Tekken 7 relieves Injustice 2 of first place honours

Monday, June 5th, 2017

Would you believe Tekken 7 just scored the first UK retail number in franchise history since Tekken 3 (1998)? Well, it’s actually true. The most recent release Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (2012) only managed 2nd place behind Sleeping Dogs in its first week and Tekken 6 actually only debuted in 8th spot back in 2010 (stiff competition as it was a late October release). As you’d expect Tekken 7 was a lot more popular on PS4 than on Xbox One during launch week, no doubt partially due to its legacy on PlayStation platforms. In fact, Tekken 7 on Xbox One only managed 12th spot in the individual chart, behind Overwatch, Injustice 2, FIFA 17, GTAV, and Gears of War 4 on the platform.

Overwatch continues to enjoy an immense sales spike thanks to the price promotion in place for its one year anniversary, while Injustice 2 falls to third place following to straight weeks at number one. Some other new releases are found further down the charts with Star Trek: Bridge Crew managing 16th spot in the all formats chart. A decent start for a VR game, and it was joined by other VR titles PlayStation VR Worlds (20), Farpoint (30), perhaps indicating some decent PSVR sales this week. Milestone’s MXGP 3 came in 22nd in its first week. In other news, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fell to 15th in the all formats chart, indicating a relatively slow week in Switch hardware sales, unless Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has taken over as the must-buy first game on the console that is.
