Camila Cabello dominates the Official Singles Chart for a second week

November 10th, 2017

Camila Cabello’s Havana has enjoyed its best sales week yet to sit atop the Official Singles Chart for a second straight week.

The track, which features Young Thug easily claims second week at Number 1, finishing 10,000 combined chart sales ahead of its closest competitor, Post Malone and 21 Savage’s Rockstar. Despite finishing in the runner-up slot this week, Rockstar claims this week’s most streamed song.

Celebrating the news with Official Charts at this week’s Music Industry Trusts Award, she said: “I’m beyond over the moon. I’m so happy. I’m so excited! You have to celebrate things like this because you never know if it’s going to happen again.”

Meanwhile, Sam Smith’s Too Good at Goodbyes rises four spots to Number 3 following the release of his Number 1 album The Thrill Of It All, while Marshmello and Khalid drop a spot to Number 4 with Silence.

Rounding out the Top 5 is Rita Ora’s Anywhere. Following a performance on The X Factor, the song becomes Rita’s eleventh Top 10 smash, climbing six places to Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

Big Shaq’s Man’s Not Hot vaults nine places to Number 11, it’s highest position to date, ahead of fellow Grime artist Dave at Number 18; No Words featuring Mostack is a new entry at Number 18. Another song from Dave’s new EP Game Over titled How I Met My Ex is also new at Number 32.

Havana reaches Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart

November 3rd, 2017

Congratulations to Camila Cabello who has scored her very first UK solo Number 1 single.

Havana featuring Young Thug eventually rises to the top following three consecutive weeks held up in the Number 2 spot. Havana ended up just shy of 4,000 combined chart sales ahead of Post Malone’s Rockstar, ending its four-week residency at Number 1.

Camila told OfficialCharts.com: “I am so excited to be Number 1 in the UK! I can’t believe it! Thank you to my amazing fans for always supporting me – WE DID IT! I am so grateful.”

Camila’s previous career peak was Number 2 – Work From Home by Fifth Harmony claimed runner-up status in April 2016. Havana recently became the Cuban-born star’s fourth UK Top 40 hit and her first Top 10 entry as a soloist.

Post Malone and 21 Savage’s Rockstar slips a slot to Number 2 this week on the Official Singles Chart, ahead of a non-mover in Marshmello and Khalid’s Silence (3). Avicii and Rita Ora’s Lonely Together holds firm at Number 4, ahead of Zayn & Sia’s Dusk Till Dawn, which returns to its previous peak position of Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

Charlie Puth’s How Long (9) rises eight to become his fourth UK Top 10 single following his performance on BBC One’s Sounds Like Friday Night, while Rita Ora’s Anywhere lifts nine to Number 11.

Wolves by Selena Gomez & Marshmello claims this week’s highest new entry at Number 16, two slots ahead of CamelPhat and Elderbrook’s Cola, which enters the Top 20 for the first time at Number 18. Big Shaq’s Man’s Not Hot also cracks the Top 20 for the first time, up six to Number 20.

Liam Payne’s Bedroom Floor leaps six positions to Number 22 after his debut live performance of the track on The X Factor, plus there’s a 10 place ascent for MK’s 17 to Number 26. One placing behind is Let You Down by rising American rapper NF, up 13 to Number 27.

Assassin’s Creed Origins beats out Mario and Wolfenstein

October 30th, 2017

Last week was absolutely massive in terms of new releases as we got a new sandbox Mario game, a new Assassin’s Creed and something as rare as a singleplayer-only AAA shooter in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Assassin’s Creed Origins almost sold as well as the last game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, during launch week in terms of retail unit sales, but surpassed it in terms of revenue thanks to great sales of more expensive collector’s editions. In second place was Super Mario Odyssey, though it did beat out the PS4 version of Assassin’s Creed Origins in the single SKU chart. The unit split for Assassin’s Creed Origins was 60/40 in favour of PS4.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus managed fourth place behind FIFA 18. Of course, for Assassin’s Creed, Syndicate level sales aren’t what Ubisoft are aspiring to so it remains to be seen if digital sales and word of mouth will help Origins in the long-run. As for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus dropping on the same day as Mario and Assassin’s Creed, and just the week prior to a World War II-themed Call of Duty, saw the game drop 60 percent of the predecessor first-week sales. Granted that also came out on PS3 and Xbox 360, but still, it has to be very disappointing reading for Bethesda.

As suspected Super Mario Odyssey became the biggest Switch launch to date, and in fact, it is bigger than any game launch on Wii U and Nintendo’s 6th best game launch in the UK overall. As you’d suspect a big release like that helped bump up hardware sales (+64%) as the console now sits in more than 300,000 homes in the UK (according to GamesIndustry.biz).

Ubisoft also released the latest edition of Just Dance, Just Dance 2018 and it only managed the 23rd spot in the all formats chart. Curiously it did the most business on Wii (!), just ahead of the Switch version.

All Formats:

1. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft (new)
2. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo (new)
3. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
4. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus / Bethesda (new)
5. Gran Turismo Sport / Sony
6. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
7. Destiny 2 / Activision
8. South Park: The Fractured But Whole / Ubisoft
9. Middle-earth: Shadow of War / Warner Bros.
10. WWE 2K17 / 2K Sports

Individual Formats:

1. Super Mario Odyssey / Switch (new)
2. Assassin’s Creed Origins / PS4 (new)
3. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Xbox One (new)
4. FIFA 18 / PS4
5. Gran Turismo Sport / PS4
6. FIFA 18 / Xbox One
7. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus / PS4 (new)
8. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus / Xbox One (new)
9. South Park: The Fractured But Whole / PS4
10. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4
