Anne Hathaway lands Catwoman role

Anne Hathaway is all smiles on the red carpet of the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Anne Hathaway has won the role of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises.

It was reported last week that the forthcoming movie was screen testing a number of actresses for two lead parts. Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel were also apparently in the running.

Director Christopher Nolan said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

Studio Warner Bros further confirmed that Inception actor Tom Hardy will play Bane in Nolan’s next Batman movie.

The helmer added of Hardy: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to arrive in US cinemas on July 20, 2012.

Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns. Halle Berry portrayed the role in the 2004 film Catwoman.
