James Arthur scores second Official UK Number 1 with Say You Won’t Let Go

Friday, September 30th, 2016

James Arthur makes a triumphant return to the top of the Official Singles Chart as his comeback track Say You Won’t Let Go claims this week’s Number 1.

The song notched up 85,000 combined sales (made up of 41,000 downloads and 4.4 million streams) to knock The Chainsmokers’ Closer (2) from the summit after a four week stint at the top.

James told OfficialCharts.com: “This is incredible… I wasn’t in any way expecting it. I knew it was a good song and I thought some people might like it, but if you’d said to me it would be this well received, I would have thought you were pulling my leg.”

James is the second British act to land at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this year. Back in February, Zayn debuted at the top with his first solo single Pillowtalk.

Say You Won’t Let Go is James’ second Number 1 on the singles chart, following his X Factor winner’s single Impossible in 2012.

Meanwhile, Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd makes an impressive debut with his new single Starboy ft. Daft Punk at Number 3, and Calvin Harris’ latest track My Way lifts a spot to 4.

Outside the Top 10, Ellie Goulding’s track Still Falling For You from the new Bridget Jones film reaches a new peak at 11, and Matoma & Becky Hill’s False Alarm jumps five places to 28.

Finally, two songs climbs into the Top 40 this week; Dua Lipa’s Blow Your Mind (Mwah) at 38 (up eight places) and Craig David & Sigala’s Ain’t Giving Up climbs three spots to Number 39.

The Chainsmokers end Justin Bieber’s singles chart reign

Friday, September 2nd, 2016

Congratulations to The Chainsmokers and Halsey, who have scored their first ever number one single with ‘Closer’.

The song knocked Justin Bieber and Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ off the top spot after finishing the week with 80,000 chart sales. Biebs racked up five weeks at number one before being dethroned.

The American duo told OfficialCharts.com: “Well this is awesome ’cause I (Alex) have a lot of family in the UK that don’t have a clue what I have been doing for the last 10 years so this will make waves during the holidays this year.

“But in all seriousness this is an amazing achievement for us. We are beyond grateful at all the support from our UK fans and radio stations; as a relatively new artist, it means a lot to us and gives us a lot of confidence in the music we have coming up!”

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s ‘Let Me Love You’ stays at 2, while Bieber and Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ drops two spots to 3, despite being the most streamed song of the last week.

Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ is at 4 and Twenty One Pilots’ ‘Heathens’ rounds out the top 5.

Outside the top 5, Tieks and Dan Harkna’s ‘Sunshine’ climbs eight places to 15, while LVNDSCAPE and Bolier’s remix of Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’ is up to 20.

Friday, August 26th, 2016

The Official Singles Chart is once again drenched in Cold Water this week, as Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ hang on to Number 1 for a fifth consecutive week.

It’s been a closely run race all week between Cold Water and DJ Snake’s Let Me Love You, which also features Justin Bieber. Cold Water shifted just over 71,500 combined chart sales, meaning DJ Snake couldn’t charm his way to the top, finishing 1,469 behind to spend a third straight week at Number 2.

Major Lazer’s Cold Water drowns out the competition when it comes to streaming too – it’s notched up 5.03 million plays to be the most listened to track of the week.

The Chainsmokers edge up one place to 3 with Closer, featuring Halsey, and Calum Scott’s cover of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own drops one to 4, while Twenty One Pilots’ Heathens hits a new chart high, rising two to 5.

It’s a new chart peak for Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez’s We Don’t Talk Anymore, which leaps nine places to break into the Top 20 for the first time, at 14. Anne-Marie’s Alarm has also gone Top 20, up five to 19.

Highest brand new entry this week belongs to Ellie Goulding, with Still Falling For You, from the latest Bridget Jones movie, going in at 25, and Craig David & Sigala are also new at 29 with Ain’t Giving Up.

Two tracks break into the Top 40 for the very first time this week: a remix of Is This Love, from Bob Marley feat. Lvndscape and Bolier, is up 3 to 39, while Cheat Codes & Dante Klein rocket 37 slots with Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On) up to 40.
