Mockingjay – Part 1 wins US box office

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has topped the US box office with $123m.

It becomes the franchise’s least successful film to date, with 2012’s The Hunger Games taking $155m and 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire claiming $161.1m in their opening weekends.

Big Hero 6 remains at two with $20m and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar stays at three with $15.1m.

Last week’s number one Dumb and Dumber To is down to four, while Gone Girl rounds out the top five.

Beyond the Lights is at six with $2.63m, while Bill Murray’s St. Vincent and Fury follow in seventh and eighth place respectively.

Birdman is up to nine with $1.85, while Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler occupies the number 10 spot.
