‘Minions’ topple ‘Jurassic World’ at UK box office

The Minions may be no match for the Indominus Rex in terms of size, but the Despicable Me critters have taken down Jurassic World at the UK box office.

Minions opened to £11.5 million, ending the Jurassic sequel’s two-week reign at the chart summit. The latter still managed to add an impressive £5.7 million to its box office tally, taking its UK total to £48 million.

Jurassic World is the successful film in the UK this year to-date, topping other strong performers Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fast & Furious 7.

Elsewhere in the week’s box office chart, new releases Knock Knock and Michael Fassbender western Slow West debut at numbers seven and ten respectively.

Arkham Knight is the biggest gaming launch of the year

Batman: Arkham Knight may not have had the smoothest launch, but that hasn’t stopped it from storming to the top of the all-format gaming chart.

In fact, the latest entry in the Arkham series is the year’s biggest-selling week-one title, comfortably beating previous best-seller The Witcher 3.

It’s also the biggest-selling Arkham game in terms of week-one sales, and Warner’s fourth number one of the year so far, after Dying Light, Mortal Kombat X and LEGO Jurassic Park, the latter of which drops to second.

Elder Scrolls Online drops one place to third, above Yoshi’s Woolly World, which is this week’s second highest new entry at four.

The Witcher 3, GTA 5 and Advanced Warfare follow at five, six and seven, while FIFA 15 drops three places to eight.

Sandwiched between Destiny and Minecraft: Xbox Edition, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward makes its debut at ten.

Tinie Tempah tops the UK singles chart for a sixth time

Tinie Tempah has topped the UK singles chart for the sixth time with ‘Not Letting Go’.

The track, which features vocals from Jess Glynne, notched up combined sales of 110,000. It follows the rapper’s previous chart-toppers ‘Pass Out’, ‘Written In The Stars’, ‘R.I.P.’ with Rita Ora, ‘Tsunami (Jump)’ and ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ with Cheryl.

Belgian producer Lost Frequencies climbs 44 places in the chart into number two with ‘Are You With Me’, making the UK the 22nd country the song has reached the Top 10 in.

Last week’s chart-topper by Jason Derulo ‘Want To Want Me’ falls two places into number three, while Walk The Moon’s ‘Shut Up & Dance’ climbs one place into number four.

The top five is completed by Major Lazer, MO and DJ Snake’s ‘Lean On’ which has fallen three places since last week.

Flo Rida enters the Top 10 at number 7 with ‘I Don’t Like It, I Love It’, which features Robin Thicke and Verdine White. The track gives the rapper his 14th UK Top 10 hit.

James Bay’s ‘Let It Go’ jumps 28 places to enter the Top 40 at number 17, while X Factor finalists Stereo Kicks enter at number 31 with their debut single ‘Love Me So’.

Duke Dumont’s ‘The Giver’ enters the Top 40 at number 32 following its full download release.

Jurassic World retains lead at UK box office

Jurassic World has fought off competition from Take That to retain the number one spot at the UK box office, with takings of £11.1 million.

The Chris Pratt-starring dinosaur movie has now earned £38.5 million in the UK alone in its first two weeks of release, smashing cinema records across the world in the process.

Take That’s live show from The O2 in London is at number two, after taking £965,000 at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Spy dips to three with £922,399 and Sir Ian McKellen’s Mr Holmes is a new entry at four with takings of £741,080.

Entourage is another new entry and rounds out the top five with £632,754.

Elsewhere at the UK box office, The Longest Ride is a new entry at seven, while The Empire Strikes Back remains in the top ten thanks to Secret Cinema.

LEGO Jurassic World tops all-format gaming chart

LEGO Jurassic World has overtaken Elder Scrolls Online at the top of the all-format sales chart.

Elder Scrolls Online may have outperformed LEGO Jurassic World last week, but the two games have swapped places in their second week on sale.

Surprisingly, the majority of LEGO Jurassic World sales were made on Xbox 360. The game sold 38% of all copies on Xbox 360, 21% on PS4, 19% on Xbox One and 17% on PS3.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains in third place for a second week, followed by GTA 5, FIFA 15 and Payday 2: Crimewave Edition.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Splatoon, Destiny and Minecraft: Xbox Edition make up the remainder of the top ten.

Jason Derulo continues singles chart reign

Jason Derulo has continued his reign at the top of the UK singles chart this week, as ‘Want to Want Me’ is number one for the fourth week running.

The track’s combined chart sales of 57,000 allowed Derulo to beat Major Lazer, MO and DJ Snake’s ‘Lean On’ to the top spot.

‘Want to Want Me’ is the fourth track this year to spend at least four weeks at number one. Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ spent six weeks at the top at the start of 2015.

OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ falls one place into number three, while Deorro and Chris Brown’s ‘Five More Hours’ enters at four.

Walk the Moon’s ‘Shut Up and Dance’ climbs three places to complete the top five.

Britney Spears gets her 30th top 40 hit, with Iggy Azalea collaboration ‘Pretty Girls’ a new entry at number 16.

The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ debuts at number 34, while Kygo and Parson James’s ‘Stole the Show’ is new at 38.

Jurassic World is a monster hit at the UK box office

Jurassic World is officially a monster hit at the UK box office, with takings of £19.3 million.

The Chris Pratt-starring dinosaur movie debuts at number one, knocking Melissa McCarthy’s Spy off the top spot.

The Jurassic Park sequel has smashed cinema records across the world, achieving the highest global opening of all time over the weekend.

Elsewhere at the UK box office, San Andreas, Insidious: Chapter 3 and Pitch Perfect 2 round out the top five, as Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back remains in the top ten thanks to Secret Cinema.

Musical London Road debuts at number eight, and Disney’s Tomorowland: A World Beyond‘s fourth week in screens earns £121k.

Jason Derulo remains at number 1 for a third week

Jason Derulo has remained top of the UK singles chart for the third week running.

‘Want to Want Me’ ended 11,000 combined chart sales ahead of this week’s number two, OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’.

The track is Derulo’s fourth UK number one single, following 2010’s ‘In My Head’, 2011’s ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ and 2013’s ‘Talk Dirty’.

Meanwhile, ‘Cheerleader’ takes the title of the most streamed track of the week, with 2.33 million listens over the last seven days.

‘Lean On’ by Major Lazer, MO and DJ Snake is at three, as Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber’s ‘Where Are U Now’ takes number four.

Rounding out the top five selling singles of the week is ‘Runaway (U & I)’ by Galantis.

Walk the Moon take number eight with ‘Shut Up and Dance’, while Selena Gomez and Zedd’s ‘I Want You to Know’ lands at number 14.

‘We All Want the Same Thing’ by Rixton is at 21, and Rudimental’s ‘Never Let You Go’ featuring Foy Vance takes 30.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Photograph’ is at number 34.

Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Spy’ tops the UK box-office

Spy has topped the UK box office with takings of £2.6m.

Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law’s action comedy knocks San Andreas from number one and down to the second spot with £1.8m.

This week’s top 5 is completed by Insidious: Chapter 3, Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2.

Avengers: Age of Ultron drops to six in its seventh week of release with £341,491.

Elsewhere, Bollywood release Dil Dhadakne Do is a new entry at eight with takings of £310,941.

The Witcher 3 remains top of the gaming charts

The Witcher 3 has maintained its grip on the top of the all-format weekly chart.

The latest game in The Witcher series remains top for a third week running, despite a 44% drop in weekly sales.

GTA 5 – which has been in the top five all year – is The Witcher 3‘s closest challenger in second, while FIFA 15 climbs to third.

Nintendo’s paint-based shooter Splatoon drops two places to four, above Battlefield Hardline, Project Cars and Farming Simulator 15.

Destiny, Minecraft Xbox Edition and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare complete this week’s top ten.

The only new entry comes in the form of Steins;Gate, which debuts at 18 after launching on PS3 and Vita in Europe.
