The top 10 most downloaded movies on BitTorrent are in again. ‘The Mummy’ tops the chart this week, followed by ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. ‘Alien Covenant’ completes the top three.
This week we have two newcomers in our chart.

The latest movie adaptation of Stephen King’s beloved series The Dark Tower didn’t exactly have a flying start with critics when it opened in cinemas this week.
The Dark Tower has been getting mixed reviews, to say the least – one critic called it a “uniquely flavourless slog”.
Thankfully for everyone involved in the adaptation, though, the critical reaction hasn’t seemed to dampen its box office success as it won the top spot this week.
The film, which stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, made $19.5 million in its debut weekend. While this does mean The Dark Tower is top of the box office, it’s not an earth-shattering success – the film was made for $60 million and was probably seeking a stronger debut.
It’s been a relatively slow weekend all round, though. Dunkirk, the Christopher Nolan war epic which has recently been tipped to be an Oscar contender, dropped just one place after claiming the top spot for the past two weeks. Dunkirk made a solid $17.6 million this week, taking its total well above a jaw-dropping $130 million.
Just about everyone was surprised when The Emoji Movie gave Dunkirk a run for its money in the box office last week, and the kids’ animated film is still on Dunkirk’s coat-tails in third place. The film follows the adventures of the ‘Meh’ emoji, and made $12.35 million in its second week.
Girls Trip, this summer’s big buddy-comedy, is keeping its place at the box office too. The film had a budget of just $19 million – but after making another $11,418,700 in its third week, Universal has made over $80 million on it.
New release Kidnap rounded out the top five this week. Halle Berry stars as a girl-power equivalent of Liam Neeson in Taken, who has to rescue her son when he’s – you guessed it – kidnapped. The film made $10,210,000, finally bumping Spider-Man: Homecoming out of the top five after five weeks at the top.

Dunkirk has held onto the top of the US box office for the second week running after smashing expectations in its opening weekend – but it faced slightly more competition that we probably expected it too this week.
Yep, it seems The Emoji Movie – the animated film that follows the ‘Meh’ emoji that’s been panned by critics – gave Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic a run for its money as the family film finished just $3 million behind Dunkirk this weekend, making $25,650,000 and placing it firmly at the second spot at the box office.
Dunkirk managed to hold onto the top spot by making another $28,130,000 in its second week of release, making for a total US box office gross of $103 million.
The film, which stars newcomers Fionn Whitehead and Tom Glynn-Carney, as well as Nolan favourites Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy and little-known pop star Harry Styles, focuses on the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk during World War II and has already been tipped as an Oscar contender.
Summer buddy-comedy Girls Trip, which stars Queen Latifah and Jada-Pinkett Smith in a Bridesmaids meets The Hangover-style movie, took the third spot, making $20,085,540 in its second weekend – not bad when you consider that the film’s budget was just $19 million.
Elsewhere, new arrival Atomic Blonde, the action movie starring Charlize Theron, earned $18,554,000 in its debut weekend, putting it at number four at this week’s box office round up, while Spider-Man: Homecoming clung onto a spot in the top five, making another $13.5 million after four weeks of release.
Still, it’s all better news than what’s facing the verifiable box office flop Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets this week, which follows up a poor opening with a 60% drop in takings in its second week of release.
The film, which stars Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan, took in another $6,800,000 for a total US box office taking of $30,626,147 so far, and managed to drop three places down to the eighth spot as it did so too.

Dunkirk has soared to the top of the US box office in its opening weekend, defying estimates to make a massive $50.5 million and come out $20 million ahead of its nearest competition..
According to The Wrap, the film was projected to make between $30-40 million in its opening weekend, and it even managed to surpass the first weekend takings of Nolan’s last film, the Oscar-winning Interstellar, which took $49.5 million.
The takings put it $20 million ahead of its closest competition, fellow new release Girls Trip. The buddy-comedy stars Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith and earned $30,370,720.
But even that’s a much better performance than the much-hyped Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets, which stars Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan and finished in the fifth spot in its opening weekend.
Yes, it seems not even Rihanna’s presence in the film could help drive audiences to see Valerian and the sci-fi action film made just $17,020,000, making it a relative flop for director Luc Besson against its massive budget of over $200 million.
Elsewhere in the US box office this week, Spider-Man: Homecoming is continuing to enjoy its status as the superhero with the most successful introduction into the MCU by taking another $22,010,000 in its third week of release, finishing up in the third spot.
Last week’s number one, War for the Planet of the Apes, took another $20.4 million and ended the week in fourth place.

The latest in the Planet of the Apes franchise has brought in an estimated $56.5 million in its first weekend of release, while also playing well with fans. The newest Planet of the Apes movie follows Caesar (played once again by Lord of the Rings‘ Andy Serkis) as he embarks on a quest to avenge his fellow apes after their forces are decimated in a deadly battle against an army of humans lead by Woody Harrelson’s ruthless Colonel.
In second place this week is Spider-Man: Homecoming with estimated earning of $45.2 million, bringing the movie’s domestic total to $208.3 million after only 10 days in theaters.
At No. 3 is Illumination and Universal’s Despicable Me 3, with the animated feature film bringing in an estimated $18.9 million this week.
In fourth place is Edgar Wright’s critically acclaimed Baby Driver, earning an estimated $8.75 million.
Cracking the top 5 is none other than the Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan-starring The Big Sick with an estimated $7.6 million.
Elsewhere in the top 10, DC’s Wonder Woman saw a small drop in its earnings (29.9 percent) as it earned an estimated $6.9 million, bringing its domestic total to $380.7 million, cementing its status as, domestically, the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe movie.
In seventh place is newcomer Wish Upon with an estimated $5.6 million.

Proving that despite the franchise fatigue derailing the last attempt to bring him back, Spider-Man can still deliver when handled properly, Spider-Man: Homecoming has launched with a a healthy $117 million opening in the States alone, according to studio estimates.
Knowing to stay well clear of the Marvel juggernaut (even if the studio only had a smaller part to play here), there were no competing wide releases. Which meant that most of the rest of the top 10 just shunted down one spot. Despicable Me 3 moved to second with $33.9 million (the franchise has made more than $3 billion collectively at this point), while Baby Driver was pushed to third on $12.7 million. Wonder Woman stayed in place at fourth, adding $10.1 million for a $368.7 million US total so far. And in fifth place was Transformers: The Last Knight, which earned $6.3 million, but is still seemingly relying on foreign business to keep it motoring along.
Sixth place went to Cars 3, which made $5.6 million, while comedy The House continued to disappoint, falling one place to seventh and $4.8 million. Hit indie comedy The Big Sick added screens and made the leap from 12th place to eighth, taking in $3.6 million and bringing its Stateside total to $6.9 million.
Ninth was shark thriller 47 Meters Down, which mustered $2.84 million, just ahead of The Beguiled, which earned $2 million in 10th place.
