Drake sees off Calvin Harris, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake to claim a fifth week at Number 1

Friday, May 13th, 2016

It may be Friday the 13th, but Drake definitely has luck on his side as he claims a fifth week at Number 1 with One Dance.

Despite strong competition from Calvin Harris’s This Is What You Came For, feat. Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake’s surprise release Can’t Stop The Feeling, Drake notched up an impressive 123,500 combined chart sales to hold on to the top spot.

The Canadian rapper has been having a great week when it comes to streaming, too. While he doesn’t quite match the new record he set last week with 8.9 million listens, One Dance has racked up 8.37 million plays over the last seven days.

Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s This Is What You Came For settles for another week at Number 2, and Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling, taken from the soundtrack for upcoming movie Trolls, is new at 3.

Sia’s Cheap Thrills slips a place to 4, while the former Number 1 from Mike Posner, I Took A Pill In Ibiza, continues its comedown, falling one spot to round off our Top 5.

Not satisfied with dominating the Top 2, Drake and Rihanna have teamed up for a new entry, with Too Good, taken from Drake’s chart-topping album Views, rising 18 places to Number 23.

will.i.am scores his 39th Top 40 hit this week, with Boys & Girls feat. Pia Mia leaping 16 places to Number 26, while Cheat Codes and Kris Kross Amsterdam score their very first – Sex is new at 35.

Drake’s back again at 39, as Controlla climbs seven places, and Paradise, from Benny Benassi feat. Chris Brown rises four to 40.

Drake beats Calvin Harris and Rihanna to Number 1

Friday, May 6th, 2016

It’s another big week for Drake on the Official Singles Chart, as One Dance fends off some strong competition to continue its lead at Number 1.

The track logs a fourth stint at the summit this week, holding off a challenge from Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s collaboration This Is What You Came For, new at Number 2.

And the love for One Dance is going anywhere yet: this week the song racks up 141,000 chart sales – it’s biggest one-week total yet. It also sets a new one-week streaming record, notching up a massive 8.95 million streams over the last week, beating his own record set last week.

Meanwhile, Calvin and Rihanna’s This Is What You Came For settles for second place with 107,000 combined sales, earning Calvin his 20th Top 10 single. See his full Official Chart history here.

The rest of this week’s Top 5 is made up of Sia’s Cheap Thrills at 3, Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza at 4, and Fifth Harmony’s Work From Home at 5.

Production duo Galantis earn their third Top 10 this week with No Money, climbing four places to Number 8, Beyonce’s Hold Up moves six spots to Number 11, and DJ Snake’s Middle ft. Bipolar Sunshine lifts six spots to 12.

There are three more big climbers on this week’s Official Singles Chart: Desiigner’s Panda vaults ten places to 15, Drake’s Pop Style is up 25 spots to 34, and Nick Jonas’ Close ft. Tove Lo makes its Top 40 debut, up six to 39.

Mike Posner spends a second week at No.1

Friday, March 25th, 2016

Mike Posner has spent a second week at number 1 in the singles chart with ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’.

The American singer comfortably retained the position after knocking Lukas Graham off the top of the chart last week by the closest margin in nearly a decade.

This week Posner beats the Danish band by a comfortable 11,000 sales, compared with 261 last week.

“To be number 1 in the UK is quite an honour,” Posner told OfficialCharts.com. “It’s very flattering to know this many people are listening to my music and enjoying it enough to give me money for it!

Lukas Graham’s ‘Seven’ stays at number 2, while Fifth Harmony’s ‘Work From Home’ rises to number 3, matching the peak of their single ‘Worth It’ last year.

Zara Larsson’s ‘Lush Life’ also rises a place to number 4, while Sigala’s ‘Say You Do’ completes the Top 5.

Sia got her eighth Top 10 hit with ‘Cheap Thrills’, jumping to number 8 from 16, while  Tinie Tempah and Zara Larsson’s ‘Girls Like’ moves up from 10 to 9.

Mike Posner is the new Number 1

Friday, March 18th, 2016

Lukas Graham have lost their number one crown by a thread.

Mike Posner’s ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ has stolen the top spot from ‘7 Years’ in a last minute overnight jolt.

In fact, there were only 261 combined sales between the two singles, making it the closest chart race of the year.

It’s also the narrowest margin between the Top 2 since 2007, when Timbaland and Keri Hilson’s ‘The Way I Are’ beat Kate Nash’s’ ‘Foundations’ to number one by just 16 copies.

Meanwhile, Zara Larsson’s ‘Lush Life’ climbs a spot to number three as Fifth Harmony’s ‘Work From Home’ leaps seven spots to four, and Rihanna’s ‘Work’ completes the Top 5.

Ariana Grande scores this week’s highest new entry with ‘Dangerous Woman’ entering at 17, while Selena Gomez’s ‘Hands To Myself’ climbs 11 places to 21.

Finally, Zayn has scored his second solo Top 40 with ‘Like I Would’ swooping straight in at 30.
