‘The Hobbit’ tops Christmas UK box-office

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has topped the box office for the third consecutive weekend.

Topping the Christmas chart for 2014, Peter Jackson’s Hobbit finale grossed £4.2 million, taking its UK total to over £28m.

Christian Bale and Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods & Kings opened in second place with takings of £2.6m.

Paddington dropped to third with £2.5m, while the Annie remake opened at four with £2.3m.

Elsewhere, Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken entered at seventh place with takings of £656,000.

The Hobbit stays on top at UK box office

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has topped the box office for the second consecutive weekend.

Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth farewell grossed £5.4 million to take its running total in the UK past the £20 million mark.

Paddington retained its place at number two ahead of new releases Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and comedy sequel Dumb and Dumber To.

Penguins of Madagascar rounds out the top five, while Bollywood film PK debuts at number seven.

Elsewhere, the festive-themed Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? and Get Santa both hold onto their spots in the top ten with holidays approaching.

‘The Hobbit’ takes UK box-office No.1 slot

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has debuted at the top of the UK box office chart.

The final instalment in Peter Jackson’s trilogy has knocked Paddington from the number 1 position, taking £9,753,642 over the weekend.

Paddington – which has earned over £14 million since its opening in late November – fell to second place, knocking The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 into third, animated spinoff Penguins of Madagascar into fourth and Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game into fifth.

The third Hunger Games film Mockingjay: Part 1 took £1,089,989 over the weekend, bringing its total gross to over £27 million since its November 21 release.

Disney animation Tinkerbell and the Legend of the NeverBeast was the only other new entry in the chart at seven, with a gross of £395,454.

Bill Murray comedy St Vincent and Jude Law’s Black Sea slipped from the chart after only one week.

Paddington remains UK box office No.1

Paddington has retained the UK box office top spot.

The live action adventure film has now taken £10,332,911 since its nationwide release on November 28.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 stays in second place in its third week, having now made over £25m since its November 21 release.

Animated spin-off Penguins of Madagascar is new at number three, having taken £1,575,949 in its first week of release.

Horrible Bosses 2 is down one to fifth place with a weekend total of £642,627, lagging behind Benedict Cumberbatch-led biopic The Imitation Game.

Festive comedy Get Santa debuts in seventh place with £576,722, while Bill Murray’s St Vincent and Jude Law’s Black Sea are also new in at nine and ten respectively.

Paddington topples The Hunger Games at the UK box office

Paddington has topped the UK box office in its first week of release.

The acclaimed live action adventure for Michael Bond’s beloved bear has taken £5,125,519 since its nationwide release on Friday (November 28).

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay slips to second place with a strong second-week taking, having now made over £21m since its November 21 release.

The week’s other major new release Horrible Bosses 2 debuts at fourth place with a weekend total of £1,257,808, lagging behind Benedict Cumberbatch-led biopic The Imitation Game.

Art documentary Hockney debuted in eighth place with £161,163.

The re-release of Disney’s smash hit Frozen, a year on from its original debut, pulled in an impressive £177,859 in seventh place.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 tops UK box-office

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has stormed to the top of the UK box office in its first weekend of release.

The latest instalment in the franchise, based on the dystopian novels by Suzanne Collins, has earned £12,654,109 since its release on Friday.

Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game held second place in its second week of release, with earnings of £2,129,053.

Last week’s box office topper, Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic Interstellar, falls to number three this week with takings of £1,895,368, while family comedy Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? drops one place to number four with £1,544,804 taken over the weekend.

Mr. Turner drops to number five in its fourth week of release, taking £356,743.

Chaar Sahibzaade makes its UK box office debut at number 10, taking in £129,328.

Interstellar retains UK box office top spot

Interstellar has held on to the number one spot at the UK box office for a second week.

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi adventure earned £3.7 million, holding off The Imitation Game which debuts at number two with £2.7 million.

Christmas feel-good Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? takes £1.8 million in its debut week at the third spot, while Mr Turner claims number four.

Tom Hardy’s The Drop debuts at number five with £637,867, as Gone Girl slips to six with £454,488.

Horror Ouija rounds off this week’s box office top ten with £308,516.

Interstellar tops UK box office

Interstellar has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The Christopher Nolan-directed sci-fi epic earned £5.3 million to secure first place ahead of Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner, which pulled in an impressive £1 million on its second weekend on release.

Interstellar‘s haul is the fourth-highest UK opening in Nolan’s career, behind The Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight and Inception.

The second placed Mr Turner has now earned £2.6 million from UK cinemas, beating Vera Drake to become the most successful film of acclaimed director Leigh’s career.

Last week’s number one movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles slips to number three, while Gone Girl and Fury complete the top five.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has reclaimed the top spot of the UK box office chart.

The Michael Bay-produced blockbuster climbed back to the summit with takings of £1.42 million at the weekend.

Horror movie Ouija enters at two with £1.37m, while Brad Pitt’s Fury drops two places to three with £1.25m.

Gone Girl slips one to four with £1.06m, and The Book of Life completes the top five with £1.05m.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler opens in sixth place with £1.03m, while Timothy Spall’s Mr Turner is new at seven with £905,000.

Brad Pitt’s Fury defeats Ninja Turtles at UK box-office

Brad Pitt’s Fury has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The World War II tank thriller, directed by End of Watch‘s David Ayer, earned £2.6 million to knock the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot off the chart summit.

Fury is one of six new entries in this week’s chart, with the Guillermo del Toro-produced Book of Life the second-highest new release at number four.

The Maze Runner, which has now earned £5.8 million from UK cinemas, rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, the Steve Carell-led Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is at number seven (expanded nationwide after opening on October 10 in Scotland) followed by Bollywood film Happy New Year, rom-com Love, Rosie and horror The Babadook.
