Spider-Man beats The Other Woman at UK box-office

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has retained its place at the top of the UK box office.

The Andrew Garfield-led superhero sequel earned £3.3 million on its second weekend on release to hold off competition from The Other Woman and Transcendence and secure first place.

Romantic comedy The Other Woman, starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton, pulled in £2.6 million to easily outpace Transcendence‘s showing of £1.18 million.

Rio 2 charted at number four, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier completed the top five. Marvel’s sequel has now earned £18 million after five weeks on release in the UK, a total that’s nearly £10 million more than its predecessor The First Avenger.

Elsewhere, the Met Opera’s live cinema broadcast of Cosi Fan Tutte pulled in £362,487 to help it chart at number seven.

Titanfall tops all-format chart

Titanfall is the all-format number one for a third week running, and the fourth since it launched in March.

Respawn’s shooter is once again followed by 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, which charts above Call of Duty: Ghosts, despite a 42% drop in sales for the football title.

With FIFA 14 charting at four, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in at nine and Battlefield 4 climbing to tenth, 50% of the top ten games are published by Electronic Arts.

At the tail-end of the chart, Disney Infinity and Batman: Arkham Origins climb five places a piece to re-enter at 19 and 20, below Thief and Dark Souls 2.

Elsewhere, Trials Fusion drops seven places to 14, above Infamous: Second Son and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Mr Probz scores debut UK number one single with ‘Waves’

Mr Probz has topped the UK Singles Chart with his debut release ‘Waves’.

The track – which has been remixed by German DJ and producer Robin Schulz – has sold 127,000 copies in the last seven days, and has also gone Top 10 in Belgium, France and The Netherlands.

Kiesza’s ‘Hideaway’ slips to two on this week’s countdown, while Sigma’s ‘Nobody To Love’ drops one place to three.

John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’ is a non-mover at four, while Cash Cash complete this week’s top five with ‘Take Me Home’, featuring Bebe Rexha.

DJ Cassidy claims his first UK Top 10 hit at six with ‘Calling All Hearts’, which features Robin Thicke and Jessie J.

Meanwhile, Neon Jungle have landed their second Top 10 single with ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ at number seven.

Shift K3Y’s ‘Touch’ slips five places to number eight, while Tove Lo’s ‘Stay High’ is down three to nine and Pharrell Williams’s ‘Happy’ is at ten after 23 weeks on the chart.

Elsewhere, Indiana makes her Official Singles Chart debut with ‘Solo Dancing’ at 14, while London-based singer-songwriter Joel Compass scores his first Top 40 hit with ‘Forgive Me’ at 34.

Justin Timberlake’s latest 20/20 Experience single ‘Not A Bad Thing’ climbs 59 places to number 35, and Lana Del Rey’s 2012 track ‘Gods & Monsters’ is at 39 after being featured in a new EastEnders advert.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings to top of UK box office

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has topped the UK cinema charts in its first weekend on release.

The superhero sequel, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, earned £9 million to see off competition from Rio 2 and Noah to lead the Bank Holiday box office.

Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s debut falls short of its predecessor, which earned £11 million when it opened in 2012.

Rio 2 climbed up a place from last week to number two, while Darren Aronofsky’s Noah fell down a spot to number three.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, last week’s chart-topper, slips down to number four just ahead of new release The Love Punch at five.

Elsewhere, Tom Hardy’s one-man thriller Locke and Bollywood film 2 States are new entries at numbers nine and ten respectively.

Titanfall beats 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to top of charts

Titanfall has retained its place at the top of the all-format chart above 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

EA’s latest World Cup tie-in makes its chart debut in second, having sold the majority of its copies on Xbox 360 (66%).

LEGO: The Hobbit drops to third, FIFA 14 falls to fourth, while Call of Duty: Ghosts holds on to fifth above South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Trials Fusion is this week’s second highest new entry at seven. Sales were almost evenly split among Xbox One and PS4.

Outside of the top ten, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn re-enters at 20, below Kinect Sports Rivals and Dark Souls 2.

Kiesza claims UK number one with debut single ‘Hideaway’

Kiesza has topped the UK Singles Chart with her debut single ‘Hideaway’.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has knocked Sigma’s ‘Nobody To Love’ from number one, with ‘Hideaway’ becoming the third fastest-selling single of 2014 so far.

The track has sold 136,000 copies in the UK over the last seven days.

John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’ is a non-mover at four, while Aloe Blacc’s recent chart-topper, ‘The Man’, drops from number three to five.

Tove Lo’s ‘Stay High’ rises from 12 to six on this week’s countdown, while Pharrell Williams is a non-mover at seven with ‘Happy’, and Duke Dumont drops two places to eight with the Jax Jones-assisted ‘I Got U’.

Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s ‘Fancy’ slips four places to nine in its second week on the chart, with Route 94 and Jess Glynne’s ‘My Love’ completing the Top 10.

Elyar Fox’s second single ‘A Billion Girls’ narrowly misses out on the Top 10, debuting at 11. Meridian Dan is a new entry at number 13 with ‘German Whip’, featuring Big H and JME.

Meanwhile, Showtek, Justin Prime and Matthew Koma’s ‘Cannonball (Earthquake)’ debuts at number 29.

Captain America 2 returns to UK box office top slot…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier has returned to the top of the UK box office.

Marvel’s sequel earned £1.78 million to leapfrog Noah and Rio 2 on its third weekend on release.

The Winter Soldier has now pulled in £14.6 million from its UK cinema run, up on the £9.5 haul taken by predecessor The First Avenger in 2011.

Divergent held its place at number four, while The Quiet Ones is a new entry at number five.

Elsewhere, the chart saw new releases Calvary and The Raid 2 debut at numbers seven and eight respectively.

The highest-earning film in the top ten is The Lego Movie, which took its UK total to £32.5 million after adding £196,050 to its tally last weekend.

Sigma beat The Vamps to score first UK number one single

Sigma have claimed their first UK number one single with ‘Nobody To Love’.

The track – from duo Joe Lenzie and Cameron Edwards – has sold 121,000 copies over the last seven days to beat The Vamps’ latest single ‘Last Night’ to the top spot.

‘Nobody To Love’ – a drum ‘n’ bass re-working of Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’ – becomes the third biggest selling single of the year so far.

The Vamps have narrowly missed out on a number one single for the third time, with ‘Last Night’ becoming their second single to chart at number two.

Aloe Blacc – who topped the chart last weekend – drops to number three with ‘The Man’, while John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’ slips two places to four.

Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX are a new entry at number five on this week’s countdown with ‘Fancy’. The song becomes Azalea’s highest charting single to date as she prepares to release her debut album The New Classic tomorrow (April 14).

Meanwhile, Duke Dumont’s ‘I Got U’ drops to six, Pharrell Williams’s ‘Happy’ is down one to seven, and Route 94’s ‘My Love’ slips from four to eight.

Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne’s ‘Rather Be’ is down one place to nine, while Katy Perry re-enters the Top 10 this week with ‘Dark Horse’, rising from 11 to ten.

The Saturdays have scored their 17th UK Top 40 hit with ‘Not Giving Up’, which is a new entry at number 19.

Meanwhile, David Guetta and Showtek’s ‘Bad’, feauturing Vassy, debuts at number 22, while ‘Coming Home’ from Kaiser Chiefs make its Top 40 debut at 31.

Divergent, Noah sunk by Rio 2 at UK box office

Rio 2 has topped the UK cinema chart on its debut weekend on release.

The Blue Sky Studios animated sequel, posting earnings of £2.8 million (up on the £1.5 million haul of its 2011 predecessor), won a highly-competitive box office battle which saw both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Noah gross more than £2 million from UK screens.

Divergent, the Shailene Woodley action film, debuted at number four with £1.7 million. The film falls short of fellow YA movies Twilight and The Hunger Games, which debuted to £2.5 million and £4.9 million respectively.

Muppets Most Wanted, down three places from last week’s runner-up spot, completes the top five.

Elsewhere, the chart saw new entries for opera broadcast La Boheme and Richard Ayoade’s The Double.
