‘Wreck-It Ralph’ topples ‘Les Misérables’

Wreck-It Ralph has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

Disney’s latest 3D animated movie, featuring the voices of John C Reilly and Sarah Silverman, earned £4.5 million to end Les Misérables‘ four-week stint at the top of the UK box office.

Wreck-It Ralph‘s opening haul is the biggest three-day debut for an animated movie since Ice Age 4 last July.

Les Mis falls down a place to number two ahead of British romantic comedy I Give It A Year, which posted an impressive £1.4 million opening weekend tally. Django Unchained is at number four, while Flight rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, Warm Bodies failed to match its US box office success in the UK, landing at number six with £895,509. Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren’s Hitchcock is the only other new release to dent the top ten, entering at number eight.
