Suicide Squad sees off Seth Rogen’s Sausage Party at the US box office

It’s not gone down well with critics, but Suicide Squad is proving to be a HUGE hit at the US box office, after topping tickets for the second week in a row.

The David Ayer-directed movie took $43m in its second week, taking its total earnings to $222m.

The blockbuster, starring Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith, saw off competition from Seth Rogen’s animated comedy Sausage Party, which is new at two with $33m.

Pete’s Dragon – Disney’s latest live-action movie which looks adorable – is also new at three, just above Jason Bourne at four with $14m.

There’s little change in the rest of the top ten, with Mila Kunis’s Bad Moms at five with $11m and animation The Secret Life of Pets at six with $8m.

Star Trek Beyond lives long and prospers at number seven, down two on last week, and Meryl Streep’s biopic Florence Foster Jenkins arrives at eight with $6m.

Finally, Kevin Spacey’s family comedy Nine Lives and horror movie Lights Out round out the top ten.
