Suicide Squad has won the US box office AGAIN, making it three weeks at number one.

Jared Leto’s DC movie might not be a hit with the critics, but it’s a smash with US theatre goers, taking another $20m this week to take its total takings to $262m.

Seth Rogen’s animated comedy Sausage Party just missed out on the top spot, and stays at 2 after taking $15m in its second week.

Before you start thinking we could have just republished last week’s article though, there’s plenty of change in this week’s top ten, with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller’s new comedy-drama War Dogs arriving at 3, and Kubo and the Two Strings landing at 4 with $12.6m.

The remake of the epic drama Ben-Hur is also new this week at 5, while Disney’s latest reboot Pete’s Dragon is down to six.

Mila Kunis’ comedy Bad Moms moves down to 7, and Jason Bourne is close on its heels with $7.9m at 8.

Finally, The Secret Life of Pets drops slightly to 9 and Meryl Streep’s biopic Florence Foster Jenkins rounds out the top ten with $4.3m.

It’s not gone down well with critics, but Suicide Squad is proving to be a HUGE hit at the US box office, after topping tickets for the second week in a row.

The David Ayer-directed movie took $43m in its second week, taking its total earnings to $222m.

The blockbuster, starring Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith, saw off competition from Seth Rogen’s animated comedy Sausage Party, which is new at two with $33m.

Pete’s Dragon – Disney’s latest live-action movie which looks adorable – is also new at three, just above Jason Bourne at four with $14m.

There’s little change in the rest of the top ten, with Mila Kunis’s Bad Moms at five with $11m and animation The Secret Life of Pets at six with $8m.

Star Trek Beyond lives long and prospers at number seven, down two on last week, and Meryl Streep’s biopic Florence Foster Jenkins arrives at eight with $6m.

Finally, Kevin Spacey’s family comedy Nine Lives and horror movie Lights Out round out the top ten.

Forget the reviews, Suicide Squad has won the US box office after an absolutely HUGE opening weekend.

The reaction to the DC movie has been mixed to say the least, but no-one can argue with a first week haul of $135m.

Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith all star in the movie, which sees all bad guys of Gotham come together to wreak havoc and save the world.

The film also recorded a strong international performance this weekend too, taking £277m worldwide.

The impressive haul includes $11.3m in Russia, $10.6m in Australia, $13.9m (£10.6m) in the UK, and… $0 in China.

Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne is knocked down to number two with $22m, which takes the movie’s total earnings to $103m.

There’s little change elsewhere in this week’s Top 5, with Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis’ comedy Bad Moms staying at 3, The Secret Life of Pets at 4 and Star Trek Beyond is at 5.

Kevin Spacey’s new family comedy Nine Lives lands at 6, while disturbing horror Lights Out is down one to seventh place with $6m.

Emma Roberts’ thriller Nerve stays at 8 and Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot is down two to 9 with $4.8m, which takes the Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones movie’s total earnings to $116m.

Finally, family animation Ice Age: Collision rounds out the top ten with $4.3m.

Matt Damon officially has another huge hit movie to his name after Jason Bourne shot to the top of the US box office this week.

The fifth movie in the Bourne franchise took an impressive $60m in its first week, knocking Star Trek Beyond off the top spot.

Jason Bourne follows the hugely successful ’00s action trilogy of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, plus Jeremy Renner’s The Bourne Legacy, which was… slightly less successful.

Star Trek Beyond lives long and prospers in second place, while Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell’s new comedy Bad Moms is new at 3 with $23m.

The Secret Life of Pets is down two places to 4, and Ice Age: Collision Course, the fifth movie in the series, is down to 6.

Star Trek Beyond landed atop the weekend US box office, soaring to $59.6m in North American ticket sales and knocking Universal’s The Secret Life of Pets from the No1 spot, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

Pets was the second-most-popular film at theaters, adding $29.3m to its stellar $260m earnings to date.

Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond is the third film since JJ Abrams rebooted the franchise in 2009. Despite the latest release opening $20m behind 2009’s Star Trek, experts say it’s still promising.

“This is a solid enough debut to tell them there’s still enough interest in Star Trek to keep this franchise alive,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for the box office tracker comScore.

Dergarabedian did not think the film was hurt by the unexpected loss of one of its stars. The actor Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov, was killed in a freak car accident last month.

“The tragic passing of Anton Yelchin made it bittersweet for fans,” Dergarabedian said.

The Secret Life of Pets and Ghostbusters bested the weekend’s other new releases. Warner Bros’ low-budget horror Lights Out tied with Ghostbusters for third place with $21.6m, while Fox’s animated Ice Age: Collision Course debuted with $21m.

Fox Searchlight’s Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie opened outside the top 10 with $1.8m.
