disclosed, the PS3 exclusive “comfortably” made more money despite Man of Steel having an audience three times the size, according to MCV.

Elsewhere, Animal Crossing: New Leaf makes its debut in second to become the biggest-selling Nintendo launch since Mario Kart 3DS.

Rugby Lions 2: The Lions Edition is this week’s third-highest new entry at ten, charting above Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

At the tail-end of the chart, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 re-enters at 20, below Resident Evil: Revelations and God of War: Ascension.

Black Sabbath score UK No.1 LP with ’13’

Black Sabbath have scored their first UK number one album in 43 years with 13.

Ozzy Osbourne’s iconic metal band beat Beady Eye to the top spot by 13,000 copies. Liam Gallagher’s band’s second album BE lands at two.

Sabbath now hold the record for the longest gap between number one albums. Bob Dylan previously held the record with 38 years, while Rod Stewart held the British record with 37 years.

Osbourne told The Official Charts Company: “I’m in shock! The success of this album has blown me off my feet. We’ve never had a record climb the charts so fast!

“It’s great. But Rod’s the same as us, we’ve got something other people haven’t got. It’s all manufactured bulls**t these days. But the likes of Rod and Elton John and us have got something different. We know our craft.”

Rod Stewart climbs back a spot to three with Time, swapping places with Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. Disclosure fall four spots from last week’s number one to five with Settle.

Electronic duo Boards of Canada achieve their first UK Top 10 album at seven with Tomorrow’s Harvest. Status Quo land at ten with their latest album Bula Quo!.

‘After Earth’ tops UK box office…

After Earth has topped the UK box office charts following its opening weekend.

M Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi, which stars Will Smith as a father who sends his son (Jaden Smith) on a dangerous mission across a hostile post-apocalyptic Earth, pulled in £2.2 million, easily outstripping The Hangover Part III‘s third week haul of £1.1 million.

Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra was the next highest new entry, debuting at number eight with a weekend total of £513, 288.

Shane Meadows’ documentary The Stone Roses: Made of Stone and Michael Shannon thriller The Iceman debuted at ninth and tenth position respectively.

Fast & Furious 6 and Epic both fell one place, while The Great Gatsby overtook Star Trek Into Darkness to claim fifth place after a month on release.

GRID 2 has retained its place at the top of the all-format gaming chart.

Codemasters’ racing sequel, which experiences a 50% drop in sales, is followed by FIFA 13 in second, while Capcom’s Remember Me debuts in third.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary Edition, which includes the original game and DLC packs, debuts at four, above Far Cry 3 and Dead Island Riptide.

Elsewhere, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 re-enters the chart at 15, above Resident Evil: Revelations and Metro: Last Light.

Disclosure beat Queens of the Stone Age to UK albums No.1

Disclosure have scored a number one album with their debut release Settle.

Queens of the Stone Age settle for number two with their latest album …Like Clockwork, finishing just over 7,000 copies behind after having been ahead at the midweek stage.

It is QOTSA’s highest-charting album in the UK to date, bettering both 2002’s Songs For The Deaf and 2005’s Lullabies To Paralyze.

Disclosure’s Guy and Howard Lawrence told The Official Charts Company: “We’re absolutely delighted with the result. Proudest moment of our lives. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has bought the record.”

Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories drops two spots to three, followed by Rod Stewart’s Time at four. Passenger slips one spot to five with All The Little Lights.

Miles Kane enters at eight with his highest-charting solo album Don’t Forget Who You Are.

Megadeth land at 22 with their 14th studio album Super Collider, their best-charting LP since 1994’s Youthanasia.

Dallas Green’s City and Colour scores his first UK top 40 placing at 32 with The Hurry And The Harm. Sleeping With Sirens follow at 36 with Feel.

Camera Obscura complete the new entries at 39 with their latest release Desire Lines.
