
The Social Network has triumphed in the movie categories at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
In the drama fields, the Jesse Eisenberg-starring picture walked away with the evening’s top prize ‘Best Film’, while its director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin were honoured in their respective areas.
Colin Firth won ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of the stammering King George VI in The King’s Speech, and Natalie Portman was awarded ‘Best Actress’ for her role as the ambitious ballerina Nina Sayers in Black Swan.
The Fighter duo Christian Bale and Melissa Leo went home with ‘Best Supporting Actor’ and ‘Actress’ respectively, while Toy Story 3 claimed ‘Best Animated Feature Film’.
In the ‘Musical or Comedy’ categories, The Kids Are All Right won ‘Best Film’ and its star Annette Bening picked up ‘Best Actress’ for her role as Nic, one half of a same-sex couple who frets over the arrival of her children’s biological father.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Paul Giamatti (Barney’s Version), Danish drama In A Better World, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their work on The Social Network‘s score.
Robert De Niro was also recognised with the prestigious ‘Cecil B. DeMille Award’ for outstanding achievement in motion pictures.
