Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber make it eight weeks at Number 1

July 5th, 2019

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber reach eight consecutive weeks at Number 1 with I Don’t Care, as Ed claims three places in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10.

The pair deny Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Senorita (2) the top spot despite the latin-pop single improving on its performance last week by 3,700 combined sales.

Ed Sheeran takes highest new entry honours at Number 3 with Beautiful People ft. Khalid, marking Khalid’s tenth Top 10 single and Ed’s 24th. Ed’s third Top 10 this week, Cross Me ft. Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock, is at Number 6.

Stormzy’s latest single Crown climbs one to Number 4 following his landmark Glastonbury headline slot on June 28, Mabel secures her third Top 10 with Mad Love, climbing 5 places to Number 8, and Sigala and Becky Hill also reach the Top 10 for the first time with Wish You Well, up two to 9.

After 18 weeks in the Top 100, AJ Tracey’s slow-burner Ladbroke Grove enters the Top 20 after climbing five places to Number 16. Dominic Fike rises six to Number 20 with 3 Nights, Young T & Bugsey reach a new peak with Strike A Pose ft. Aitch at 22, and Martin Garrix’s Summer Days with Macklemore and Patrick Stump jumps seven spots to Number 26.

Further down, Chris Brown’s new single Don’t Check On Me feat. Justin Bieber and Ink debuts at 29, Mark Ronson and Camila Cabello rise six places to 31 with Find U Again, and Miley Cyrus rebounds seven places to 33 with Mother’s Daughter.

Finally, Kygo’s remix of Higher Love featuring vocals from Whitney Houston lands the late vocalist her first posthumous Top 40 hit since 2012, debuting at Number 36.

Super Mario Maker has a chart-topping return

July 1st, 2019

Super Mario Maker 2 has just been released on the Nintendo Switch, and it seems as if the return of the creative sandbox game has been a welcome one, as the game has just topped the UK physical charts for last week, overtaking Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled to get there, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

Super Mario Maker’s return is the biggest Nintendo launch of the year so far, and joins the likes of Mario Kart 8: Deluxe in the top 10, which has moved from eight to five, increasing 39% in sales. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also reappears in the charts at number 10, jumping 14% in sales, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is just 28 copies away from reaching the top 10.

Elsewhere on Switch this version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has also released, bumping it from 17 to nine in the charts, and the Switch version actually sold more in its first week than PS4 and Xbox One combined.

Crash Team Racing’s nostalgia-fest had a 48% decrease in sales from the week before, and just behind it is F1 2019 in third place, with almost the exact same sales as last year. Judgment then sits at number four, the new IP from Sega, and for the full top 10 list check down below. Bear in mind it was all close too, since 4,000 games separated number four from 40 in the charts.

Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber hold off Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello

June 28th, 2019

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber extend their reign at Number 1 with I Don’t Care to a seventh consecutive week on this week’s Official Singles Chart.

The song, which features on Ed’s upcoming No.6 Collaborations Project (out July 12), leads its closest rival by 8,500 combined sales. Additionally, Ed’s Cross Me ft. Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock reaches a new peak at Number 4 following the release of its music video.

Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello sashay into second place with Señorita, claiming this week’s highest new entry. It’s the pair’s second collaboration, following 2015’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

As Stormzy prepares to headline Glastonbury tonight, he claims two Top 5 singles: Vossi Bop (3) which debuted at Number 1 in May, and brand-new single Crown (5).

Elsewhere, Sigala and Becky Hill rise three places to the cusp of the Top 10 at 11 with Wish You Well, while Mabel’s Mad Love climbs three to 13.

Bugzy Malone claims his first Top 20 single with Kilos feat. fellow Mancunian rapper Aitch at 20, Lil Nas X’s Panini – the follow-up to chart-topper Old Town Town – opens at 25, and UK drill rappers Russ MB and Digga D impact at 28 with their new track Mr Sheeen.

Mocking It by Jay1 debuts at Number 19 – the Coventry rapper’s second Top 20 hit after Your Mrs (third including his feature on the remix of Russ and Tion Wayne’s Keisha & Becky).

Finally, Nicki Minaj claims her 35th Top 40 track with Megatron at Number 34, and Mark Ronson’s Find U Again ft. Camila Cabello vaults 17 places to Number 37 following the release of his latest album Late Night Feelings.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled tops the UK gaming charts

June 24th, 2019

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was far and away the best-selling game in the UK last week, eclipsing its nearest rival with nearly eight copies of the game sold for every copy of FIFA 19 that was shifted at UK retailers over the last seven days.

Outselling a year-old football game, even here in the UK, isn’t that noteworthy, but the news that it sold four times as many copies as Sonic Team Racing did during its first week on sale puts things into perspective better, we think.

It’s also worth noting that the Crash-themed kart racer is actually the third biggest launch of the year so far, and only sits behind Days Gone and Resident Evil 2 when it comes to week one sales here in the UK. Given how well Activision’s previous remasters sold over the last couple of summers, including Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy (which remains the biggest launch in the franchise’s history), it’s a fair bet to say that it’ll remain around the top ten for some time.

Elsewhere, the only debut of note this week was Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which only just made the top twenty (in at No.17), although the GfK Chart-Track top forty only currently takes retailer data into account, so there’s a good chance that digital sales for that one will have been stronger than those at bricks and mortar stores. Anyway, here’s this week’s top ten:

1. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled / Activision
2. FIFA 19 / EA
3. Forza Horizon 4 / Microsoft
4. Days Gone / Sony
5. Red Dead Redemption II / Take-Two
6. Battlefield V / EA
7. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
9. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 / Ubisoft
10. Anthem / EA

I Don’t Care extends its reign at Number 1

June 7th, 2019

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber celebrate their fourth week at Number 1 as I Don’t Care keeps its grip over the Official Singles Chart.

Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road holds firm at Number 2 for a sixth consecutive week, while the rest of the Top 5 remains unchanged.

There are seven new entries landing in this week’s Top 40 with Katy Perry scoring the highest of the week with Never Really Over, making its debut at Number 13. Skepta scores three Top 40 entries following the release of his Ignorance Is Bliss album: What Do You Mean ft. J Hus lands at Number 14, Greaze Mode with Nafe Smallz, rebounds 29 places to a new peak at Number 18, and Bullet From A Gun jumps 36 places to Number 32.

Elsewhere, Lewis Capaldi’s Bruises debuts at 16, Sigala and Becky Hill’s Wish You Well makes another leap up the chart, lifting 15 spots to 24, and James Arthur’s latest track Falling Like The Stars enjoys a ten-place climb to 25. Miley Cyrus’s Mother’s Daughter debuts at 31, earning the US star her 15th UK Top 40 single.

Finally, D-Day veteran and folk singer Jim Radford debuts at Number 72 with The Shores of Normandy – a song about his experience at the Battle of Normandy released to mark its 75th anniversary this week.

Blood & Truth is the first VR game to top the charts

June 4th, 2019

While VR is emerging as a technology, it hasn’t quite reached mainstream popularity just yet, although that hasn’t stopped PSVR exclusive Blood & Truth making waves in the UK physical charts. In fact, last week it reached the top spot, becoming the first VR game to do so, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

This was just 400 copies ahead of FIFA 19, so it was a closely-fought contest, and might even top the London studio’s other hit PlayStation VR Worlds, which is currently the top-selling VR game in the UK.

Team Sonic Racing fell from number one to three after a 46% decline in sales, and overall there was actually just over 6,000 copies separating number 40 and the top spot. At number six we’ve also seen Cricket 19, selling 60% of the copies on PS4. Little Friends: Dogs & Cats, however, sits at 24.

You can find the full top 10 list below. Are you surprised to see Blood & Truth there?

1. Blood & Truth / Sony
2. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
3. Team Sonic Racing / Sega
4. Days Gone / Sony
5. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
6. Cricket 19 / Big Ant Studios
7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
8. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
9. Forza Horizon 4 / Microsoft
10. Mortal Kombat 11 / Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

The single, which will appear on Ed Sheeran’s upcoming collaborations album, posts another impressive week of sales and streams, notching up 98,000 combined sales.

Lil Nas X remains at Number 2 for another week with Old Town Road but boasts his biggest week so far following the release of the song’s music video – racking up 85,000 combined sales including 12.8 million streams.

Lewis Capaldi has three tracks in the Top 10 following the release of his debut album: former Number 1 Someone You Loved (3) which has its biggest week so far with over 74,000 combined sales, Hold Me While You Wait (5), and Grace (9), which flies 17 places to its highest ever position.

Elsewhere in the chart, Jax Jones claims his fifth Top 10 single with All Day And Night, his collaboration with Martin Solveig and Madison Beer.

Tyler The Creator takes highest new entry honours with Earfquake at 17, following the release of his latest album Igor. Another track from the record, I Think, lands at 30.

Ellie Goulding’s Sixteen climbs four to a new peak at 21, Digga D’s No Diet jumps eight places to 25, and Halsey debuts at 26 with Nightmare, marking her seventh Top 40 single. Da Beatfreakz, Swarmz, Deno and Dappy’s collaboration Motorola (32) climbs three, ahead of Mark Ronson’s Late Night Feelings ft. Lykke Li (33), which jumps six places.

Further down, Summer Days by Martin Garrix, Macklemore and Patrick Stump enters the Top 40 for the first time after vaulting 27 places to Number 36, becoming Martin Garrix’s tenth Top 40.

DJ Khaled earns his fifth Top 40 single with Jealous ft. Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, and finally, rising US rapper and singer Dominic Fike claims his first ever UK Top 40 hit with 3 Nights, flying fifteen places to Number 39.

Gaming charts: Rage 2 topples Days Gone

May 20th, 2019

Bend Studio’s PS4-exclusive Days Gone has been sitting pretty at the top spot of the UK physical game charts for a while now, but this past week Avalanche Studios and id Software’s explosive Rage 2 made enough of an impact to dethrone it and claim the top spot for itself, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

This is higher than the first game achieved, but in fact Rage 2 has fallen short of the original when it comes to physical sales, getting a quarter of the first’s sales back in 2011. Of course digital is far more popular now, but it’s still remarkably less than the first.

57% of the sales came on PS4, with those on Xbox One making up 38% and PC accounting for 5% (again, this is an area where physical sales will be much less than digital).

Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Innocence has managed to land at number nine as well, with Sniper Elite V2 Remastered coming in at number 13, 100 units away from the tenth position.

Days Gone has a 38% dip in sales to hit number two, with Mortal Kombat 11 also falling to number four from two due to a decrease of 47%.

For the full top 10 look down below. Have you been playing Rage 2?

1. Rage 2 / Bethesda
2. Days Gone / Sony
3. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
4. Mortal Kombat 11 / Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
5. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
7. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
8. The Division 2 / Ubisoft
9. A Plague Tale: Innocence / Focus Home Interactive
10. New Super Mario Bros. U / Nintendo

Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber’s I Don’t Care scores huge Number 1 debut

May 17th, 2019

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber storm to Number 1 with their new collaboration I Don’t Care, scoring an impressive 123,825 combined sales.

It’s only the second chart-topping single this year to open with more than 100,000 combined sales – Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings debuted at Number 1 with 126,240 in January. I Don’t Care racked up 13 million streams and 22,000 downloads in the UK this week.

I Don’t Care extends Ed’s tally of Number 1s to six, and Justin’s to seven, putting the Canadian on a par with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elton John and U2 who all have seven UK chart-toppers.

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road holds at 2, and last week’s Number 1, Stormzy’s Vossi Bop, slips to 3.

Production duo Europa – comprising of Jax Jones and Martin Solveig – edge closer to the Top 10 with All Day and Night ft. Madison Beer, lifting two spots to Number 11, and Skepta lands his eleventh Top 40 entry with Greaze Mode ft. Nafe Smallz at Number 22. The track features on the rapper’s upcoming album Ignorance Is Bliss, out on May 31.

Further down, Ellie Goulding’s Sixteen hops six places to a new peak at 25, James Arthur’s new single Falling Like The Stars opens at Number 34, earning him an eleventh Top 40 hit, and Motorola by Da Beatfreakz ft. Swarmz & Deno is new at 35.

Finally, Mark Ronson’s Late Night Feelings ft. Lykki Li makes its first Top 40 appearance, leaping eight places to Number 39.

Days Gone still stands at the top of the gaming charts

May 13th, 2019

Days Gone has been sitting at the top of the UK physical game charts for a while now, and as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Bend Studio’s game is still there when looking at last week’s sales, one of the slowest weeks all year in fact.

The top six are the exact same as last week, meaning Mortal Kombat 11 is in second place once more, followed by FIFA 19, Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. What’s more surprising, however, is that 12,500 units separated Days Gone from number 40 on the list.

Saints Row: The Third’s Full Package edition on Switch didn’t manage to make it into the top 10, shifting enough units to put it at 15, although we’re still seeing Nintendo represented elsewhere with New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at eight and 10 respectively.

For the full top 10 list look down below. When will Days Gone fall?

1. Days Gone / Sony
2. Mortal Kombat 11 / Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
3. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
4. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
5. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
7. The Division 2 / Ubisoft
8. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe / Nintendo
9. Forza Horizon 4 / Microsoft
10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate / Nintendo
