Sweet But Psycho scores a fourth week at Number 1

January 18th, 2019

The track logged 8 million streams and 12,000 downloads this week, finishing 30,000 combined sales ahead of her closest competition.

Celebrating her first UK chart-topper, the US singer told OfficialCharts.com:

“We are Number 1 in the UK! I can’t believe I’m saying it, and I can’t believe I’m even holding this award! I want to tell everybody that I’m working super hard in the studio for you guys to release a debut album this year for all my Avatars. I love you so much.”

Meanwhile, Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus’ Nothing Breaks Like A Heart climbs a place to a new peak at Number 2.

This week’s highest new entry goes to Sam Smith and Normani’s new collaboration, Dancing With A Stranger, at Number 4. The entry marks Smith’s ninth Top 5 single and Normani’s first as a soloist (third including her singles with Fifth Harmony).

New Super Marios Bros. U Deluxe debuts at the top spot

January 15th, 2019

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe released last week for fans of the series to either try the classic Wii U game out for the first time in this new package, or revisit it again on the Nintendo Switch. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, this seems to have made a mark on the Switch fanbase, as it has entered in at the top spot in the UK charts when it comes to physical sales.

To nobody’s surprise given the lack of enthusiasm for the console, the Wii U version of this game didn’t sell nearly as well as the Switch edition, which sold 56% higher than the original release in November 2013.

Elsewhere in the charts we see a new entry in the form of Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, coming in at number nine with 49% of sales coming from Switch players. 43% bought it on PS4, and the remaining players decided to go with Xbox One as their platform of choice.

For the full top 10 list take a look down below, which includes many of the usual suspects like FIFA 19 and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as another reappearance by Grand Theft Auto V.

With Resident Evil 2’s remake landing next week, can that top the charts?

2. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
3. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 / Activision
5. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate / Nintendo

LadBaby claims 2018’s Christmas Number 1 single: “YES MAAAATE!”

December 22nd, 2018

Congratulations to LadBaby, who claims this year’s Official Christmas Number 1 with We Built This City.

The 31-year-old YouTube sensation and dad blogger – real name Mark Hoyle – plus his wife Roxanne and two sons, recorded their own version of Starship’s 1985 hit as an ode to sausage rolls (rather than rock and roll). Proceeds from the single go to foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

LadBaby’s We Built This City shifted 75,000 combined sales this week to take the top spot, and despite a fiercely close race all week, finishes 18,500 ahead of his closest competition after a last-minute push. 93% of his sales were downloads, with the remainder made up from audio and video streams.

We Built This City is also the first novelty song to claim the festive top spot in 18 years, since Bob The Builder’s Can We Fix It? in 2000.

Celebrating with OfficialCharts.com, LadBaby said: “Thank you everybody in the UK who has got a sausage roll to the top. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 enters in at number three with sales up a whopping 175%, meaning Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been pushed all the way back to number four. Ariana Grande holds the singles top spot for a sixth week

December 14th, 2018

Ariana Grande’s smash hit thank u, next stretches its lead at the top spot to a sixth week as the battle for this year’s coveted Christmas Number 1 kicks off.

Though Grande’s closest contender Ava Max remains at Number 2 with Sweet But Psycho, she has managed to reduce the gap between the top two singles to less than 9,000 combined sales.

Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus have surged up the Top 10 and claim the most downloaded track of the week, leaping six spots to Number 4 with Nothing Breaks Like A Heart. Mariah Carey edges up a place with All I Want For Christmas Is You at 5.

Wham’s Last Christmas leaps to Number 7 – up seven from last week, while Post Malone rebounds back into the Top 10 with Sunflower ft. Swae Lee from Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse at Number 9. The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl’s yuletide classic Fairytale of New York flies eight places to Number 10.

New Entries and High Climbers

Further down the chart, Band Aid’s Do They Know Its Christmas zooms 11 placings to 15, Michael Bublé’s rendition of It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas rockets 14 spots to 16, and Ellie Goulding and Diplo are up four with Close To Me ft. Swae Lee at 17.

Smash Bros. has the Ultimate start

December 10th, 2018

While 2018 is coming to a close, that doesn’t mean that there’s a lack of big games in its final month, as this past week saw the release of Just Cause 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the latter of which has landed straight at the number one spot in the UK charts, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

Ultimate was advertised as pretty much the complete package for fans of the series, which might be part of the reason why it has smashed records (pardon the pun). It’s the fastest Switch game released to date and fastest selling game in the franchise, as sales are 302% higher than that of the Wii U game, being 233% higher than the 3DS version and 62.5% more than the Wii game too.

Rico Rodriguez isn’t left out of the top 10 though, as Just Cause 4 swoops in at number 6, with sales down 61.5% compared to Just Cause 3, breaking records to become the slowest selling game in the series too. Also, the PS4 version of this game made up 55% of the sales.

If you were looking for Darksiders III on the map, you won’t find it, because it’s slipped off from the charts entirely, adding to the disappointment around the title both in terms of critical response and sales.

For the full top 10 list look below:

1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate / Nintendo
2. Red Dead Redemption 2 / Rockstar
3. FIFA 19 / EA Sports
4. Battlefield V / EA
5. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe / Nintendo
6. Just Cause 4 / Square Enix
7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 / Activision
8. Spyro Reignited Trilogy / Activision
9. Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu / Nintendo
10. Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle / Warner Bros. Interactive

Ariana Grande extends her reign at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with thank u, next on to a fifth week, setting a new streaming record.

The track notched up a massive 14.9 million streams this week, 7.9 million of which were from its music video, released last week. It’s the highest number of plays in a week in UK chart history, overtaking Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which racked up 14.2 million streams in a single week last year.

This week’s highest new entry goes to X Factor champion Dalton Harris, whose winner’s single The Power Of Love ft. James Arthur debuts at Number 4.

December 3rd, 2018

Right now is a tough time to be in the UK video game charts, as Red Dead Redemption 2 is still selling strong and being bolstered by the launch of its Online beta, but that hasn’t stopped FIFA 19 from reclaiming the top spot and pushing Rockstar’s goliath into second place.

It’s more bad news for Fallout 76 too, as following on from a number of controversies – from the quality of the bag in the Power Armour edition to the game’s technical performance – Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic outing slips out of the top 10 into number 11. Battlefield V, however, hangs onto the fourth place position, and for the full top 10 you can look below.

6. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy / Activision
7. Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! / Nintendo
