The crime-fighting sequel pushes X-Men: Apocalypse into second place


Cowabunga dude! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has skateboarded straight to the top of the US box office in its opening week, earning $35,250,000.

The film is the sequel to the 2014 live action film about the heroic turtles and stars Megan Fox, Stephen Amell and Will Arnett.

The action comedy pushed X-Men: Apocalypse, which was last week's frontrunner, into second place.

The latest addition to the Marvel franchise, X-Men took $22,325,000 this week.

Me Before You is another new entry at number three. The romance, which stars The Hunger Games' Sam Claflin and Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke, earned $18,270,00.

Last week's second place film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, has slipped into fourth place after taking $10,691,000, while the top five is completed by The Angry Birds Movie, which falls from third place. The animation took $9,775,000 this week.

Captain America: Civil War is at number six this week, having fallen two places from number four, with the Marvel blockbuster taking $7,591,000.

Comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising has fallen two spots into number seven, raking in $4,700,000, while Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is a new entry at number eight. The Andy Samberg-starring musical drama has taken $4,630,000.

The Jungle Book drops two places into number nine after earning $4,247,000 this week, while the top ten is completed by last week's number seven The Nice Guys, which has taken $3,520,000.
