The Maze Runner tops US Box Office

The Maze Runner has topped the US Box Office in its opening weekend.

The film, which was directed by Wes Ball and focuses on a boy waking in a labyrinth with no memory of who he is, took $32.5m during the weekend.

Liam Neeson’s A Walk Among the Tombstones is new in at number two, making $13,126,000 in its first weekend.

Tina Fey comedy-drama This Is Where I Leave You is also new at three, taking $11,860,000.

Idris Elba’s No Good Deed is down from number one to number four, while Dolphin Tale 2 is down three to five.

Guardians of the Galaxy is at six with a total gross exceeding $313m over eight weeks.

Comedy Let’s Be Cops is at seven, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is at eight.

Tom Hardy’s The Drop is at nine, while If I Stay rounds out the top 10.

No Good Deed debuts at number one at US box office

No Good Deed has debuted at number one in the US box office.

The thriller, starring Idris Elba as an escaped convict who terrorises a woman home alone with her two children, took $24.5m in its first weekend in theatres.

Dolphin Tale 2 takes the second spot, making $16.5m in it’s first week, knocking Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy into third place with weekend earnings of $8m.

Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles drops two places to number four, while Let’s Be Cops also falls two spots to five.

The Drop, starring Tom Hardy and the late James Gandolfini, debuts at number seven with a gross of $4.2m.

If I Stay falls three places to seven, while The November Man moves from number five down to eight with takings of $2.7m.

Falling two places is The Giver, which lands at number nine with $2.6m, and The Hundred-Foot Journey completes the top 10 with $2.4m.

Guardians of the Galaxy remains number one at US box office

Guardians of the Galaxy has topped the US box office for the third week running.

The Marvel adventure, which is set in space, took $10m in earnings during its sixth weekend, bringing the total gross to just under $300m.

Staying in the second spot is Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which took $6.4m in its fifth weekend.

Chloë Grace Moretz’s If I Stay is another non-mover and remains at number three, taking more than $5m.

Comedy Let’s Be Cops moves up one place to the fourth spot, while The November Man moves up to number five.

As Above, So Below drops two places to four, earning $3.7m, and When the Game Stands Tall stays at number seven.

The Giver, starring Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift, stays at eight, while The Hundred-Foot Journey remains at nine.

Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy rounds off the top 10, after moving up one place from 11 last week.

Guardians of the Galaxy tops US box office for third week

Guardians of the Galaxy has retained the number one position at the US box office for the second week in a row.

With weekend earnings of $16,313,000, the Marvel film’s total gross now stands at just over $274m, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at second place earned $11,750,000, bringing its total to $162m.

Chloë Grace Moretz’s If I Stay remains at number three in its second week, taking more than $9m, while John Erick Dowdle’s Parisian horror As Above, So Below is new at number four with $8m.

Comedy Let’s Be Cops is down one place to five, while Pierce Brosnan spy thriller The November Man is new in sixth place.

When the Game Stands Tall is down two places to seven, while The Giver has dropped one spot to eight.

The Hundred-Foot Journey and The Expendables 3 round out the top ten, at nine and ten respectfully.

Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For continues its dismal run, dropping out of the top 10 into 14th place in its second week, with a total gross of $10,766,000.

Guardians of the Galaxy reclaims top spot at US box office

Guardians of the Galaxy has reclaimed the number one position at the US box office.

Marvel’s space adventure was originally knocked off the top spot by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles two weeks ago, but returns to number one in its fourth week in theatres.

With weekend earnings of $17m, the James Gunn directed film’s total gross now stands at just over $251m, while Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ $16m brings its total to $145m.

Chloë Grace Moretz’s If I Stay debuts at number three, taking a little over $16m, while cop comedy Let’s Be Cops falls down one place to fourth with $11m.

When the Game Stands Tall rounds off the top five in its debut week, followed by The Giver in sixth place with a weekend gross of $6.7m.

The Expendables 3 drops down three places in its second week, landing at number seven with weekend earnings of $6m.

The long-awaited Sin City: A Dame to Kill For debuts at eight with $6m, while Helen Mirren’s The Hundred-Foot Journey falls into ninth place.

Into The Storm completes the top ten grossing films with weekend earnings of nearly $4m, bringing its total to $38m.

Ninja Turtles crush The Expendables at US Box Office

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has retained its number one position on the US box office.

The reboot, directed by Jonathan Liebesman, has now taken just over $117m since opening last weekend.

However, it was a disappointing debut for The Expendables 3, which only managed to land at number four with takings of $16.2m.

Marvel’s superhero adventure Guardians of the Galaxy stays at number two, taking $24.7m over the weekend.

New entries land at third and fifth place, with Let’s Be Cops amassing $17.7m at number three and The Giver taking $12.76 at number five.

Elsewhere, Richard Armitage’s Into the Storm fell three places to six, taking $7.7m in its second weekend, with last week’s number four The Hundred-Foot Journey also down.

Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy slipped down three places to number eight in its fourth week.

Step Up All In and Boyhood complete the top ten at numbers nine and ten respectively.

Following the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paramount has already greenlit a sequel for the movie, with Michael Bay on board as producer once again.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles storms US box office

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has debuted at number one in the US box office.

The 2014 reboot, directed by Jonathan Liebesman took $65m in its first weekend, knocking Guardians of the Galaxy off the top spot.

Marvel’s space-set superhero adventure was pushed down to second place in its second weekend, taking just over $41.5m and bringing its total gross to nearly $176m.

Two new entries take third and fourth place, with Into The Storm taking $18m at number three and The Hundred-Foot Journey earning $11.1m at number four.

Elsewhere, Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy fell three places down to five taking $9.3m in its third weekend, while Step Up All In entered the box office at number 6 with $6.6m.

Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules also took a tumble down to seventh place, as well as Get On Up, which dropped to eight.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Planes: Fire and Rescue complete the top ten at number nine and ten respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy soars to number one at US box office

Guardians of the Galaxy has soared to the number one spot at the US box office.

The Marvel blockbuster has broken the record for the biggest August opening weekend with takings of $94m, beating the previous record of $69.3m set by The Bourne Ultimatum.

It is also the third biggest opening weekend of 2014, behind Transformers: Age of Extinction‘s $100m and Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s $95m.

Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy is in second place with $18.3m, followed by new entry Get On Up in third with $14m.

Former number one Dawn of the Planet Apes completes this week’s top five with ticket sales of $8.7m.

Disney sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue is down one place to six with $6.4m, ahead of horror film The Purge: Anarchy, which drops to seven with $5.6m.

Cameron Diaz comedy Sex Tape features at number eight, while And So It Goes and A Most Wanted Man round out the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively.

Apes keep swinging on $36m at US box office

Fox’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes held off the challenge of three potential threats and climbed to $139m in its second weekend as the top 12 North American releases slipped 25% against 2013.

Apes cost roughly $170m to make and is about to break even for the studio after two weekends factoring in the $103m international running total.

Universal released its horror sequel The Purge: Anarchy in second place on $28.4m from 2,805 theatres.

Disney’s Planes spin-off Planes: Fire & Rescue landed at number three on $18m, falling 19% against the original $22.2m debut of Planes in August 2013.

Sony released the Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel comedy Sex Tape in fourth place on an unremarkable $15m from 3,062 sites.

Paramount’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction continued to plod towards $250m and whatever happens will finish its North American run as the lowest-scoring of the sci-fi franchise. It fell three places to number five on $10m for $227.2m after four sessions.

A coupe of old pros populate the lower ranks of the top 10 after weeks of distinguished service: Sony’s 22 Jump Street at number seven has grossed $180.5m after six sessions and Maleficent ranks ninth on $228.4m after eight.
