Grand Theft Auto V tops the gaming charts for a 15th time

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

The charts were a bit late in arriving this week, in fact, the full lists with individual formats has yet to arrive, but regardless it was another big week for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V as it scored its 15th (!) number one since launching just under five years ago. In second place was new release from Big Ben Interactive, TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge. A surprisingly strong debut was also seen from PSVR title Bravo Team as it managed third in spite of a rather negative critical reception (read our review). The boxed retail release of Life is Strange: Before the Storm came in a modest 18th, while Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition (with cheese?) landed in 31st.

All Formats:

1. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar

FIFA 18 stays on top of the gaming charts in static week for sales

Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

Sometimes the weekly retail sales news pieces we share with you are full of interesting observations, stunning debuts, and even the odd tale of games crashing and burning at retail. Sad to say, but this is not a week like that.

Simply put, the charts are largely how they were seven days ago, with the top three remaining as they were with FIFA 18 still sitting pretty in top spot, and with only subtle movement behind it (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bumped up to fourth, Metal Gear Survive tumbled out of the top ten into seventeenth, for example). So yeah, there’s not much to report, so we’ll leave you with this week’s top ten, courtesy of GfK Chart-Track, and then move onto something else…

1. FIFA 18 / EA
2. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
3. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
5. Monster Hunter: World / Capcom
6. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
7. UFC 3 / EA
8. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds / Microsoft
9. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
10. Shadow of the Colossus / Sony

Gaming charts: FIFA 18 remains at number one

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

It’s not been the most exciting weeks in terms of video game sales and it’s reflected in this week’s UK charts with FIFA 18 securing its second straight number one (six in total) ahead of the neverending sales phenomenon that is Grand Theft Auto V. Most notable is perhaps the lack of chart success that Konami’s Metal Gear Survive had this week. In spite of a low price point, it seems fans just didn’t seem all that interested in the survival co-op spin-off served up. Scoring a sixth position in the all formats chart during a slow week for new releases, with just a 13th (PS4) and a 33rd (Xbox One) position when it comes to individual SKUs, is hardly what we expect from the franchise even if this isn’t a main entry. Last week’s number two, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, plummets to 12th position, not unexpected given its somewhat niche nature. The other new release to chart this week was Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet from Bandai Namco, which managed a 37th spot in the all formats chart. It’s also worth noting that PS4 and Switch dominate software sales currently, with Xbox One only managing a 10th spot in the individual chart for its best-selling title (Grand Theft Auto V).

All Formats:

1. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
2. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
3. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
4. Monster Hunter: World / Capcom
5. UFC 3 / EA Sports
6. Metal Gear Survive / Konami (new)
7. Shadow of the Colossus / Sony
8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
9. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
10. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft

Individual Formats (units):

1. FIFA 18 / PS4
2. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4
3. Shadow of the Colossus / PS4
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Switch
5. Call of Duty: WWII / PS4
6. FIFA 18 / Switch
7. Super Mario Odyssey / Switch
8. Monster Hunter: World / PS4
9. Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy / PS4
10. Grand Theft Auto V / Xbox One

FIFA 18 is back on top of the UK gaming charts

Monday, February 19th, 2018

On the back of a price reduction, sales of the Nintendo Switch version of FIFA 18 enjoyed a massive boost last week, which in turn helped the game to the top of the UK retail charts once again. The price cut across retail and digital proved too tempting for a lot of people, and at retail alone the game saw a huge 494% increase in sales. That said, the PS4 version remains the best-selling version of the game.

Last week’s best-seller, Shadow of the Colossus, took a tumble down to seventh on the back of a 72% sales drop, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance landed in second despite mixed reviews. Bayonetta 2’s Switch release saw the wicked witch chart just inside the top five, while last week’s other big debut, Dynasty Warriors 9, couldn’t make the top ten and was the 13th best-selling game at UK retailers last week. Beyond that, Secret of Mana: Remake debuted in 24th and Monster Energy Supercross squeezed in just behind in 25th.

Here’s the GfK Chart-Track top ten in full:

1. FIFA 18 / EA
2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance / Deep Silver
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
4. Monster Hunter World / Capcom
5. Bayonetta 2 / Nintendo
6. UFC 3 / EA
7. Shadow of the Colossus / Sony
8. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
10. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft

Shadow of the Colossus claims number the one game

Monday, February 12th, 2018

There’s something both new and old at the top of this week’s UK Chart-track rankings. The remade Shadow of the Colossus managed the same feat as its PS2 original (back in week 7, 2006) laying claim to the first spot in the charts. Monster Hunter: World fell from first to third, while UFC 3 is doing decent numbers in its second week. Elsewhere it should be noted that both Mario titles continue to do really well, indicating that hardware sales for Switch are very healthy.

All Formats (all prices):

1. Shadow of the Colossus / Sony (new)
2. EA Sports UFC 3 / EA Sports
3. Monster Hunter: World / Capcom
4. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
5. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
6. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
8. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
9. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft
10. The Evil Within 2 / Bethesda

Individual Formats (units):

1. Shadow of the Colossus / PS4 (new)
2. EA Sports UFC 3 / PS4
3. Monster Hunter: World / PS4
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Switch
5. Super Mario Odyssey / Switch
6. EA Sports UFC 3 / Xbox One
8. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4
9. Monster Hunter: World / Xbox One
10. Crash Bandicoot: NSane Trilogy / PS4

Monster Hunter: World edges out UFC 3 in the UK gaming charts

Monday, February 5th, 2018

Monster Hunter: World has made it two weeks on the bounce and was once again the best-selling game at retailers up and down the UK. Capcom’s open-world adventure clung onto first place after a strong challenge from UFC 3, with EA’s fighting game replicating the performance of its predecessor, which also debuted in second place back in 2016 (behind The Division, FYI).

Beyond that, there’s not a huge amount to tell you about in terms of chart movement, other than the fact that this week’s other major debut was Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, which scraped into this week’s GfK Chart-Track multi-format top ten, as you can see below.

1. Monster Hunter: World / Capcom
2. UFC 3 / EA
3. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
4. FIFA 18 / EA
5. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
6. Dragon Ball FighterZ / Bandai Namco
7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
8. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
9. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT / Square Enix
10. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo

Monster Hunter is on top of the World/UK gaming charts

Monday, January 29th, 2018

It’s been a week of firsts for Capcom when it comes to UK retail, with the Monster Hunter series scoring its first top spot in the GfK Chart-Track top ten. It’s also the first time that we’ve seen a synchronised worldwide release for the series, with World also eclipsing the previous best set by the 3DS-only Monster Hunter Generations (which debuted in third) back in 2016. It also marks one year since the publisher enjoyed its last chart-topping success, which came with Resident Evil 7. January is turning into a good month for the company.

Only one game can finish on top, but Dragon Ball FighterZ still managed to beat the previous best set by a game in the series (Dragon Ball Xenoverse charted in third back in 2015, although sales for both games were pretty similar). The other debuting title this week was PSVR title The Inpatient, which snuck into the top ten, as you can see below:

1. Monster Hunter: World / Capcom
2. Dragon Ball FighterZ / Bandai Namco
3. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
4. FIFA 18 / EA
5. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
7. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
8. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds / Microsoft
9. Rocket League / Warner Bros.
10. The Inpatient / Sony

Call of Duty: WWII gets back to the top spot

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018

Last week Grand Theft Auto V claimed yet another first place spot in the weekly UK charts, and now it’s been pushed back to number three as another game returns to the top spot after a period of absence, Activision’s Call of Duty: WWII, which sat just behind Rockstar’s game in second place last week.

Elsewhere, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds stays in sixth place, and FIFA 18 jumps to second, (perhaps inspired partly by the January transfer window?), with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe also having its own climb from fifth place to fourth.

You can check out the full top 10 list down below:

1. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
2. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
6. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds / Microsoft
7. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft
8. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
9. Star Wars Battlefront II / EA Games
10. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory / Bandai Namco

Will Call of Duty stay on top for a while?

Grand Theft Auto V returns to the top of the gaming charts

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

This week’s UK retail charts are in (though they’ve yet to be officially released in all their glory on the website, hence we don’t have the individual formats chart), and it is a familiar game that once again rises to the top as 2018 releases have yet to show up. Grand Theft Auto V was originally released back in September of 2013, but clearly, with many people picking up new consoles for Christmas, it is one of the first games new console owners buy for PS4 and Xbox One.

Call of Duty: WWII came in second, while FIFA 18 managed third. Interestingly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild rank above Super Mario Odyssey indicating they are the top choices for fresh Switch owners.

All Formats:

1. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
2. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
3. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
4. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
6. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds / Microsoft
7. Star Wars Battlefront II / EA Games
8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
9. Forza Motorsport 7 / Microsoft
10. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo

FIFA 18 is back on top of the UK gaming charts

Monday, January 8th, 2018

The latest UK retail charts are in, and there has been a bit of movement at the top. It would seem as though many of you are feeling optimistic about the second half of the season as lots of people splashed out on FIFA 18 last week, which is once again top of the league. It displaces Call of Duty: WWII which only managed nine weeks at the top, equalling the franchise’s previous best (which, for the record, was Modern Warfare II).

Before you go, GfK shared an interesting little factoid this morning. With GTAV climbing back up to third, the stat-gatherers pointed out that the game is still selling well four years (!) after its initial launch on PS3 and Xbox 360. That’s 225 weeks in the charts, where it has never been outside of the top forty. Even more impressive, in 191 out 225 weeks that position has been inside the top ten. Impressive stuff.

And now, without further ado, here is this week’s top ten courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track.

All Formats:

1. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
2. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
4. Assassin’s Creed Origins / Ubisoft
5. Star Wars Battlefront II / EA Games
6. The Sims 4 / EA Games
7. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds / Microsoft
8. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
9. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
10. Forza Motorsport 7 / Microsoft
