‘The Croods’ beats ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’

The Croods has opened in first place at the UK box office.

The latest animated movie from DreamWorks, featuring the voices of Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, opened to £5.3 million to beat Bryan Singer’s new release Jack the Giant Slayer to first place.

Jack‘s opening haul of £1.5 million is less than the £1.9 million earned by John Carter this time last year.

Oz the Great and Powerful, last week’s number one movie, slipped down to third place. New comedy Identity Thief debuts at number four, while Side Effects rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Cage’s thriller Stolen, which went direct-to-video in the US, opened at number seven with £202,373.
