Beauty and the Beast fend off Power Rangers at the US box office

Sunday, March 26th, 2017

It turns out even the might of the Power Rangers isn’t enough to topple Beauty and the Beast from the US box office’s top spot.

Yes, despite raking in $40.5 million in its opening weekend, the Power Rangers debut was no match for Beauty and the Beast‘s takings.

Coming in with over double the cash, Beauty and the Beast‘s second weekend grossed just under $88.5 million this week. Impressive stuff, we know.

Despite making a pretty sizeable sum, Disney’s latest takings aren’t a patch on the live-action reboot’s opening weekend.

Taking in more than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Beauty and the Beast took a whopping $170 million in its first weekend, earning it the biggest domestic opening for a PG-rated movie ever.

Elsewhere in this week’s top ten, Kong: Skull Island still sits in a respectable third place after earning another $14.4 million, while Logan continues to make another $10.1 million and hold strong in the top five.

Sci-fi horror Life, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds, was another new entry in the top five this week, making its debut in fourth place with an opening weekend total of $12.6 million, while huge horror hit Get Out just slipped out of the top five to end the week at number 6.

Check out the March 24-26 weekend box office estimates below:

1 – Beauty and the Beast – $88.3 million
