Mark Ronson retains No.1 single with ‘Uptown Funk’

Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ has retained the UK’s number one single.

The producer, who also topped the albums charts this week with Uptown Special, marked his sixth non-consecutive week at number one with the track.

‘Uptown Funk’ was streamed over 2.56 million times, beating its own record set earlier in January.

Ronson is the first act to conquer both charts simultaneously since Miley Cyrus, who topped the singles chart with ‘Wrecking Ball’ and the albums chart with Bangerz in October 2013.

Meghan Trainor’s ‘Lips Are Movin’ climbs 48 places to number two, while Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ stays at number three.

‘I Wish You Were Mine’ by Philip George moves to four, and ‘Up’ by Olly Murs featuring Demi Lovato rounds off the top five selling tracks of the week.

Avicii lands at number eight with ‘The Nights’, which gives the artist his seventh UK top 10 single.

US band Echosmith’s ‘Cool Kid’ climbs to number 17.

Taken 3 holds off American Sniper at UK box office

Taken 3 has topped the UK box office for the second consecutive weekend.

Liam Neeson’s action-thriller earned £3.2 million to secure first place in the chart, with Bradley Cooper’s American Sniper in second spot with a debut haul of £2.5 million.

Despite Sniper‘s huge success Stateside, UK audiences have been less welcoming to Clint Eastwood’s war drama. The film narrowly pipped The Theory of Everything, on its third week in cinemas, to second place.

Into the Woods sits at number four, while Paddington continues its impressive box office run by charting at five after two months on general release.

Elsewhere, the chart sees new entries from Whiplash, Wild and the live broadcast of Met Opera’s The Merry Widow.

GTA 5 celebrates six weeks atop the all-format sales chart

GTA 5 has retained its place at the top of the all-format sales chart.

After returning to the top of the chart last week, Rockstar’s open-world action game comfortably remains number one for its sixth week overall.

It is followed by FIFA 15, which overtakes Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to take second.

Far Cry 4 remains fourth, above Minecraft: Xbox Edition in fifth and The Crew in sixth.

Minecraft: PlayStation Edition, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Destiny and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham also chart in the top ten.

Elsewhere, Watch Dogs re-enters at 12, Football Manager 2015 at 17 and Alien Isolation at 20.

‘Uptown Funk’ claims fifth week at number 1

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s ‘Uptown Funk’ has claimed its fifth non-consecutive week at number one on the Official Singles Chart.

The song has now tallied the most weeks at the top of the charts since the release of Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ in 2013.

Philip George’s ‘Wish You Were Mine’, which samples Stevie Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’, remains at number two this week, while Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’ climbs two places into number three.

Olly Murs and Demi Lovato’s ‘Up’ holds onto its number four position, while Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ completes the top five, having fallen two spots since last week.

Sia is a new entry with ‘Elastic Heart’, entering at number 13. The track features on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, while the video, which stars Shia LaBeouf and Maddie Ziegler, was released earlier this month.

Swedish DJ and producer Avicii wins his ninth UK top 40 single this week with ‘The Nights’, which enters at number 16.

Meanwhile, Jeremih’s ‘Don’t Tell ‘Em’, which features YG, re-enters the top 40 at number 32, and Lilly Wood and Robin Schulz’s ‘Prayer in C’ is another re-entry at number 38.

FIFA 15 named the best-selling game of 2014 in the UK

FIFA 15 has been named the best-selling game of 2014 in the UK, followed by Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Grand Theft Auto 5.

The figures, published by MCV, indicate that Ubisoft claimed more spaces in the top 100 than any other publisher, releasing 12 of the year’s biggest sellers.

Electronic Arts, which also secured the number seven slot with FIFA 14, came second with nine games in the top 100.

Nine games on the chart were original properties, with Destiny the best-selling new brand of the year in fourth, and Watch Dogs biting at its heels in fifth.

There were a few surprises in store as DriveClub emerged as the best-selling PS4 exclusive and managed to outsell Xbox rival Forza Horizon, despite being plagued by technical issues at launch.

Alien Isolation and Dragon Age Inquisition were notable absentees from the top 30, ranking at 34 and 35 respectively.

The chart data was based on sales figures for boxed products only, compiled by Chart-Track and UKIE.

Taken 3 tops UK box-office ahead of Into The Woods

Taken 3 has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The Liam Neeson-led action movie earned £6.7 million to take first place, easily outpacing Disney’s adaptation of musical Into the Woods.

The latter debuted to £2.47m, just outpacing awards-tipped Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Paddington round out the top five.

Elsewhere, the only other new release to enter the top ten was Foxcatcher. The sports drama, starring Channing Tatum and Steve Carell, pulled in £877,408 to chart at number six.

GTA 5 returns to top of sales chart

GTA 5 has returned to the top of the UK all-format sales chart.

Despite breaking countless sales records, Rockstar’s open-world action game tops the chart for only its fifth week in total, one less than Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in second.

FIFA 15 follows in third, while Far Cry 4, The Crew and Assassin’s Creed Unity occupy four, five and six.

Unity is one of three Assassin’s Creed games in the top 20, with Black Flag re-entering at 11 thanks to a spike in bundle sales.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue props up the chart at 20, below Super Smash Bros and Dragon’s Age Inquisition.

‘Uptown Funk’ remains number one

Mark Ronson has retained the number one spot in the singles chart with ‘Uptown Funk’.

The track, featuring Bruno Mars, is spending its fourth non-consecutive week at number one and has been streamed 2.43 million times in the past week.

Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ currently holds the streaming record with 2.56 million streams in one week.

Philip George stays at number two for the second week with ‘Wish You Were Mine’, and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ holds onto the number three spot, its 29th week in the UK singles chart to date.

Olly Murs and Demi Lovato’s duet ‘Up’ moves two places to fourth spot.

Completing this week’s top five singles is Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’, which rises five places.

The only new top ten entry this week is ‘Promesses’ from Tchami, featuring Kaleem Taylor. It is the French DJ’s first UK top 40 entry.

Outside the top ten, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s ‘Only One’ leaps from number 35 to number 28, and Beyonce’s ‘7/11′ re-enters the top 40 at number 33.

Meanwhile, Brits Critics’ Choice winner James Bay leaps 44 places to number 36 with ‘Hold Back the River’.

US band Echosmith land their first UK top 40 hit with ‘Cool Kids’, entering the chart at 39.

The Theory of Everything beats The Hobbit at UK box office

The Theory of Everything has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

The Eddie Redmayne-led Stephen Hawking biopic earned £3.7 million to secure first place ahead of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Co-starring Felicity Jones as Hawking’s first wife Jane, the film follows Hawking’s university romance and his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The Hobbit finale, which has now surpassed £36 million in lifetime grosses in the UK, sits in second place ahead of Paddington. The family movie has now earned more than £30 million in the UK, marking an impressive haul for the StudioCanal release.

New release The Woman in Black: Angel of Death and Exodus: Gods and Kings round out the top five.

Elsewhere, Michael Keaton’s Birdman debuts at number seven with £1.5 million.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remains top-selling game

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has topped the all-format gaming chart for its sixth week.

Activision’s first-person shooter has now topped the game chart for one week more than its predecessor Call of Duty: Ghosts.

It is once again followed by Grand Theft Auto 5 in second and FIFA 15 in third. The top three games experienced respective weekly sales drops of 51%, 48% and 57%.

A Ubisoft triple-bill of Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed Unity and The Crew chart at four, five and six, while Destiny and WWE 2K15 follow at seven and eight.

Driveclub and Minecraft: Xbox Edition complete this week’s top ten.

Elsewhere, Wii U exclusive Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is this week’s only new entry, debuting at 16.
