The Chainsmokers end Justin Bieber’s singles chart reign

Friday, September 2nd, 2016

Congratulations to The Chainsmokers and Halsey, who have scored their first ever number one single with ‘Closer’.

The song knocked Justin Bieber and Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ off the top spot after finishing the week with 80,000 chart sales. Biebs racked upĀ five weeks at number one before being dethroned.

The American duo told OfficialCharts.com: “Well this is awesome ’cause I (Alex) have a lot of family in the UK that don’t have a clue what I have been doing for the last 10 years so this will make waves during the holidays this year.

“But in all seriousness this is an amazing achievement for us. We are beyond grateful at all the support from our UK fans and radio stations; as a relatively new artist, it means a lot to us and gives us a lot of confidence in the music we have coming up!”

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s ‘Let Me Love You’ stays at 2, while Bieber and Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ drops two spots to 3, despite being the most streamed song of the last week.

Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ is at 4 and Twenty One Pilots’ ‘Heathens’ rounds out the top 5.

Outside the top 5, Tieks and Dan Harkna’s ‘Sunshine’ climbs eight places to 15, while LVNDSCAPE and Bolier’s remix of Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’ is up to 20.
