Crash Bandicoot beats Splatoon 2 to top the sales charts again

Monday, July 24th, 2017

Many thought that Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy had seen its last week on top of the British retail charts when it was beaten by Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age last week, but that’s not the case, as it’s come out on top yet again.

Despite Splatoon 2 launching last Friday, it didn’t manage to stop Crash from spinning back to the top. Still, we doubt the folks at Nintendo are crying their eyes out, as both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are once again amongst the ten best-selling games.

1. Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy / Activision
2. Splatoon 2 / Nintendo (new)

4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
5. Overwatch / Blizzard
6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
7. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age / Square Enix
8. FIFA 17 / EA Sports
9. Fallout 4 / Bethesda Softworks

Crash Bandicoot returns to top the gaming charts

Monday, July 3rd, 2017

Last week saw Crash Bandicoot return to the world of video games, and he managed to capture the number one spot in the UK retail charts while he was at it. As you may know the release saw remastered and somewhat remade versions of the first three games in the series compiled and none of those titles actually made it to number one in the UK. Micro Machines: World Series also got a good start and entered as number two. Completing the old school revival feel of the chart was Elite: Dangerous in seventh, which saw release on PS4. The original Elite actually headed the first ever British software chart (Gallup’s ‘Chartalk’ newsletter) back in 1985.

Elsewhere, Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a force to reckon with and it’s likely only a matter of time until it scores another number one.

All Formats:

1. Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy / Activision Blizzard (new)
2. Micro Machines: World Series / Codemasters (new)
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
4. Forza Horizon 3 / Microsoft
5. FIFA 17 / EA Sports
6. Overwatch / Blizzard
7. Elite Dangerous / Sold Out Sales & Marketing (new on PS4)
8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
9. Dirt 4 / Codemasters
10. Rocket League / 505 Games

Individual Formats (units):

1. Crash Bandicoot: Nsane Trilogy / PS4 (new)
2. Micro Machines: World Series / PS4 (new)
3. Forza Horizon 3 / Xbox One
4. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Switch
6. Elite Dangerous / PS4 (new)
7. Overwatch / Xbox One
8. Grand Theft Auto V / Xbox One
9. Micro Machines: World Series / Xbox One (new)

Grand Theft Auto V tops the UK charts for the 13th time

Monday, June 26th, 2017

Grand Theft Auto V has made it to the top of the UK charts for an impressive 13th time, joining Zumba Fitness as only the third game to hit that milestone. Wii Fit managed 16 weeks at the top, but all tremble before the might of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, a game which enjoyed a massive 18 weeks at the pinnacle of UK retail.

Rockstar’s open-world best-seller actually took top spot despite a week-on-week drop of 10% in terms of sales, which points to a sluggish week for retailers in general (presumably people were too busy enjoying the sunshine to go out and buy video games).

Retailer promotions have instigated some movers and shakers, though, with last week’s chart-topper, Horizon: Zero Dawn, dropping to eighth once it was returned to full price. On the other hand, Ghost Recon: Wildlands has benefitted from a discount and rises ten places into fourth. Dirt 4 also did well last week, taking second spot ahead of FIFA 17.

In Nintendo news, Arms drops down to seventh after a solid launch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is back in the top ten thanks to a resupply of stock around the country, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shifted a few extra copies taking it up ten places to twelth, just outside of the GfK Chart-Track multi-platform top ten, which you can see in full below:

1. Grand Theft Auto V / Take-Two
2. Dirt 4 / Codemasters
3. FIFA 17 / EA
4. Ghost Recon: Wildlands / Ubisoft
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
6. Overwatch / Activision
7. Arms / Nintendo
8. Horizon: Zero Dawn / Sony
9. Forza Horizon 3 / Microsoft
10. Tekken 7 / Bandai Namco

Horizon: Zero Dawn goes top ahead of Arms in UK charts

Monday, June 19th, 2017

Nintendo’s latest new IP, Arms, has debuted in second place in this week’s UK retail charts, finishing behind Horizon: Zero Dawn, which is back on top after aggressive discounting around E3 has seen lots of players pick up Guerrilla’s open-world RPG. There’s not much to tell you beyond that, with the only other debut of note being that of MotoGP 17, which ended up in 17th place.

Here’s the GfK Chart-Track top ten:

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn / Sony
2. Arms / Nintendo
3. Grand Theft Auto V / Take 2
4. Dirt 4 / Codemasters
5. Wipeout Omega Collection / Sony
6. Tekken 7 / Bandai Namco

Wipeout Omega Collection tops the UK retail charts

Monday, June 12th, 2017

Wipeout Omega Collection has done something no other entry in the series has managed to do so far, and that’s debut at the top of the UK retail charts, dislodging Tekken 7 in the process.

Another racing game also debuted near the top of the charts, with Dirt 4 finishing in third. The other new entry to appear in this week’s top ten is The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, which landed in ninth.

Here’s the top ten in full:

Tekken 7 relieves Injustice 2 of first place honours

Monday, June 5th, 2017

Would you believe Tekken 7 just scored the first UK retail number in franchise history since Tekken 3 (1998)? Well, it’s actually true. The most recent release Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (2012) only managed 2nd place behind Sleeping Dogs in its first week and Tekken 6 actually only debuted in 8th spot back in 2010 (stiff competition as it was a late October release). As you’d expect Tekken 7 was a lot more popular on PS4 than on Xbox One during launch week, no doubt partially due to its legacy on PlayStation platforms. In fact, Tekken 7 on Xbox One only managed 12th spot in the individual chart, behind Overwatch, Injustice 2, FIFA 17, GTAV, and Gears of War 4 on the platform.

Overwatch continues to enjoy an immense sales spike thanks to the price promotion in place for its one year anniversary, while Injustice 2 falls to third place following to straight weeks at number one. Some other new releases are found further down the charts with Star Trek: Bridge Crew managing 16th spot in the all formats chart. A decent start for a VR game, and it was joined by other VR titles PlayStation VR Worlds (20), Farpoint (30), perhaps indicating some decent PSVR sales this week. Milestone’s MXGP 3 came in 22nd in its first week. In other news, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fell to 15th in the all formats chart, indicating a relatively slow week in Switch hardware sales, unless Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has taken over as the must-buy first game on the console that is.

All Formats:

1. Tekken 7 / Bandai Namco (new)
2. Overwatch / Blizzard
3. Injustice 2 / Warner Bros.
4. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
5. FIFA 17 / EA Sports
6. Prey / Bethesda
7. Ghost Recon: Wildlands / Ubisoft
8. Horizon: Zero Dawn / Sony
9. Rocket League / 505 Games
10. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo

Individual Formats (units):

1. Tekken 7 / PS4 (new)
2. Overwatch / Xbox One
3. Injustice 2 / PS4
4. Overwatch / PS4
5. Horizon: Zero Dawn / PS4
6. Injustice 2 / Xbox One
7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Switch
8. FIFA 17 / Xbox One
9. Grand Theft Auto V / PS4

Injustice 2 tops UK sales charts for a second week

Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

Injustice 2 has topped the UK sales charts for the second week running. NetherRealm Studios’ fighting game is the first in the genre to claim this spot since the studio’s last game (Mortal Kombat X) and it’s also Warner’s first number one of 2017.

Activision and Blizzard’s Overwatch has climbed 16 positions to the number two spot, followed by GTA V at number three, FIFA 17 at number four, and Bethesda’s Prey at number five. Another game from the Prey developer has also re-entered the charts this week, with Dishonored 2 coming in for an encore at number eight. The PSVR exclusive Farpoint has dropped from number two last week to number 19 this.

There were three noteworthy releases last week. Tequila Work’s Rime debuted at number 27; Nintendo Switch’s Disgaea 5: Complete scraped into the top fourth at 36th, and Capcom’s Ultra Street Fighter II, also for Nintendo Switch, landed in 10th. Here’s the GfK Chart-Track top ten:

1. Injustice 2 (Warner Bros. Interactive)
2. Overwatch (Blizzard)
3. Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
4. FIFA 17 (EA Sports)
5. Prey (Bethesda Softworks)
