Cher Lloyd snatches first UK No.1 with debut single ‘Swagger Jagger’

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Cher Lloyd has stomped straight to the top of the UK singles chart with her debut track ‘Swagger Jagger’.

The 18-year-old knocked fellow X Factor alumni JLS and their seventh release ‘She Makes Me Wanna’ from pole position after just one week. The Wanted‘s ‘Glad You Came’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘The A Team’ follow at three and four, while DJ Loud and Sian Evans round out the top five with ‘Louder’.

Further down the numbers, David Guetta, Taio Cruz and Ludacris boost to six from 13, as two very different acts in the shape of Nicki Minaj and Rizzle Kicks both score their best ever UK chart finishes. Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ climbs another two places to eight in its 14th week of release, while Rizzle Kicks shoot a massive 11 entries up the chart with ‘Down With The Trumpets’ at nine.

Eminem branded “evil” for depicting suicide in ‘Space Bound’ video

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Eminem has been branded “evil” by parenting groups after portraying suicide in his new music video for ‘Space Bound’.

The 38-year-old rapper premiered the promo earlier this week, which sees him have a split personality only for one half of him to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Eminem also hallucinates strangling his on-screen girlfriend, played by porn star Sasha Grey.

Parenting groups have now criticised the video for portraying violence against women and showing an extreme method of suicide.

“People who do this are really quite evil. Children are influenced by the things they see. If we feed violence, it becomes strong. Like an addiction,” a spokesperson for Mothers Against Violence told The Mirror.

“It’s all about the money with these videos. Eminem isn’t thinking about the families affected. It’s selfish – it comes to a point when selfishness becomes evil.”

Rihanna thanks ‘haters’ for ‘Man Down’ success

Rihanna performs on the 'Loud' tour

Rihanna has credited both her supporters and her critics for the success of her controversial ‘Man Down’ video on YouTube.

The Bajan star celebrated on Twitter after her latest promo, which has clocked up more than 17 million hits since its release last month, was named as the week’s most watched video on the social networking site.

‘Man Down’ depicts Rihanna shooting dead an apparent rapist in what was slammed by the Parents Television Council as a “cold, calculated execution of murder”.

A spokesperson stated at the time: “Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability.”

Rihanna previously described ‘Man Down’ as “art with a message” and argued that it reflected the realities of the “real world”.
