Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ reclaims UK number 1 single

Ed Sheeran has reclaimed number one in the UK singles chart this week (December 7).

‘Thinking Out Loud’ returns to the top spot five weeks after first winning the position in November.

The single also beats its own record for the highest amount of online streams, with over 1,672,000 audio streams in seven days.

Union J claim the second spot with ‘You Got It All’, while last week’s number one, Take That’s ‘These Days’, moves down to three.

‘Blank Space’ by Taylor Swift takes number four, while Olly Murs featuring Travie McCoy rounds off this week’s top five selling tracks with ‘Wrapped Up’.

Dance duo Blonde make their debut in the top 40 at number seven with ‘I Loved You’ featuring Melissa Steel, as Ella Henderson’s ‘Yours’ claims the singer her third top 20 single at number 16.

Sheeran makes a second appearance in the charts with ‘Make It Rain’ at number 38. Originally sang by Foy Vance, Sheeran covered the track for Sons of Anarchy.

Mariah Carey’s seasonal classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ re-enters the chart at 17, while The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ is at 18 and Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ returns at 39.

Take That achieve 12th number one single

Take That have scored their first number one single as a three-piece band with ‘These Days’.

The track, which precedes the group’s seventh studio album III, overtook midweek leaders Band Aid 30 to win the top spot by just 2,500 copies. It is Take That’s 12th number one single and their first since 2008’s ‘Greatest Day’.

The group – now comprised of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald – told OfficialCharts.com: “We cannot believe it, we’re really made up and we can’t thank everybody enough.”

The star-studded Band Aid 30 group slip one spot to number two with their updated version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, while Olly Murs and Travie McCoy hold on to the number three spot with ‘Wrapped Up’.

Ed Sheeran also holds firm at number four with ‘Thinking Out Loud’ while Clean Bandit’s ‘Real Love’ rounds out the top five after dropping three places from number two.

The only new entry in the Top 10 this week is Labrinth’s ‘Jealous’, which debuts at number 7 and wins the singer and producer his fifth Top 10 single.

McBusted hit number 12 with their first single as a combined group, ‘Air Guitar’, before their self-titled album is released tomorrow (December 1).

Jennifer Lawrence scores her first ever UK Top 40 single with her rendition of ‘The Hanging Tree’. The song, taken from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, is at number 14.

BRITs Critics’ Choice 2015 nominee James Bay is another new entry at number 18 with ‘Hold Back The River’, while fellow shortlisted act Years & Years debut at number 22 with ‘Desire’.

David Guetta and Emeli Sandé’s ‘What I Did For Love’ debuts at number 24, while Kiesza’s ‘No Enemiesz’ enters the charts at number 30. The final new entry in the chart is Beyonce’s ‘7/11’, which is at number 36.

Band Aid 30’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ claims UK No.1

Band Aid 30 has debuted at number one in the UK singles chart.

‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ is the fastest-selling single of 2014 so far, with 312,000 copies sold in its first week.

The charity track, organised by Bob Geldof, also outsells Band Aid 20’s first-week sales in 2004. The previous version of the song sold 297,000 in the first seven days of release.

Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne debut at number two with ‘Real Love’, while Olly Murs enters the chart at number three with ‘Wrapped Up’, featuring Travie McCoy.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ falls down to number four, and David Guetta rounds off this week’s five top-selling tracks with ‘Dangerous’, which features Sam Martin.

‘Wake Me Up’ by Gareth Malone’s All Star Choir for Children in Need drops from last week’s number one to seven, but is the biggest-selling physical single featured on the chart.

Wretch 32 claims number eight with ‘6 Words’, and Rixton’s ‘Wait On Me’ takes 12.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds debut at 26 with ‘In the Heat of the Moment’, while One Direction’s ‘Night Changes’ claims number 23.

5 Seconds of Summer complete this week’s chart with ‘Good Girls’, which climbs 130 places to number 25.

Gareth Malone’s All Star Choir score No.1 single

Gareth Malone and his All Star Choir have debuted at number one with their official Children in Need track ‘Wake Me Up’.

The Avicii cover, which features celebrities including Jo Brand, Craig Revel Horwood, Linda Robson and Mel Giedroyc, has sold over 120,000 units in the last seven days and is also the most physically purchased single of the week.

Ed Sheeran holds on to the number two spot with ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which has set a record for the most ever audio streams in a week.

One Direction jump six places up the charts to number three with ‘Steal My Girl’ after performing the track on The X Factor last week and on Children in Need on Friday.

Cheryl drops from the number one spot to number four with her latest single ‘I Don’t Care’, while Meghan Trainor falls two places to number five with ‘All About That Bass’.

Australian duo The Veronicas enter the Official Singles Chart for the first time in five years with ‘You Ruin Me’, which debuts at number eight. Sam Smith’s new single ‘Like I Can’ enters the chart at number nine.

Taylor Swift climbs 98 places up to number 11 with ‘Blank Space’ following the release of its official video this week, while Kendrick Lamar wins his first UK Top 40 hit with ‘I’, which enters at number 20.

Idina Menzel’s ‘Let It Go’, the smash hit Frozen single, re-enters the Top 40 at number 28.

BBC Music’s track ‘God Only Knows’, which features a number of celebrities, climbs 131 places to number 39.

Cheryl Cole claims record-breaking fifth UK number one

Cheryl Cole has scored her fifth UK number one single with ‘I Don’t Care’.

The X Factor judge now holds the record for the most UK number ones for a British female artist.

Cheryl previously topped the chart with ‘Fight for This Love’ in 2009, ‘Promise This’ in 2010, ‘Call My Name’ in 2012 and ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ earlier this year.

She overtakes previous record holders Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora, who each have four number one singles.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ moves down to second place, although the song breaks the record for the most audio streams in a single week with 1,638,000 listens.

All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor moves to number three, while John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ jumps from number 26 to four following his appearance on last week’s X Factor.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ rounds off the top five.

Calvin Harris enters the chart at number six with ‘Outside’, as Tom Odell’s cover of ‘Real Love’ debuts at number 21 after featuring on this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert.

The Script’s ‘No Good in Goodbye’ enters at 26, while Nicki Minaj debuts at 35 with ‘Only’, featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown.

Ed Sheeran claims No.1 single

Ed Sheeran has claimed the record for the longest ever climb to a UK number one single.

‘Thinking Out Loud’ first entered the Top 40 chart 19 weeks ago, before being crowned the number one single this week (November 2).

This is Sheeran’s second number one in six months, and the single takes over from Celine Dion’s ‘Think Twice’, which took 13 weeks to reach number one in 1994.

“I’m not used to having number one singles and this is my favourite song on the album, my favourite song I’ve written, so I’m really proud it’s getting this recognition,” Sheeran said.

Last week’s number one, ‘All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor, moves down to number two, while Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ moves from fifth position to third.

‘Bang Bang’ by Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande stays at number four, as Jeremih’s ‘Don’t Tell ‘Em’ rounds off the Top 5 tracks of the week.

Parra for Cuva claims this week’s highest new entry with ‘Wicked Games’, featuring Anna Naklab, at number 6. The song is a reworking of Chris Isaak’s 1990 hit ‘Wicked Game’.

Calvin Harris enters the chart at 23 with ‘Open Wide’ featuring Big Sean, while OneRepublic have two songs in the chart, ‘I Lived’ at 29 and the re-entering ‘Love Runs Out’ at 38.

Idina Menzel’s ‘Let It Go’ also re-enters the chart at number 36, following Lauren Platt’s rendition on last week’s X Factor.

Meghan Trainor holds on to number one UK single

Meghan Trainor has claimed the joint-longest UK number one single of 2014 so far.

‘All About That Bass’, which is spending its fourth week running in the top spot, ties with Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ as the longest number one of the year.

Ed Sheeran takes the second best-selling single of the week with ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which now also has over 1.2 million streams online.

‘Bump and Grind 2014’ by Waze & Odyssey debuts at number three, while Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Bang Bang’ is at number four.

Taylor Swift completes this week’s top five, with ‘Shake It Off’.

Fuse ODG’s ‘Tina’ debuts at number nine, as Sam Smith climbs two places to number ten with ‘I’m Not the Only One’.

Smith’s former number one ‘Stay with Me’ also stays in the chart at 15.

Maroon 5’s ‘Animals’ moves from number 60 to 32, as Taylor Swift’s ‘Welcome to New York’ scrapes into the top forty and debuts at number 39.

Meghan Trainor holds on to UK No.1 single

Meghan Trainor has claimed the UK’s longest-running female number one single of 2014.

‘All About That Bass’ is spending its third week at the top of the singles chart, which also makes the debut single the second longest-running number one of the entire year.

Only Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ has enjoyed a longer run at number one, topping the chart for four consecutive weeks at the beginning of the year.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ climbs two places to number two, while One Direction claim this week’s highest new entry with ‘Steal My Girl’ at number three.

‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran takes number four, as Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj round off the top five with ‘Bang Bang’.

The Vamps’ ‘Oh Cecilia’, featuring Shawn Mendes, enters the chart at number nine, while Eminem and Sia’s ‘Guts Over Fear’ debuts at ten.

‘Bullit’ by Watermat is new at 15, as Wilkinson’s ‘Dirty Love’ featuring Talay Riley enters at 20.

Krishane claims his first top 40 single with ‘Drunk and Incapable’, featuring Melissa Steel, at number 27.

Meghan Trainor has claimed the UK’s number one single for the second week running.

‘All About That Bass’ remains in the top spot, while Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande’s ‘Bang Bang’ stays at number two.

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ also debuts in the chart in third place, as Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ comes fourth and is this week’s most-streamed track.

‘Don’t Tell ‘Em’ by Jeremih is another new entry at number five, while Ella Henderson’s ‘Glow’ places at number seven.

LuvBug enter the chart at number 13 with ‘Resonance’, and Usher’s ‘She Came To Give It To You’ debuts at 16.

BBC Music’s cover of The Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’ completes this week’s new entries, debuting at number 20 after just four days on sale.

Featuring artists such as Elton John and One Direction, all proceeds of the track will go to Children in Need.

Meghan Trainor has claimed the UK’s number one single with ‘All About That Bass’.

The song climbs 32 places from last week, also becoming one of the fastest-selling singles of the year, only beaten by Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne’s ‘Rather Be’.

Trainor said: “It feels unreal! I still don’t believe it! Especially on my first single. It’s incredible!”

Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj fall to number two with ‘Bang Bang’, while ‘Shake It Off’ by Taylor Swift completes the top three.

Sigma featuring Paloma Faith are at number 4 with ‘Changing’, and ‘Blame’ by Calvin Harris and John Newman is at number five.

The Magician enters the chart at seven with ‘Sunlight’ featuring Olly Alexander, while Labrinth is at number 11 with ‘Let It Be’.

Ella Eyre takes number 12 with ‘Comeback’, and Gorgon City’s ‘Unmissable’ makes the top 20 at number 19.

Jessie Ware’s ‘Say You Love Me’ enters the chart at number 22, while Jamie T climbs 12 places with ‘Zombie’ at number 36.
