Avengers: Age of Ultron dominates UK box office

Avengers: Age of Ultron has topped the UK box office, delivering record-breaking figures.

The Marvel blockbuster earned more than £18 million to record the biggest ever April opening, as well as the highest ever for a superhero movie.

Fast & Furious 7 drops to second place after three consecutive weekends at the top, ahead of Cinderella and Home.

The Met Opera’s Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci is a new entry at number five, while Get Hard re-enters the top ten at number nine.

Mortal Kombat X remains the UK’s best-selling game

Mortal Kombat X is the UK’s best-selling game across all-formats for a second week.

The gory fighting sequel is once again followed by GTA 5 and Battlefield Hardline in second and third place.

Elsewhere, Minecraft PlayStation Edition has jumped five places to fourth position, while FIFA 15 is in fifth.

The PS4 edition of Tropico 4 was the only new release last week, which saw the game re-enter the chart in 18th place following the Xbox 360 and PC release last year.

A recent report said game pre-orders had seen a decline in the past year.

Watch first trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

One of the world’s most celebrated game franchises is back – Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been unveiled.

A new trailer for the first-person shooter was revealed today (April 26), teasing the release of the game before it arrives on November 6.

Black Ops 3 will be set in the aftermath of Black Ops 2’s 21st century cold war, where soldiers are heavily reliant on cybernetic limbs, Eurogamer reports.

The Treyarch game will feature a new movement system, which will see wall-running introduced. Players will also be able to mantle objects faster, run along walls and power-slide.

The option of four-player co-op throughout its campaign is also new, as is the addition of underwater combat.

Wiz Khalifa holds on to UK’s number 1 single

Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth have held on to the UK’s number one single with ‘See You Again’, setting a brand new streaming record in the process.

The Fast & Furious 7 track, which pays tribute to Paul Walker, sits at the top for a second week with combined chart sales of 142,000 over the last seven days.

‘See You Again’ has also broken the UK’s all-time streaming record with 3.72 million listens during the last week. The new figure beats the single’s previous record-breaking total of 3.68 million.

Khalifa said: “I was really honoured to be asked to be a part of this song in paying tribute to Paul Walker. I hope we did him proud.”

OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ remains at number two, while Jess Glynne’s ‘Hold My Hand’ stays at three.

Clean Bandit’s ‘Stronger’ debuts at number four, as Nick Jonas rounds out the top five singles of the week with ‘Jealous’.

Michael Calfan debuts at number 17 with house track ‘Treasured Soul’, and Skrillex and Diplo’s ‘Where Are U Now’ featuring Justin Bieber climbs to number 32.

Fast & Furious 7 spends third week at top of UK box office

Fast & Furious 7 has topped the UK box office for the third consecutive weekend.

The action sequel earned £3 million to secure first place and take its cumulative UK earnings past the £32 million mark. Worldwide the film recently crossed $1 billion after just 17 days on release.

Cinderella sits in second place ahead of Home and new release Child 44.

Woman in Gold climbs up two places to number five, while the only other new film to crack the top ten is Alan Rickman’s directorial offering A Little Chaos, which debuts at number seven.

Mortal Kombat X tops the all-format gaming chart

Mortal Kombat X has topped the all-format gaming chart above GTA 5.

As previously reported, Mortal Kombat X has enjoyed the biggest launch in the franchise’s history, and is second only to Battlefield Hardline in week one sales for the year so far.

Following the release of the PC version, GTA 5 climbs to second after a 94% week-on-week increase in sales.

However, according to MCV, GTA 5 would have been number one if digital sales were factored into the weekly charts. The PC version is believed to have sold six times as many copies online compared to retail.

Elsewhere, Battlefield Hardline drops to third, above FIFA 15, Bloodborne and Far Cry 4.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, both versions of Minecraft and Dying Light complete this week’s top ten.

Wiz Khalifa’s single ‘See You Again’ is No.1

Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth have soared to the top of the UK singles chart with ‘See You Again’.

The Fast & Furious 7 track, which pays tribute to Paul Walker, is the fastest-selling single of 2015 so far, climbing 21 places with combined chart sales of 193,000.

It has also set a new streaming record, having racked up 3.68 million streams over the past week.

OMI climbs 25 places into number two with ‘Cheerleader’. The Felix Jaehn remix of the song was rush-released due to popular demand.

Last week’s number one, ‘Hold My Hand’ by Jess Glynne, falls two places into number three, while Dr Kucho and Gregor Salto’s collaboration ‘Can’t Stop Playing (Makes Me Higher)’ featuring Ane Brun is at four.

‘King’ by Years & Years completes the top five, having fallen two places since last week.

Lethal Bizzle enters the chart at number 11 with ‘Fester Skank’, while Major Lazer and MO’s ‘Lean On’ jumps 11 places into 13.

Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Trouble’ lands at number 21, and Kodaline track ‘The One’ is at 27.

Fast & Furious 7 tops UK box office for a second week

Fast & Furious 7 has won the UK box office for a second consecutive week.

The latest instalment of the racing series – starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriguez – earned three times as much as its nearest competitor with £5.4m.

Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella holds firm at number two with £1.8m, while Rihanna’s animation Home remains at three with £1.5m.

High school comedy The DUFF is a new entry at four, taking £891,691. There are also new entries for John Wick, Woman in Gold and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

Get Hard and Insurgent complete this week’s Top 10 at nine and ten respectively.

Battlefield Hardline tops gaming chart for a fourth week

Battlefield Hardline has topped the chart for a fourth week running.

The cops and robbers-themed first-person shooter remains top despite experiencing a 56% drop in weekly sales.

FIFA 15 climbs two places to second, while GTA 5 drops to third above Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Elsewhere, Bloodborne drops a further three places to six, Forza Horizon 2 climbs six places to seven, while Borderlands: The Handsome Collection falls to eight.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Minecraft: Xbox Edition complete this week’s top ten.

Following the launch of Xbox One and Xbox 360 editions, PQube’s Ride climbs 31 places to enter the top 20 at 18.

Jess Glynne tops singles chart for third week

Jess Glynne has retained her spot at the top of the UK singles chart with ‘Hold My Hand’.

The singer enjoys a third week at number one after fighting off competition from Nick Jonas, whose solo single ‘Jealous’ climbs 111 places into number two.

Years & Years’ ‘King’ rises one place to number three. It is also the most streamed song this week, racking up over 1.87 million listens.

James Bay falls one place to number four with ‘Hold Back the River’, while Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bloodstream’ rounds off the top five.

Stevie McCrorie, having led the singles midweek chart, enters at number six with his debut single – a cover of Adam Levine’s ‘Lost Stars’.

He becomes the highest-charting Voice UK winner, overtaking Andrea Begley whose version of Evanescence’s ‘My Immortal’ reached number 30 in 2013.

Pep & Rash lands at number 17 with ‘Rumors’. Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’, featuring Charlie Puth, enters at 22 on streams alone, with the Fast & Furious 7 track streamed 1.8 million times.

Meanwhile, Meghan Trainor’s ‘Dear Future Husband’ climbs eight places to number 40, giving the singer her third top 40 hit.
