Anne Hathaway has won the role of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises.

It was reported last week that the forthcoming movie was screen testing a number of actresses for two lead parts. Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel were also apparently in the running.

Director Christopher Nolan said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

Studio Warner Bros further confirmed that Inception actor Tom Hardy will play Bane in Nolan’s next Batman movie.

Johnny Depp has revealed that his planned Lone Ranger movie will be a “really funny” version of the masked Texas Ranger.

Depp, who will reunite with Pirates Of The Caribbean duo Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer on the Disney movie, told Entertainment Weekly that he also wants to pay tribute to Native Americans in his role as sidekick Tonto.

“What we’ve got so far screenplay-wise is really great, really funny,” he said.

The 47-year-old, who has Cherokee ancestry, added: “I always felt Native Americans were badly portrayed in Hollywood films over the decades.

The Social Network has triumphed in the movie categories at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

In the drama fields, the Jesse Eisenberg-starring picture walked away with the evening’s top prize ‘Best Film’, while its director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin were honoured in their respective areas.

Colin Firth won ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of the stammering King George VI in The King’s Speech, and Natalie Portman was awarded ‘Best Actress’ for her role as the ambitious ballerina Nina Sayers in Black Swan.

The Fighter duo Christian Bale and Melissa Leo went home with ‘Best Supporting Actor’ and ‘Actress’ respectively, while Toy Story 3 claimed ‘Best Animated Feature Film’.

Seth Rogen’s superhero comedy The Green Hornet has entered the US box office at number one, beating off competition from Vince Vaughn’s new film The Dilemma.

The Green Hornet toppled last week’s number one True Grit, taking $34 million in its opening weekend to the $17.4 million taken by The Dilemma.

True Grit continues to do well, taking $11.2 million, while critical darling The King’s Speech rises up the top ten to fourth place and takes $9 million.

Rounding out the top five is Darren Aronofsky’s dark thriller Black Swan, which takes $8.1 million.

Next weekend sees the wide release of Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher’s new R-rated comedy No Strings Attached.

J.J. Abrams has opened up about his secret project Super 8.

Abrams spoke to New York Magazine about the film, stating that the next trailer can be expected in the near future.

“Probably March,” Abrams revealed.

The director went on to address the secrecy surrounding the project, which has been produced by Steven Spielberg.

20th Century Fox has announced plans to reshuffle their 2011 film lineup, starting with the upcoming prequel Rise Of The Apes.

The Planet Of The Apes continuation was originally scheduled for release on June 24, but will instead be released on November 23 during Thanksgiving week.

According to Coming Soon, the company has also pushed back the Chris Evans comedy What’s Your Number? from its original date in April, to September 30.

Justin Timberlake’s science fiction film Now has subsequently been moved to October 28.

Michael Bay has described Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen as “a mess”.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the director admitted that the 2009 blockbuster failed to live up to expectations.

“It was kind of a mess, wasn’t it?” Bay said. “Look, the movie had some good things in it and it was entertaining and it did very well, but it also failed in some key ways. I learned from it.”

The 45-year-old, who also helmed the first Transformers movie, blamed the Writers Guild strike for the problems with Revenge Of The Fallen.

Lauren Ambrose has won a recurring role in the next series of Torchwood.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the Six Feet Under actress will appear in seven episodes of the ten-part run as PR guru Jilly Kitzinger.

The character will apparently recruit “the most important client of her career… and maybe of all time” and is described as “sweet-talking” with “a heart of stone”.

Ambrose played Claire Fisher on Six Feet Under from 2001 to 2005 and also starred in short-lived Fox sitcom The Return of Jezebel James. Her film roles include 2009’s Cold Souls and a voice part in Where The Wild Things Are.

Paramount has agreed a deal with IMAX to bring four of its blockbusters to the format this year.

J.J. Abrams’s Super 8 (June 10), Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (July 1), Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol (December 16) and Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn (December 28) will all be released in IMAX theatres at the same time as their cinema debut under the deal.

Both Transformers and Tintin were filmed in 3D and will be remastered for an IMAX 3D debut.

The films are also expected to be released on UK IMAX screens, with Tintin due to arrive two months before the American release.

J.J. Abrams has revealed that he is excited about his new project Alcatraz.

In an interview with Collider, Abrams explained that he is pleased with the script for the Fox pilot.

“I don’t want to give anything away because no-one wants to hear that, but I will say that it’s a beautifully written and surprisingly emotional script – although not surprising when you hear that [Lost and Deadwood scribe] Liz Sarnoff wrote it,” he said. “She’s amazing.”

He continued: “The show is about an incredibly odd and mysterious turn and secret about the prison of Alcatraz, and a modern-day mystery that involves something very odd that happened there 50 years ago.”
