Bieber’s single ‘Sorry’ is back up to 2 and Adele’s ‘Hello’ is at 3. Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean’ follows at 4, while Grace ft. G-Eazy rounds out the top five with ‘You Don’t Own Me’.

NHS Choir wins the race for Christmas No.1

Friday, December 25th, 2015

After one of the closest races for the Christmas No.1 in years, the NHS Choir have won the festive top spot.

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir’s mash-up single ‘A Bridge Over You’ managed to fend off tough competition from Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Myself’, which has settled for number two.

The track won the race with a total of 127,000 combined copies, compared to Bieber’s 97,000.

“We are absolutely overwhelmed and couldn’t be any happier,” the choir told OfficialCharts.com.

“It’s a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country so well done and thank you everyone for downloading and streaming. A massive cheer for the NHS, thank you!”

Although Bieber missed out on the Christmas No.1 – which would’ve been the first of his career – we don’t think he’ll mind too much.

Earlier in the week when ‘Love Yourself’ was ahead in the race, the 22-year-old told his 71.9 million Twitter followers to buy the NHS Choir’s single instead of his because it was for a good cause.

Also, the Canadian star rounds off the Christmas Day Top 3 with his October single ‘Sorry’.

Adele is just behind at four with ‘Hello’, and Bieber continues his run of having a Top 5 hat-trick with ‘What Do You Mean?’ at number five.

“It’s a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country so well done and thank you everyone for downloading and streaming. A massive cheer for the NHS, thank you!”

Stormy finishes at number nine for the Christmas chart, while X Factor champion Louisa Johnson falls to 12 with ‘Forever Young’.

As for the festive classics, Mariah Carey leads the way with ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ at 11, while The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale Of New York’ is at 13.

Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ is at 18, Shakin’ Stevens is at 26 with ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, and Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ is just behind at 27.

Louisa Johnson scrapes into the Top 10

Friday, December 18th, 2015

The newest X Factor champion Louisa Johnson has recorded the lowest-placing winner’s single debut ever with ‘Forever Young’.

Her cover of Bob Dylan’s classic track enters the UK singles chart at number 9 in a disappointing debut for the 17-year-old.

Meanwhile, it was a much more successful week for Justin Bieber, who has broken a UK chart record previously held by The Beatles.

The singer has become the first artist ever to log four weeks at numbers 1 and 2 in the UK after ‘Love Yourself’ recorded a third successive week at the top, and ‘Sorry’ stayed strong in second spot.

Elsewhere, Adele’s ‘Hello’ is at 3, Grace ft G-Eazy’s ‘You Don’t Own Me’ is at 4, and Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’ round out the top 5.

Notably, Stormzy’s ‘Shut Up’ has also risen from 91 to 8 following a Christmas campaign.

There are also Top 40 appearances from classic Christmas hits including Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ (12), The Pogues’ and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ (15), Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ (24), Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ (34) and Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ (35).

Justin Bieber overtakes Adele to claim No.1

Saturday, November 21st, 2015

Justin Bieber has knocked Adele’s ‘Hello’ from its perch to claim this week’s number one single, and match John Lennon’s chart record in the process.

Unbelievably, every single track from the singer’s new album Purpose is in the Top 100. With eight of those tracks in the Top 40, Bieber’s the only living artist to have achieved that number of simultaneous positions.

As well as ‘Sorry’ nabbing the top spot, Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and ‘What Do You Mean’ are both in the Top 5 at three and five respectively.

The 22-year-old is also the first artist to celebrate three singles in the Top 5 since John Lennon did so after his death 34 years ago, with ‘Imagine’, ‘Happy Xmas’ and ‘(Just Like) Starting Over’.

Elsewhere, Adele’s ‘Hello’ is at two and Fleur East’s ‘Sax’ drops a place to four.

Jess Glynne has earned her eighth Top 10 single with Children in Need track ‘Take Me Home’, while One Direction’s ‘Perfect’ climbs six places to number ten.

Adele scores the biggest No.1 in three years

Saturday, October 31st, 2015

It’s official: Adele has scored the biggest UK number one single in three years.

The singer’s highly-anticipated comeback track ‘Hello’ has scored whopping combined sales of 333,000 in its opening week, becoming her second chart-topping single.

That means Adele now has the biggest single since, erm, James Arthur’s X Factor winner’s single ‘Impossible’ (which managed to snag 490,000 sales back in 2012).

Adele can also boast the second biggest No.1 of the millennium if you exclude X Factor/Pop Idol winners’ singles, major charity campaign records and Christmas number ones (the biggest is Shaggy’s 2001 banger ‘It Wasn’t Me’).

Meanwhile Justin Bieber is forced to settle for number two with his new single ‘Sorry’, which has accrued an impressive 102,000 combined sales in its opening week.

The singer has also beaten his own streaming record, racking up 4.48 million streams – but Adele has already taken that record from him with an impressive 7.32 million streams.

Elsewhere Drake swoops in to claim number three with ‘Hotline Bling’, while Sam Smith’s Bond theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ climbs seven places to four and The Weeknd’s ‘The Hills’ completes the Top 5.

MNEK and Zara Larsson’s ‘Never Forget You’ is at 11, Macklemore hops two places to 14 with ‘Downtown’ and Little Mix’s ‘Love Me Like You’ climbs four places to 28.
