Stormzy’s Vossi Bop scores second week at Number 1

May 10th, 2019

Stormzy dances his way to a second week at Number 1 with the infectious Vossi Bop.

Vossi Bop, Stormzy’s first chart-topping single, clocked up over 11 million listens in its second week, out-streaming its closest rival, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road, by 1.3 million plays.

Following the exciting receipt of his first Number 1 award, Stormzy surprised fans at London’s Brixton Academy last Friday (May 3) when he appeared on stage with fellow chart-topping rapper Dave to perform the hit.

Lewis Capaldi claims two simultaneous Top 5 singles for the first time this week – first up, former chart-topper Someone You Loved, which goes back up one to Number 3, and right behind it at Number 4, Hold Me While You Wait, both this week’s highest new entry and most downloaded track.

Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes debuts at Number 9 with If I Can’t Have You, his fifth Top 10 hit.

Logic earns his second Top 40 single with Homicide ft. Eminem which debuts at 15, while South London rappers Hardy Caprio and Digdat say Guten Tag to the Top 20 with their new collaboration going straight in at 18.

Finally, Ellie Goulding rises five to 31 with Sixteen, and Bugzy Malone rockets 60 slots to Number 34 with new single M.E.N II to become the Manchester rapper’s first Top 40 hit.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age had its Switch release too, but we haven’t seen that in the top 10 list, since it debuts at 15. For the full top 10 though, look down below.

Stormzy scores debut Number 1 with Vossi Bop

May 3rd, 2019

Stormzy’s Vossi Bop has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with massive streaming figures.

Clocking up 12.7 million listens, Stormzy claims the biggest week of streams ever for a rapper – smashing the previous figure set by Drake’s In My Feelings by over two million – and the fifth biggest streaming week of all time.

The Glastonbury headliner also claims the second biggest first-week combined sales of 2019 so far with 94,500 – second only to Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings which opened with 126,000 combined sales in January.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Stormzy said, “Words don’t really do it justice. I’m genuinely, for once in my life, speechless!  My supporters have had my back like crazy – this is all you guys, thank you so much”

Previous chart topper Old Town Road by Lil Nas X drops to Number 2 this week, ahead of Taylor Swift’s Me! ft. Brendon Urie which debuts at Number 3, becoming Taylor’s ninth Top 5 hit.

Meanwhile, Dave’s Location ft. Burna Boy (10) returns to the Top 10; Jax Jones, Martin Solveig and Madison Beer rise further with All Day And Night (12), and Pink moves up two with Walk Me Home (16), as she also scores her third Number 1 album in the UK with Hurts 2B Human.

Wildlife charity RSPB claim the week’s highest sales after shifting 23,500 CD singles and downloads of their birdsong track Let Nature Sing, which debuts at Number 18. Earlier this week Diplo remixed the track on BBC Radio 1.

Rapper Digga D climbs seven with No Diet (20); Lil Dicky is up three with his star-studded track Earth (21); and Rita Ora and Kygo’s Detective Pikachu single Carry On (30) rises nine places.

Gaming charts: Days Gone rides into first place

April 29th, 2019

Last week’s UK physical charts have been topped by none other than Bend Studio’s PS4 exclusive title Days Gone, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, who also reveal that physical sales are 27% less than God of War achieved last year.

That doesn’t mean the figures are shabby though, as GfK revealed that Days Gone has had the biggest physical launch of the year so far in the UK.

Days Gone’s success means Mortal Kombat 11 sits at number two as a result, a game with sales 43.6% less than Mortal Kombat X in 2015, although this might be more indicative of the growing preference for digital downloads in this period. Mortal Kombat 11 has hit higher sales than Injustice 2 though, and had 71% of its sales on PS4.

A 70% decline in sales means World War Z moves from number one to 10 this week, and elsewhere in the top 10 (that you can see below) there are many of the usual suspects.

1. Days Gone / Sony
2. Mortal Kombat 11 / Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
3. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
4. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
5. The Division 2 / Ubisoft
6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
7. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice / Activision
8. Forza Horizon 4 / Microsoft
9. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe / Nintendo
10. World War Z / Focus Home Interactive

Lewis Capaldi scores a seventh week at Number 1

April 13th, 2019

Lewis Capaldi keeps his place at the top of the charts with Someone You Loved, denying Lil Nas X the Number 1 spot with his viral hit Old Town Road.

Someone You Loved logs 69,000 combined sales this week, including 8.16 million streams, to score a seventh week at the top of the Official Singles Chart. Further down, South Korean girl group Blackpink debut at Number 33 with Kill This Love, their highest UK singles chart position yet, Let Me Down Slowly by rising star Alec Benjamin hops ten places to make its Top 40 debut at Number 36, and Jonas Brothers bow at 39 with their latest release Cool.
