Man of Steel has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.
The Henry Cavill-led Superman reboot grossed £11.2 million, making it the second-biggest opening bow of 2013 behind Iron Man 3. Its opening day takings on June 14 were the biggest of the year so far.
“We’re thrilled at the tremendous response we’ve seen from audiences to Zack Snyder’s exciting new vision of the iconic superhero,” said Josh Berger, president and managing director, Warner Bros UK and Ireland.
“Man of Steel has proven to be the must-see film of the summer.”
Man of Steel‘s total easily outpaces the opening for the franchise’s previous instalment Superman Returns, which bowed to £4.34 million in 2006.
