The Force Awakens sees off DiCaprio’s The Revenant

There are no prizes for guessing the number one film in the US this weekend, after Star Wars: The Force Awakens claimed the box office for the fourth successive week.

The sci-fi epic claimed $41.6m to see off competition from Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Revenant, which is at number two with $38m.

Meanwhile, Daddy’s Home is at 3 with $15m, The Forest is new at 4 with $13m and Sisters rounds out the top five with $7m.

Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is at 6 with $6.35m and The Big Short is at 7 with $6.3m.

Finally, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip drops to 8 with $5.5m, Joy is at 9 with $4.5m and Concussion is at 10 with $3m.

The Force Awakens remains top of US box-office

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has started 2016 on top of the US box office, continuing its reign in the number one spot.

The film, which is the seventh instalment in the sci-fi saga, ​took $88.3m over the weekend of January 1-3.

Daddy’s Home had to settle for second place for the second consecutive week, taking $29m, while The Hateful Eight soared into third place with takings of $16.2m.

Sisters maintained its number 4 position with $12.5m while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip rounded out the top 5 with $11.8m.

Joy is in at 6 after earning $10.4m and The Big Short drops a spot into number 7 with $9m.

Concussion is at number 8 after taking $8m, Point Break finishes the weekend at number 9 with $6.8m and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 completes the top ten with $4.6m in takings.

Star Wars remains top at US box-office

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken $154m in its second week to retain the US box office.

The film saw off competition from new entries Daddy’s Home and Joy, which are in second and third place with $38.8m and $17.5m respectively.

Meanwhile, Sisters is at 4 with $13.9m and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is at 5 with $12.7m.

Concussion is new in at 6 with $11m, The Big Short is up twelve places to 7 with $10.5m and Point Break is new at 8 with $10.2m.

Finally, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is at 9 with $5.3m and Creed rounds out the top 10 with $4.6m.

The Force Awakens smashes US box office record

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has, unsurprisingly, debuted at number 1 in the US box office with a colossal $238m.

The opening weekend total is the highest ever achieved in the US, beating the record set by 2015’s Jurassic World ​($208m).

The film was far, far ahead of the competition, with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip way off in the number 2 spot with $14.4m.

Meanwhile, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s comedy Sisters is new at 3 with $13.4m, while last week’s number 1 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is down to 4 with $5.6m.

Creed is at 5 with $5m, The Good Dinosaur is at 6 with $4.3m and Krampus is at 7 with $3.7m.

In the Heart of the Sea is at 8 with $3.4m and Dilwale is at 9 with $1.8m.

Finally, Bajiro Mastani rounds out the top ten with $1.6m.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has claimed the number one spot in the US Box Office for the fourth consecutive week.

A quiet week saw the film take $11.3m to see off competition from new entry In the Heart of the Sea, which took an uninspiring $11m in its debut weekend.

Meanwhile, The Good Dinosaur is at 3 with $10.5m, while Creed is at 4 with $10.1m.

Krampus is at 5 with $8m, Spectre is at 6 with $4m and The Night Before is at 7 with $3.9m.

The Peanuts Movie is at 8 with $2.6m, Spotlight is at 9 with $2.5m and Brooklyn rounds out the top ten with $1.9m.

Hunger Games tops US box office for a third week

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has stayed at the top of the US box office for a third successive week with $18.6m.

The film saw off competition from Krampus, which lands at 2 with $16m.

A relatively quiet week also saw Creed stay at 3 with $15.54m, narrowly beating The Good Dinosaur ​which took $15.51.

Meanwhile, Daniel Craig’s Spectre is at 5 with $5.4m, The Night Before stays at 6 with $4.9m and The Peanuts Movie is at 7 with $3.5m.

Spotlight is at 8 with $2.9m, Brooklyn is at 9 with $2.4m and The Secret In Their Eyes rounds out the top ten with $1.9m.

Mockingjay – Part 2 stays top of US box-office

Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has retained the top spot at the US box office for a second week, taking $51.6m in its second week.

The Good Dinosaur debuted at number two, taking $39.2m and Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky spinoff Creed entered the chart at number three taking 30.1m.

James Bond’s Spectre fell to number four with $12.8m in its fourth week, taking the box office total to $176m and The Peanuts Movie dropped to five with $9.7m.

The Night Before brought in $8.2m to take the sixth spot, The Secret in Their Eyes dropped two positions to seven, taking $4.5m and Spotlight retained the eighth spot with $4.4m.

Brooklyn climbed up three places to number nine, taking $3.8m and The Martian rounded off the top 10 with $3.3m.
