Lukas Graham are No.1 for a sixth week

Friday, March 11th, 2016

Lukas Graham have nabbed number one for another week, giving them the longest consecutive reign at the top of the charts since Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s ‘Uptown Funk’ notched up six weeks.

‘7 Years’ has also given the group the title of the longest-reigning number one from a Danish act in UK chart history.

We know what you’re thinking, but shockingly Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ and Whigfield’s ‘Saturday Night’ only managed four weeks at the top of the charts. Madness.

Saying that, ‘Barbie Girl’ and ‘Saturday Night’ are both million-selling singles – a milestone Lukas Graham still need to meet.

Elsewhere, Mike Posner’s ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ climbs a place to number two while Rihanna and Drake’s ‘Work’ is at three, Zara Larsson’s ‘Lush Life’ claims four and Jonas Blue’s ‘Fast Car’ completes the Top 5.

Zara Larsson makes another appearance at nine with her feature on Tinie Tempah’s new single ‘Girls Like’, which leaps six spots to number nine.

Finally, Fifth Harmony’s new single ‘Work From Home’ climbs six places to number 11.

Meanwhile, Mike Posner’s track ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ leaps eight places to three as Zara Larsson hops two places to four with ‘Lush Life’, and Jonas Blue & Dakota’s ‘Fast Car’ rounds off the Top 5.

Adele’s latest single ‘When We Were Young’ has broken the Top 10 for the first time, taking the number nine spot.

Shawn Mendes finally ends Justin Bieber chart reign

Monday, January 25th, 2016

Sorry Justin, there’s a new Canadian in town. Shawn Mendes has beaten Biebs to number one.

‘Stitches’ has knocked Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ from the top spot by 1,500 sales after a tight tussle throughout the week.

It’s been a slow climb for Shawn, who entered the Top 100 17 weeks ago at 97 before hitting the Top 40 in December.

It’s not all bad for Biebs though, as he’s still the streaming champion, having racked up 3.72 million plays against Mendes’s 3.05 million.

He’s also still occupying number three and four with ‘Sorry’ and ‘What Do You Mean?’.

Meanwhile, 99 Souls reach a new peak, climbing four places to five with their Destiny’s Child and Brandy remix ‘Girl Is Mine’.

Finally, Craig David reaches a new high with his Big Narstie collaboration ‘When the Bassline Drops’ hopping three places to 12.

David Bowie’s farewell album Blackstar is No.1

Friday, January 15th, 2016

The pop icon released the record as a farewell to fans, dying of liver cancer two days after its launch.

Blackstar becomes the fastest-selling album of 2016 as well as Bowie’s tenth number one album, with combined sales of 150,000.

Even before his death, Bowie was well on course for the top spot, wiping out competition from Adele and Elvis Presley.

Elvis’s If I Can Dream is forced to settle for two while Adele’s 25 loses its number one spot for the first time since its release, dropping two places to three.

Elsewhere, Justin Bieber’s Purpose slips a place to four while Bowie makes another appearance at five with his 2014 collection Nothing Has Changed.

It doesn’t stop there, as Bowie was streamed an astonishing 19 million times this week alone.

In fact, the late icon takes up almost one-quarter of the albums chart, with 19 of his albums and 13 of his singles entering the Top 100.

Among them are his Best of 1969/1974 collection, which clinches number 11, his 1971 album Hunky Dory (14) and his legendary record The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (17).

‘Heroes’ is the highest-charting Bowie single at 11, while ‘Life on Mars’ (16), ‘Starman’ (18) and ‘Let’s Dance’ (23) also make appearances.

Bowie’s monopoly of the charts is a reflection of his incredible contribution to music, which spanned five decades.

Justin Bieber takes top three singles chart places

Sunday, January 10th, 2016

Justin Bieber is still our chart king, and has broken yet another record.

The singer stays put at number one with ‘Love Yourself’ while ‘Sorry’ doesn’t budge from two and now ‘What Do You Mean’ has hopped up a place to three. Blimey.

Bieber marks the first ever artist to achieve such a feat in the history of the Official Charts.

Meanwhile fellow Canadian Shawn Mendes leaps from twelve to four with ‘Stitches’ while Adele’s ‘Hello’ completes the Top 5.

99 Souls have also climbed, moving five places to ten with their Brandy & Monica/Destiny’s Child mash-up ‘Girl Is Mine’.

Motörhead’s ‘Ace Of Spades’ has hit a chart best, re-entering at 13 following the death of frontman Lemmy.

Finally, Craig David’s scored his first Top 40 hit in eight years with ‘When The Bassline Drops’.
