‘Game Of Thrones’ is ‘beyond Rated R’

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Jon Snow and Bran Stark from Game of Thrones

Game Of Thrones producer David Benioff has hinted that the show will be controversial.

According to Access Hollywood, Benioff explained that HBO has allowed the series to include scenes of sex and violence.

“One of the things that had to be done with [my previous project] Troy is so many things had to be cut because we were trying to do a two-and-a-half hour movie and tell this massive, massive story,” he said.

“Here, because we have ten hours to tell the story, we’re able to include all the major characters… and we’re able to do it the way [author] George [R. R. Martin] does it in the books in terms of the darkness of it and the violence of it and the sexuality of it, which a major studio would never let you do, even if you’re lucky enough to get an R rating. This is beyond R.”

Cameron: ‘Battleship movie degrades cinema’

Sunday, January 9th, 2011
James Cameron (Avatar)

James Cameron has blasted the upcoming Battleship movie, claiming that it “degrades cinema”.

The Avatar director expressed disgust at the board game adaptation, which sees Liam Neeson and Rihanna clash with aliens on the high seas, arguing that “desperate” franchises and sequels are damaging the film industry.

He lamented to Spiegel Online: “We have a story crisis… Now they want to make the ‘Battleship’ game into a film. This is pure desperation.

“Everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is that a film is a brand before it hit theaters. If a brand has been around, Harry Potter for example, or Spider-Man, you are light years ahead. And there lies the problem. Because unfortunately these franchises are becoming more ridiculous. Battleship. This degrades the cinema.”

Cameron previously described modern B-movie Piranha 3D as being the “bottom of the barrel”.

Christopher Nolan with his award at Showest Awards Gala at the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas

Christopher Nolan has refused to completely rule out revisiting Inception for a sequel.

Nolan, who wrote and directed last summer’s Leonardo DiCaprio thriller, said that he has “always liked the potential of the world” he created.

“It’s an infinite, or perhaps I should say an infinitesimal world that fascinates me,” Nolan told Deadline. “At the moment, we’re exploring a video game, which is something I’ve been very interested in doing for a number of years. This lends itself nicely to that.”

The filmmaker explained that, although Inception was designed as a one-off film, he doesn’t know where his “creative interests” will take him in the future.
