Jurassic World is a monster hit at the UK box office

Jurassic World is officially a monster hit at the UK box office, with takings of £19.3 million.

The Chris Pratt-starring dinosaur movie debuts at number one, knocking Melissa McCarthy’s Spy off the top spot.

The Jurassic Park sequel has smashed cinema records across the world, achieving the highest global opening of all time over the weekend.

Elsewhere at the UK box office, San Andreas, Insidious: Chapter 3 and Pitch Perfect 2 round out the top five, as Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back remains in the top ten thanks to Secret Cinema.

Musical London Road debuts at number eight, and Disney’s Tomorowland: A World Beyond‘s fourth week in screens earns £121k.
