Overwatch conquers all at UK retail

Friday, June 3rd, 2016

Overwatch has become Blizzard’s fasting selling console title in the UK, in the process beating the console versions of Diablo III. Nearly half of sales were on PS4 (47%), with the remainder split between Xbox One (36%) and PC (18%). When it came to individual formats Overwatch dominated, with all three versions of the game inside the top five (PS4 in 1st, Xbox One in 3rd, and PC in 5th).

The only other top ten debutant of note is Total War: Warhammer, although the retail edition of Creative Assembly’s fantasy strategy game only made it as far as 9th (or 8th in the individual format chart). However, that won’t worry Sega too much with the title breaking franchise records thanks to very strong digital sales (more on that here).

Elsewhere Ratchet & Clank enjoyed resurgent sales (up 114%) after it was among the games bundled with hardware by retailers across the country. FIFA 16 (up 91%), The Division (up 42%), and Grand Theft Auto V (up 49%) were also included in various promotions.

Finally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Manhattan didn’t make it out of the sewer last week, and ended up languishing all the way down in 18th place. You can see the GfK Chart-Track top ten below:

1. Overwatch – Blizzard / Activision
2. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – Naughty Dog / Sony
3. Doom – id Software / Bethesda
4. Homefront: The Revolution – Dambuster / Deep Silver
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Treyarch / Activision
6. Ratchet & Clank – Insomniac / Sony
7. FIFA 16 – EA Canada / EA
8. The Division – Massive / Ubisoft
9. Total War: Warhammer – Creative Assembly / Sega
10. Grand Theft Auto V – Rockstar / Take 2

Retailers are selling Uncharted 4 two weeks early

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

Some naughty retailers have reportedly broken the street date for Uncharted 4.

Two weeks before it’s meant to go on sale, copies of Uncharted 4 have been cropping up on eBay for as much as £90.

According to Videogamer, some pre-order customers have received shipping notifications from Amazon, while one bloke even picked up a boxed copy from CEX for £55.

It looks like early adopters will have to wait for the multiplayer servers to be switched on and the day-one bonus DLC isn’t available just yet, but the campaign is there in all its glory.

If you’re still waiting for your copy, Sony has released a new trailer that blends story bits with gameplay footage.

It’s only a brief one, but it’s as action-packed as you’d expect.

A recent delay means that Uncharted 4 will now be officially released on May 10, two weeks after it was supposed to debut on April 26 – which is today, funnily enough. This in itself was a delay from March, which was also a delay from late 2015.

Clearly Sony is expecting big things, because the latest delay was to ensure there were enough discs ready for launch.

Quantum Break narrowly beats Dirt Rally to top the all-format gaming chart

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

After weeks of unchallenged chart supremacy, The Division has been knocked off its perch.

In what was an extremely tight battle, Quantum Break narrowly beat Dirt Rally to top the all-format gaming chart.

It’s Microsoft’s first number one since Halo 5 last November, and the company’s biggest new IP of the Xbox One era. Although admittedly that only includes the likes of Sunset Overdrive and Ryse.

As for Dirt Rally, week one sales are up almost 200% on Dirt Showdown, although it did sell less than Dirt 2 and its sequel.

Elsewhere, The Division drops two places to third, above FIFA 16, Far Cry Primal, GTA 5, Black Ops 3 and EA Sports UFC 2.

Rainbow Six Siege and Star Wars: Battlefront round out the top ten.

Here’s the all-format gaming chart in full:

The Division tops the gaming charts for a fourth week

Monday, April 4th, 2016

With three games in the top ten, Ubisoft definitely has reason to celebrate this week.

Despite another 37% drop in sales, The Division remains top of the all-format gaming chart for an impressive fourth week in a row. That’s the most consecutive weeks at the top of the chart for any Ubisoft game.

Its days could be numbered, however, as Dirt Rally, Quantum Break and Dark Souls 3 all prepare to hit the shelves in the coming weeks.

Ubisoft also claims second place with Far Cry Primal, which benefits from a few retail price promotions. FIFA 16 charts at three, above GTA 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and EA Sports UFC 2.

Next up is Star Wars: Battlefront, followed by Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Siege, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.

Here’s the all-format gaming chart in full:
