Doctor Who is coming to the big screen for a 3D adventure… but only in the US.
Fathom Events will screen an exclusive series nine prequel titled 'The Doctor's Meditation', following a 3D version of last year's two-part finale 'Dark Water' and 'Death in Heaven'.
Tickets for the event will go on sale on Friday (July 31), which is scheduled for September 15 and September 16 at cinemas across the US.
The screening also includes an interview with stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman moderated by Star Trek's Wil Wheaton.
BBC Worldwide's Soumya Sriraman announced the special screening: "After the enormous success of the 50th anniversary and season eight premiere – both number one alternative one-night cinema events, two years in a row – we decided to bring the Doctor back to the big screen in 3D so Whovians across the country can have a full immersive experience of Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.
"The season eight finale, along with an exclusive interview with Peter and Jenna is the perfect way to get fans ready for the upcoming premiere of the new season on BBC America."
Similar 3D screenings are not expected to be held in the UK. Doctor Who will kick off its ninth series on September 19 on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.
This series will include guest appearances from Game of Thrones stars Paul Kaye and Maisie Williams, the return of UNIT stalwarts Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver, and the re-appearance of Michelle Gomez as Missy.
