San Andreas tops the UK box office

June 3rd, 2015

San Andreas has rocked the UK box office with takings of £4.6m.

The Dwayne Johnson-led disaster film knocks Pitch Perfect 2 off the top spot and down to number two with £1.8m.

Mad Max: Fury Road, Tomorrowland: A World Beyond and Avengers: Age of Ultron complete the top 5.

Elsewhere, Simon Pegg’s romantic comedy Man Up is new in at number seven with £529k, while Al Pacino’s Danny Collins is also new at number ten with £225k.

Splatoon is the biggest-selling new franchise on Wii U

Splatoon is the fifth fastest-selling game on Wii U and replaces Zombi U as the biggest-selling new franchise.

Unfortunately for Nintendo, however, it fails to dislodge The Witcher 3 from the top of the all-format gaming chart.

Despite a 69% week-on-week drop in sales, The Witcher 3 remains first, ahead of the aforementioned Splatoon in second and GTA 5 in third.

A 51% hike in sales sees FIFA 15 remain fourth, above Farming Simulator 15, Battlefield Hardline, Project Cars and Destiny.

Mortal Kombat X and Minecraft: Xbox Edition complete this week’s top ten.

Jason Derulo debuts at number 1 in UK singles chart

Jason Derulo has claimed his fourth UK number one single with ‘Want to Want Me’.

The new single debuts straight in the top spot with a combined chart sales figure of over 127,000 in the past seven days.

Derulo previously topped the charts with ‘In My Head’ (2010), ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ (2011) and ‘Talk Dirty’ (2013).

He said: “I just want to say thank you to all the fans for giving me this tremendous pleasure. It never ever gets old. Honestly, it feels just as good every time, if not better!

“I worked really hard on this album for about eight months, so to begin like this with a bang is a real blessing.”

Last week’s number one ‘Cheerleader’ (Felix Jaehn Remix) by OMI moves down to two, while ‘Where Are U Now’ by Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber climbs two places to number three.

Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’ featuring Charlie Puth moves down to four, as Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ featuring Kendrick Lamar takes number five.

Martin Garrix scores his third UK top 10 single with ‘Don’t Look Down’ featuring Usher at number nine, and ‘Heroes’ by Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw debuts in the chart at 11.

Jessie J’s Pitch Perfect 2 song ‘Flashlight’ climbs 25 places to number 14, while Charles Hamilton and Rita Ora are at 30 with ‘New York Raining’.

Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ takes number 39 and Avicii’s ‘The Nights’ is at 40.

Pitch Perfect 2 retains UK box office lead

Pitch Perfect 2 has hit the right note for a second week running at the UK box office.

The sequel retained the top spot in a closely-fought battle with Mad Max: Fury Road, with just £25,500 separating the two.

George Clooney’s Tomorrowland failed to challenge the pair, entering third with £1.5 million. Horror remake Poltergeist opened fourth after taking £1.46 million.

A third new entry in the top 10 comes from Tanu Weds Manu Returns, with the Indian romantic comedy-drama taking almost £175,000 to finish ninth.

Witcher 3 is the biggest launch of the year so far…

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the biggest release of the year so far and the latest game to top the all-format weekly chart.

The Witcher 3 outperformed the year’s previous biggest-selling week one title, Battlefield Hardline, by 53%, and has sold 608% more week one copies than its 2012 predecessor.

The Witcher 3 sold 63% of all its copies on PS4, compared to 32% on Xbox One and only 5% on PC.

It is followed by Farming Simulator 15 in second, which re-enters the chart after launching on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

With 5 million UK sales, GTA 5 remains in third, followed by a resurgent FIFA 15 at four and Project Cars at five.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Battlefield Hardline and Mortal Kombat X follow at six, seven and eight, while Call of Duty: Advance Warfare and Destiny complete the top ten.

OMI gets UK number 1 single for a fourth week

OMI has secured the number one spot in the UK singles chart for the fourth week running with ‘Cheerleader’.

The track faced off competition from Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’, which moves up one place to number two.

LunchMoney Lewis’s ‘Bills’ holds third place, while Taylor Swift scores the highest new entry of the week with ‘Bad Blood’ featuring Kendrick Lamar at number four.

The top five is completed by ‘Where Are U Now’ by Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber.

Lower down, David Guetta’s ‘Hey Mama’ featuring Nicki Minaj climbs from number 17 to 10, and Ella Eyre’s ‘Together’ is a new entry at number 12.

Andie Case makes her UK top 40 debut, with her Jason Derulo cover/mashup ‘Want to Want Me/I Want You to Want Me’ landing at number 24.

Sheppard are new at number 36 with ‘Geronimo’, while Jessie J gets her 16th top 40 hit with ‘Flashlight’ from the Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack.

Pitch Perfect 2 beats Mad Max at UK box office

Pitch Perfect 2 put in a winning performance to top the UK box office.

The Anna Kendrick sequel pulled in more than £5 million over the weekend to edge out Mad Max: Fury Road, which took £4.5 million.

Avengers: Age of Ultron drops to third with £1.6 million. The figure brings its total earnings past the £43 million mark in the UK.

Spooks: The Greater Good and Far from the Madding Crowd round out the top five.

Project Cars remains Britain’s top-selling game

Project Cars has once again finished ahead of its rivals to claim the UK all-format top spot.

The racing simulation is Bandai Namco’s first consecutive chart topper since Ridge Racer 4 16 years ago. Namco has a chance to make it three weeks at the top with the imminent release of The Witcher 3.

It’s followed by Bethesda’s standalone Wolfenstein expansion, which is this week’s biggest-selling new release.

Making its retail debut after previously launching digitally, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood enters in second, with a 67% share on PS4.

GTA 5 and Mortal Kombat X chart at three and four, while Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster re-enters at five after making its PS4 debut.

FIFA 15, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Dying Light, Destiny and Battlefield Hardline complete the top ten.

OMI tops the UK singles chart for a third week running

OMI has topped the UK singles chart for the third week in a row with ‘Cheerleader’.

Despite the song trailing LunchMoney Lewis’s ‘Bills’ in the midweek chart, ‘Cheerleader’ ended up more than 11,000 combined chart sales ahead and was the most streamed track of the week, chalking up nearly 3.16 million listens.

‘Bills’ settles for second place, becoming the week’s highest new entry and the most purchased track of the last seven days.

Last week’s number two, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’, falls into third place, while Swedish producer duo Galantis leap up the chart to reach number four with ‘Runaway (U & I)’.

Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On’, which features MO and DJ Snake, retains fifth spot.

The only other new entry in this week’s top 40 is David Guetta’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Afrojack, ‘Hey Mama’. The track climbs 30 places to reach number 17.

Avengers see off Spooks at UK box-office

Avengers: Age of Ultron has triumphed at the UK box office for the third consecutive weekend.

The Marvel sequel has fended off competition from Spooks: The Greater Good with takings of £3.51m, while Kit Harington’s spy film earned £1.01m.

Far from the Madding Crowd slips to third spot in its second week of release with £833,804, while Unfriended drops one place to four with £662,622.

There are new entries from The Age of Adaline and Big Game at five and seven respectively.

Fast & Furious 7, Home and Cinderella also feature in this week’s Top 10.
