Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain tops the gaming chart

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has infiltrated the top of the all-format gaming chart.

It’s the third biggest launch of the year so far – behind Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3 – and the biggest Metal Gear game in terms of week-one sales, beating Guns of Liberty by nearly 37%.

The Phantom Pain, which made 72% of sales on PS4, compared to 22% on Xbox One, is also the first Metal Gear game to top the chart since 2008’s Guns of the Patriots.

Fellow new entry Mad Max has to settle for second, ahead of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which drops to third.

Elsewhere, Until Dawn drops two places to four, above Disney Infinity 3.0, GTA 5 and LEGO Jurassic World.

A Minecraft double-header and Batman: Arkham Knight complete the top ten.
